To ask for a hand hold?

My mum is on her way to a&e because of pain all down the side/back of her head. She's been seen by a GP who wants her to have a scan because they don't know what it is!

All I keep thinking about is some sort of aneurysm or stroke (both have happened before in our family). I'm really worried!!

She's now being taken care of. Hopefully they will find out quickly what the problem is and that it's nothing serious and she can be easily treated.

QuestionableMouse · 26/03/2019 18:09

She's (dad's) driving rather than being taken by ambulance but that's not helping much. I'm too far away to be any use at the moment and don't want to set off if I'm not needed (I have a really rotten cold so I'm trying to avoid going to the hospital in case I spread it)

I hope she's OK. It must be really worrying for you.

Thanks. I'm torn between being really worried and really cross. It started yesterday and she's waited until now to get it checked.

I don't mean that, I'm just really worried 😟

I had an awful virus that resulted in exactly that sort of pain last week. It was awful. Not nice to wish an illness on anyone but hoping it could be just that and she feels better soon. Flowers

JaneEyre07 · 26/03/2019 18:58

I get you OP, my Mum had cellulitis and it took 3 days for her to agree how serious it was and even then she wouldn't be admitted like they wanted her to be.

At least she's going in now, that's what matters. Thinking of you Flowers

Hazlenutpie · 26/03/2019 18:59

What a difficult time for your poor mum. Of course you'll be worried sick. Sending a handhold Mouse and I have everything crossed for a good outcome. Flowers

MrsMozartMkII · 26/03/2019 19:01

A handhold from me.

QuestionableMouse · 26/03/2019 19:05

Thanks. She has chronic illnesses but it's just so bloody hard. I wish I'd taken her yesterday now!

We've both had the same cold and I've been getting headaches too so hopefully it is just a virus!

Hope everything is ok OP Thanks

pineappletower · 26/03/2019 21:23

Hope you're ok. The waiting is really tough.

QuestionableMouse · 26/03/2019 21:50

Thanks.

Just had a call. She's had bloods taken, has a temp and is waiting to go through to the ward. They're still not sure what is going on.

Wolfiefan · 26/03/2019 22:08

But at least she’s there and they are checking her out. Hope for good news soon.

jackstini · 26/03/2019 22:12

Hand hold Thanks
She is in the best place for care and getting answers

QuestionableMouse · 26/03/2019 22:24

Me too, thank you.

Hand hold here and hoping your mum is feeling better soon

If it's any consolation, when the hospital suspects acute or sudden onset of stroke, a CT scan should be given in first hour of admission, according to NICE guidelines.

If it's a temporary stroke, they wouldn't be as concerned immediately. An ultrasound and a follow up to keep an eye on her would possibly suffice.

Keep us posted

Sharptic · 26/03/2019 22:47

I'm not medically trained tho!

Bacardi101 · 26/03/2019 22:50

Hope everything is ok Op it must be difficult not knowing what’s going on Flowers

QuestionableMouse · 26/03/2019 23:09

Thanks. They've decided to keep her in but still have no idea what it is! I'm trying to stay away from Google because I'll only scare myself.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 26/03/2019 23:12

They may be waiting on results and just want to keep her in case she needs a specific treatment based on the results.
Stay away from the Google! She’s in the best place and they can monitor closely. Hope you manage some sleep tonight. Flowers

QuestionableMouse · 27/03/2019 00:25

I'm trying to distract myself by looking at short breaks. Not really working... The fact they don't seem to know what is going on is really bothering me!

OP posts:
flitwit99 · 27/03/2019 00:34

I'm awake because ds has a rotten cough and can't sleep. I think he's nodded off now but the hamster is running in his wheel. And I've been awake so long past my normal sleeping time I'm feeling a bit peckish.

Hope you get some news soon. Is your dad staying with her?

QuestionableMouse · 27/03/2019 01:18

Dad was asked to head home for the night. I'm going to ring first thing tomorrow and see what's going on. Hope your ds is soon feeling better!
