Scratch Card Win!

KooMoo · 22/03/2019 14:41

Just wanted to share. I cant stop smiling. I have just won 5k on my regular Friday Scratch Card :).

My and OH have spent it 20x over in our heads 😂

If you had an unexpected windfall of 5k what would you treat you and yours too?

Yay well done you.

Id be off on holiday asap, its wet and windy and just grim.

BitchQueen90 · 22/03/2019 14:48

Congrats! I buy a scratch card every Friday too and I've won a tenner today, not as impressive as your win! Grin

Personally I would put it towards the kind of dream holiday that I'd love to go on but can't afford to (French Polynesia springs to mind)

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/03/2019 14:50

Wow. well done you!

I buy about one a month but the most I've won is £20 - if I win about a fiver or less, I use the prize to get more scratchcards, figuring I've already spent my initial pound, but I kept the £20 and it just went into general spending.

For £5k, we'd probably get DP a decent car that is more fuel and tax efficient than the one he has now. Plus I might allow myself to buy the £700 underwater camera that I'd quite like but don't want to pay for. Or get new windows fitted, so many things when you start thinking about it.

We're fortunate that we can afford a good few holidays out of normal spending, which might explain why we don't really have the money to pay for sensible things like cars and windows. Smile

I still can’t quite believe it TheCanyon.

I don’t spend much on lottery or scratchies. I won nearly a thousand about a month ago when the jackpot rolled down and £133 a couple of weeks ago when the same thing happened. My DM always says I was born lucky.

We already have a hol booked for Easter Time. I think I will buy all my nearest and dearest a lucky dip for Saturday with a hope of spreading the luck :) This won’t cost much as small family.

Think we will save a bit and go for a slap upmeal tomorrow night. I also regularly donate to charity, so they can have a little bit extra. Plus care insurance due so can pay it in full instead of instalments.

I’d put it towards a new kitchen. But first give me and my husband £100 each to spend on what ever we liked (I’d probably get some new running shoes). Congratulations!

wendz86 · 22/03/2019 14:53

I'd book a summer holiday somewhere nice and warm. Prob treat myself to a few new bits of clothes and nails done too.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 22/03/2019 14:53

Well done! Enjoy Smile

Fairenuff · 22/03/2019 14:54

Don't spend it on more gambling.

KooMoo · 22/03/2019 14:55

Kintan I like your idea. Can’t quite stretch to a new kitchen but could get a new cooker that is in need of replacement.

£1500 in my holiday fund, £1500 off the credit card, £1500 in the savings account. A little left for fun. Congratulations.

KooMoo · 22/03/2019 14:57

Fairenuff I agree. I only have a scratchy on Fridays and a lucky dip on lotto draws. I don’t drink or smoke so it’s my little vice.

OP posts:
pumpastrotter · 22/03/2019 14:58

lucky sod!

Personally I would pay off our holiday and the rest towards my car. Enjoy!

KooMoo · 22/03/2019 14:59

Disfordarkchocolate written out like that it’s a relatively huge amount! Crumbs ... I’m still in shock.

OP posts:
Fairenuff · 22/03/2019 15:05

Personally I would pay off credit card debts first.

Boring but sensible.

Lovely win!

Disfordarkchocolate · 22/03/2019 15:54

@KooMoo it would be a huge amount for me, not life changing but very lovely. Enjoy.

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/03/2019 15:56

We should probably get a new fridge freezer too, as it's well over 20 years old but it still works fine and I'm curious to see how long it will last if left to it's own devices.

EscapeTheCastle · 22/03/2019 15:57

How to you cash in a scratch card?
I never play those but I do get a lottery ticket twice a month.
Well done OP!

I would think so carefully about it I would probably suck all the fun out of the situation.

HighlandWorrier · 22/03/2019 16:04

It's nice of you to share your good news, gives hope to the rest of us. I was always sceptical that there were actually any big prizes but a few years ago a girl I know won £50,000 on a scratch card. Silly girl spent the lot in no time with nothing to show for. Enjoy spending it Smile

14.41 - First, happy post from OP.
14.54 - 8th post from "Doom & Gloom" telling OP - "Don't spend it on more gambling".
15.05 - Another post from "Doom and Gloom" - "Personally I would pay off credit card debts first. Boring but sensible".
"Sensible" - would be not to have Credit Cards in the first place. Or, pay the balance each month - so you don't have to pay interest.
Also, OP donates to Charity - intending to increase her donation due to the "wind-fall".

pumpastrotter · 22/03/2019 16:34

oh, bog off (paying off each month on time doesn't exclude you from interest anyway if it's not a 0% card, but besides the point)

KooMoo · 22/03/2019 16:52

To whom asked how they payout prizes. As it was an online buy, it goes into your registered account in 3-5 days.

I am sensible .... I don’t have credit card debt to pay off 😬

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 22/03/2019 16:54

@pumpastrotter
And - oh, you bog off with a Biscuit

BatFace1 · 22/03/2019 16:56

Well done! I won the lottery once! 19 years ago. I won 11 and a half thousand which was very nice indeed! Not life changing of course but definitely some nice spending money

And the funny thing is, I never played the lottery again Grin
