Is it possible that the contraceptive pill is causing transgenderism?

I was watching a programme the other day about fish changing sex and scientists putting it down to the hormones from contraceptive pills in the water.

Is it possible, in your opinion, that hormones in the water supply could be affecting humans? Not just MtF but as a whole? Could it be messing with our biological make up?

No

BuffaloCauliflower · 21/03/2019 23:23

I wouldn’t rule it out personally but you’ll make a lot of people angry suggesting such a thing

PurpleDaisies · 21/03/2019 23:24

Where was this program?

PurpleDaisies · 21/03/2019 23:25

Ah, sorry reread. Did the program suggest transgenderism is related to the pill?

Lumene · 21/03/2019 23:26

The fish actually physically change sex rather than wanting to be the opposite sex so I don’t see how this is related to transgenderism.

Funkaccino · 21/03/2019 23:26

People have always struggled with gender roles and found ways to live outside them. The current rise of transgenderism hasbt happened in time with the pill... but with thr rise of social media.

Social contagion is real.

GoldenRingHole · 21/03/2019 23:26

Really @BuffaloCauliflower ?
That is not my intention at all
I just found concept of the programme really interesting and wondered if water sources could affect human hormones.

I don’t mean to offend.

OP posts:
CatGoals · 21/03/2019 23:26

No human can change sex, so no, the pill isn’t affecting anything.

GoldenRingHole · 21/03/2019 23:28

Ok, is clearly too late and I’m sleepy, I haven’t thought this through!

GoldenRingHole · 21/03/2019 23:28

See, I can’t even type a coherent sentence!

No

fearofthesmear · 21/03/2019 23:50

No, I wouldn’t have thought so .

Cousin was transgender . Transitioned FtM between 1960-1980 abroad and never came home ..: his mother was a devout Catholic who had probably never heard of the pill . Sadly she never saw him again after he changed sex but that’s another story . I do often wonder how he realised that he could transition living in very rural far north of Scotland - it must have been almost unheard of at the time - and what triggered it for him , gender roles/non conformity not being an issue as far as I know .

StephsCaddy · 21/03/2019 23:50

No

EnidButton · 21/03/2019 23:57

I don't think so, no.

I don't think there's anything wrong with you pondering the possibly though. Not every single question and subject has to be throughly thought out before posting.

EnidButton · 21/03/2019 23:58

*Possibility

Fuck off Bellavista. You're the only dick I see here.

weaseley · 22/03/2019 00:03

BellaVista1540 what on earth prompted that??

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 22/03/2019 00:08

I think neoliberal individualism and pornography use have a lot to do with hyper focus on identity and fetishes.

CantYouSleepLittleBear · 22/03/2019 00:09

Yep I can only see one dick here, @BellaVista1540.

OP my answer is No (based on no scientific knowledge, I just highly doubt it) - but it's a perfectly interesting and valid question.

BellaVista1540 · 22/03/2019 00:12

@weasely because I’m sick and tired of mumsnet becoming a voice for anti-trans people. Of all the thinks to blame, the contraceptive pill is NOT “to blame” for transgenderism (there is no blame).

@DangerMouse17 I congratulate you on your well reasoned argument.

calpop · 22/03/2019 00:13

also think the causes are this:

*People have always struggled with gender roles and found ways to live outside them. The current rise of transgenderism hasbt happened in time with the pill... but with thr rise of social media.

Social contagion is real.*

Hit the nail on the head.

DangerMouse17 · 22/03/2019 00:17

BellaVista1540

I'm not sure you're best placed to remark on "well reasoned comments" Hmm

BellaVista1540

Haven’t read the thread.

Shut up you dick.

BellaVista1540 · 22/03/2019 00:20

@DangerMouse17 so do YOU think the pill is to “blame” for transgenderism?
