Lolloping across the field in a rabbit-like manner, but honestly the size of a small dog?

I don't think I've ever seen one before!

Probably! That's awesome Smile

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 31/03/2019 13:54

yes, they are surprisingly big on the move...the legs make them seem bigger I think

TheQueef · 31/03/2019 13:55

Lucky you!

DramaAlpaca · 31/03/2019 13:55

They are amazing aren't they? I saw my first one a few years ago lolloping as you said (perfect word) around in a field. I was transfixed watching it.

Another time I saw one sitting in the middle of a country lane as I was driving along. I just stopped the car & watched until it decided to go on its way. Lovely creatures.

qwertyskirty · 31/03/2019 13:56

First time I saw one I thought it was a kangaroo!! 😂

Palominoo · 31/03/2019 13:56

You saw it today but it will be gone tomorrow.

I know, Palominoo! It obviously checked the calendar!

Big sticky up ears? :D

They are lovely. I've seen a couple - once when I was on my pony and he came really close to us.

Still something really special about seeing rare wildlife.

endofthelinefinally · 31/03/2019 14:05

Hares are beautiful creatures.
I haven't seen any since I was a child.
You are lucky OP.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 31/03/2019 14:09

We get quite a few where I live. I love them.

MaMisled · 31/03/2019 14:11

I'm fortunate enough to see them pretty often but I'm still amazed by the size of some of them! Four weeks ago DH and I were out with a breakfast picnic and sat eating porridge from a food flask whilst watching one clean himself not too far away! Beautiful!

DGRossetti · 31/03/2019 14:20

A few years ago, DW and I were at a mobility shop in a deserted industrial estate (it was Saturday) in Evesham.

As we were driving out of the estate, we both saw lolloping along the pavement on the other side of the road, a hare. (The exact phrase was "Is that a fucking hare ?!" ). It seemed totally undistressed (not bothered with the car moving around about 10m away).

It's the only time I've ever seen a hare in the "wild".

Meanwhile, there are supposed to be hares in 2 parks less than a mile away, but I've never seen them ....

Gingersstuff · 31/03/2019 14:22

East coast of Scotland, we see them regularly round here. They’re beautiful Smile

iklboo · 31/03/2019 14:23

Ooh hares are a good omen. Abundance, good fortune and prosperity.

FurrySlipperBoots · 31/03/2019 14:26

You saw it today but it will be gone tomorrow.

Hares are gorgeous! Only ever seen 1 here in Cornwall!

picklemepopcorn · 31/03/2019 14:35

I saw one in Scotland last year. They are so unlike rabbits- really unmistakable in real life. I was surprised, I hadn't realised.

ShinyRuby · 31/03/2019 14:46

They're fabulous animals & yes, surprisingly big. I last saw one just lolloping along the side of a road in North Yorks. Their eyes are amazing if you ever get close enough to have a look.

TressiliansStone · 31/03/2019 14:47

Didn't get a clear view of the ears, alas. It was heading towards the tractor, bold as brass!Grin

Two days ago I saw two of them proper playing in the middle of a field in the sunshine. It was just lovely.

TimeforDuggee · 31/03/2019 14:51

@Gingersstuff I was about to say the same thing - we see them sometimes here, also East Scotland. I've not manage to get particularly close but you can see them from pretty far away cause they are bloody massive!

Lots of deer around here too, I saw approx ten all standing around in a field the other day, it looked like they were having a wee chat - it was lovely.

TressiliansStone · 31/03/2019 14:52

Ooh, I could do with a good omen, Iklboo!

Funnily enough, a few minutes after I saw it, I had a surprise visitor offering to do a much appreciated favour! So I'm going to count that as today's good fortune.

DGRossetti · 31/03/2019 14:57

I wonder how many there must be living and how far away for an isolated sighting in any given area ?

As for deer ... they're around - here's one not far from us ...

(I like the way it was "returned to the wild" ... in Birmingham Hmm)

Have I just seen a hare?!
EmmaGrundyForPM · 31/03/2019 15:02

We have a lot near us (Cambridgeshire) and I see them quite often. Last year DH and I came across a family of them in the fields near us and spent quite a few summer evenings sitting by the hedgerow watching them.play.

Two weeks ago I was out on my bike and saw two hares racing across a field. I stopped to watch and then realised that it was actually hare coursing. Angry the men and dogs were the far side of the field and when I started running across the field shouting they all jumped in van and sped off. I was fuming.

Quertymcquerty · 31/03/2019 15:09

The —c-hunts are still letting the hounds kill them where I live Angry

Natsku · 31/03/2019 15:21

They are really big! I often get them in my garden, in the winter there are always hard tracks in the snow.
