Lolloping across the field in a rabbit-like manner, but honestly the size of a small dog?

I don't think I've ever seen one before!

Stolichn, oh wow!

What species of deer is that, with such a pronounced white bum?

I saw a huge hare in Devon on Friday, had never seen one before but it was too big to be a rabbit. I was quite excited.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 31/03/2019 16:19

Beautiful, aren't they? I used to see them a lot as a child and hadn't seen one for years, until I saw one last year and was beside myself with joy. DH and the DC were a bit Hmm about overexcited Mum 🤭

labazsisgoingmad · 31/03/2019 16:27

cantfindname · 31/03/2019 18:15

Some years ago I saw a 'hare parliament' Would love to see that again, preferably with a camera this time.

@Stolichn

I'll see your deer and raise you a white reindeer, seen in my grandad's garden!

Yes probably, they can be quite big, we have mountain hares in our back as they are in the forest and field next to us!!I swear they are like kangaroos sometimes!!

Shock beautiful!

I have no idea! Grin I should probably know as I see them often enough. If there's any deer experts, it's up in NE Highlands, near John ogroats type area if that helps narrow down what type it could be Grin

iklboo · 31/03/2019 18:51

That'll be a roe deer with a white bum.

Horehound · 31/03/2019 18:54

Im east Scotland and there's tonnes round here.

KOKOagainandagain · 31/03/2019 19:10

There are lots around here but you can't often see them during the day. Our neighbour has a night vision thing that shows how prolific they actually are.

Unfortunately we call him Deerhunter Dave. He calls around every weekend with heart, liver, kidney from a deer he has just shot for our dog. He has now progressed to bringing around legs (with fur and hooves) for him and is threatening to bring around a head or full carcass. Thankfully the deer hunting season will end soon. I would tell him to do one but he has recruited the dog to his side and is heavily armed.

TressiliansStone · 31/03/2019 19:43

Loving the deer expertise.

Erm, TheGrey1houndSpeaks, is that professional envy?Shock

What’s professional envy? It’s pure, unadulterated envy from this city dweller...

TheGrey1houndSpeaks · 31/03/2019 20:13

Oh, sorry, I’ve just got it. Greyhound... Blush

Yes, they are amazing. I get to see them a few times a week but they never fail to take my breath away.

I once saw a Bambi like deer cantering down the lane in front of my car, I couldn't work it out - thought it was a big dog then it dawned on me. Just amazing - we're semi rural, not in the middle of nowhere, but surrounded by fields. I was utterly stunned when I worked out it was a deer.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 31/03/2019 20:25

They are utterly beautiful. Saw one up close many years ago, and have seen a couple since then.

A muntjac deer jumped out in front of me a couple of weeks ago - they are also lovely and, thankfully, very fast!

lizzie1970a · 31/03/2019 20:28

I've seen some hares from a train in a field. So different from rabbits. Love seeing wildlife. Regularly see a fox and hedgehog at night around my home.

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 31/03/2019 21:05

See them regularly-ish in Suffolk.

Only once have I seen a badger, though, and it was massive. Much bigger than I expected.
