Do you see faces in things?

I do, all the time.

This is in the Aldi magazine.

It looks like a woman called Carol who I used to work with.

She wasn't a very nice person. Grin

It’s called pareidolia and it’s behind a lot of supposedly paranormal things. Fun, isn’t it? My friend specialises in faces in buildings.Grin
Enjoy boiling Carol!

Olivetoil · 25/03/2019 18:42

I can even see the parting in her hair Grin

Sirzy · 25/03/2019 18:43

Yes all the time!

OldAndWornOut · 25/03/2019 18:44

I take it Carol had a nice personality? Grin

DuggeesWoggle · 25/03/2019 18:46

Carol Grin

Yes I see faces in things too, not as much as I used to but I think I'm too busy to notice.

There's a farm building near us that looks like Bender from Futurama.

Knittedfairies · 25/03/2019 18:47

All the time!

Mmmhmmokdear · 25/03/2019 19:08

Yes I do! DH doesn't though and thinks it's strange.

Elllicam · 25/03/2019 19:13

I do too! I didn’t realise it was a thing.

Madbengalmum · 25/03/2019 19:14

Me too!

DPotter · 25/03/2019 19:21

It's nothing to do with the paranormal - it's totally normal. Human beings are highly social creatures and we have evolved to notice faces, so our brains expect to see faces and lo and behold they do. It would be odd if you didn't see faces. Babies can see the difference between faces and non-faces - it's hard wired.

I do when I'm on a lower dose of anti psychotics... seriously when I had a bad psychotic episode I was writing & seeing faces in every letter in the page.
Other times I've found it hard to throw rubbish away or separate items because of the items having faces & personalities.
I was really stressed once & saw an evil face in my bedding that was scary.

But I have schizo affective disorder & psychotic symptoms are part of it.

I didn't realise that so called 'normal people saw faces as well.
I guess the problem is when it disrupts your life or upsets you?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/03/2019 19:27

But it does explain some things that people claim are woo, seeing the face of Elvis/Jesus/Uncle Bob in toast and suchlike...

Decormad38 · 25/03/2019 19:30

There is a twitter ‘thing’ called Faces in Things. You can share and share alike on there

LuxuryWoman2018 · 25/03/2019 19:35

Yes, I saw a hippy in my fence panel the other evening, or possibly Jesus.

FrangipaniBlue · 25/03/2019 19:39

I do and DS can usually see them when I point them out.

DH can't and thinks we're off our rockersGrin

Saucery · 25/03/2019 19:42

Only the prehistoric people who could see the sabre tooth tiger’s face in the bushes would survive, so it’s a useful inherited skill.

Persimmonn · 25/03/2019 19:42

Yes I can see faces!

My nails have faces, or mouths. They all have weird smiles. Ring finger looks like she has a jutted jaw. I feel sorry for her.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 25/03/2019 19:48

As a young adult I was very very ill and spent 4 days in intensive care. I was 21 and the hospital was brand new - a few months open.

Literally every curtain in the entire hospital was printed with a pattern of tulips in the style of a watercolour.

Once I was a tiny bit better every single tulip became a face, really really disturbing.
I’d been in danger of going into coma and they had refused to give me opiates because they wanted me conscious the whole time.

A year or two later my DM was admitted to the same hospital. I saw the faces again instantly and proceeded to show the nurses. They could see them then!

As far as I know they’re still there, haunting everyone Hmm

I did once rant at an ‘actual’ hospital designer about this. I told him they shouldn’t have patterns on curtains if someone has to look at it for 24 hours straight 😱

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 25/03/2019 19:50

Not in everything, but to me cars clearly have faces, facial expressions, and personalities.

My current car has buck teeth, reading glasses, and a demure yet obstinate expression. To me.

BertrandRussell · 25/03/2019 19:51

We have real difficulties buying cars because I will only contemplate ones with nice faces, and so many look aggressive.

BertrandRussell · 25/03/2019 19:52

Snap!

hardheadedwoman · 25/03/2019 19:57

I can see a bearded man in my bathroom yikes - can anyone else? He looks like my BIL. Top left hand corner

jenthelibrarian · 25/03/2019 19:57

When we were kids our dining room wall-paper was a leaf pattern and I could see little guys in army-style tin helmets lurking in there.

When we refitted our kitchen I flatly refused even to look at the granite worktops with the 'bits' in because I knew that once I'd spotted any kind of picture in it I'd never to be able to un-see it.
We have nearly plain grey Silestone, and it's 'safe' Smile

Doghorsechicken · 25/03/2019 20:04

I don’t see faces unless somebody points them out. I can see the bearded man!

SkippingPages · 25/03/2019 20:10

YES !!! Always have done.... I've found my people.

In curtains, woodgrain, tree bark etc. Usually human faces, occasionally animal ones. Never really spoken about it to anyone, though, and certainly didn't know it was a thing.

Sometimes the faces are obvious straight away, other times they only appear when I'm daydreaming or my eyes have gone a bit soft focus.
