Looking for lemon curd recommendations.

Not eaten it for years & not even sure if I still like it but inspired by another thread I'm fancying some on a hot cross bun.

Any you would recommend/avoid?

Tiptree, then Waitrose.

Nigel Slater’s is very good, will try Delia’s one

i love pavlova with lemon curd on! And whipped cream, and mini eggs.

it is really easy to make, I cannot imagine than any of the shop ones would be as nice. I am a bit precious about lemonyness though, cannot be doing with that fake powdery not lemony enough flavour you can get in lemon stuff.

Definitely make it yourself it's so easy and far better than anything shop bought. I make a lemon meringue roulade and I use the egg whites to make the meringue and the yolks to make the curd. And there's always curd left over. I usually spread it on scones but hot cross buns... I will be trying that at Easter for sure Smile

I’ve not had lemon curd for years!! I really want lemon curd on doorstop white toast with loads of butter now. Damn you diet!

borntobequiet · 30/03/2019 22:09

Lemon curd cake is very nice. Basic Madeira mix with two big gloops of lemon curd added at the end.

I love lemon curd - I had no idea other people loved it so much as well! Yay!! I was worried it was going out of fashion.

My DSIL has a lemon tree in her garden and makes great lemon curd. As PPs have said, it's the tartness/lemony-ness that's so good about homemade. Not that I've ever made it myself... might give it a go.

I had no idea about these other curds either! Must investigate...

I have just been to a national trust property they don't sell black current curd anymore ShockSad I was planning on stocking up too. Picked up some lemon curd though.

PhilODox · 31/03/2019 15:35

I've just seen orange curd in Waitrose- is that nice?
Blackcurrant would be heavenly, but I've never seen it anywhere.

DaedricLordSlayer · 31/03/2019 16:13

Well since my disappointment, I've found tiptree sell it on their website.

@Oldraver I see you are an Orla fan too.

RobertSmithdoesmyhair · 31/03/2019 16:24

Make the Nigella one with her meringues then eat it all yourself before anyone else finds out! 😁

Oldraver · 31/03/2019 16:25

@Flobochin...yes it's very recent thing, I came to the party quiet late and found myself with four metres of fabric.

I'm a member of a Retro/MCM group and almost every picture has some Orla

LaurieFairyCake · 31/03/2019 16:25

I had Daylesfords abd Harvey Nichols ones last month - both lovely (Ocado)

boatyardblues · 31/03/2019 16:38

If you get to making your own, blackcurrant and vanilla curd is epic. I struggled to get hold of blackcurrants until a friend told me about a local PYO. Blackcurrant season is a happy time of year for me.

reallybadidea · 31/03/2019 16:42

That's interesting, I have a huge bag of blackcurrants in my freezer and am a dab hand at fruit curd making.

reallybadidea · 31/03/2019 16:47

Any chance of a recipe @boatyardblues

boatyardblues · 31/03/2019 17:29

We initially bought a jar at a food festival. I couldn’t find a recipe online, so I used one of the many blackcurrant curd recipes available online and added half a vanilla pod.

reallybadidea · 31/03/2019 19:14

Sounds good, thank you!

Flobochin · 31/03/2019 20:42

@Oldraver there are a couple of Orla groups on FB.

Bluetrews25 · 31/03/2019 20:49

Lemon curd on hotties sounds divine.
You've reminded me I had so may blueberries this year that I made some curd with them. Must dig it out.......
