Is it possible that the contraceptive pill is causing transgenderism?

I was watching a programme the other day about fish changing sex and scientists putting it down to the hormones from contraceptive pills in the water.

Is it possible, in your opinion, that hormones in the water supply could be affecting humans? Not just MtF but as a whole? Could it be messing with our biological make up?

Anyway back to OP. This is actually something I have often pondered myself, so you're not alone! I think I read something years ago about there being changes in a lot of our water now through contraceptive usage and the question was raised then. Of course fish can't exactly tell us if they're in the wrong body, but do these physical changes mean that humans could also be experiencing some sort of hormonal/chemical evolution over time? Sensitive topic but very interesting question.

No. It's the chicken nuggets.

You win WaterQuarter Grin

colourfulness · 22/03/2019 01:06

Surely everyone who took it would be affected then? It obviously can't be

Funkaccino · 22/03/2019 07:29

If it were the case I think ut woukd present itself as men gettimg breasts rather than men wanting to be seen as women.

Kez200 · 22/03/2019 07:47

Ive always said, if you look at evolution, our bodies are clever and adapt. So if we want fewer babies and create a way (pill) then I can see we might slowly change so that happens more naturally. Not sure an increase in trans is this, but I still think our bodies will adapt somehow.

Also, whats with this increase in cancers? (four people I know diagnosed gave me the news this week). Various ages from 30 to late 70s. Is this increase some sort of reaction to our surroundings/lifestyle /diet?

Although i take bellas point re blame

I think the OP is quite right to ask whatever questions she wants, i dont think it's possible myself

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 22/03/2019 07:50

Oh and i agree with danger

Its a bit rich commenting on someones 'reasoned argument' when you don't actually have one yourself

GoldenRingHole · 22/03/2019 07:56

The word ‘blame’ was totally wrong. Like I said, I was tired and my mind was doing late night pondering!

Good point regarding social media though.

I think the rise of transgenderism is because it's the new 'trendy inclusive' thing and there's a lot of people who aren't actually trans.

I also think there's been a rise in other mental illnesses and it's all linked.

GoldenRingHole · 22/03/2019 08:01

Hold on, after re-reading my posts, not once did I use the word ‘blame’

So fuck off yourself @BellaVista1540

I personally believe that the blue/pinkification of babies, toddlers and children has fine more harm.

Society is pinning individuals into little gendered boxes from before birth so it’s no surprise that some young people want to break out of them.

But the idea that two/three generations of woman have been taking hormones almost incessantly probably does need investigation. There must be some effects.

runandbehappy50 · 22/03/2019 08:06

Op I have heard something before about the issue of hormones from contraceptive pills contaminating water

Not sure if it's to do with subject being discussed here but it must cause some issue of some sort

NeutralJanet · 22/03/2019 08:08

^ What Prequelle said.

My apologies golden

I didnt even check...and I usually do Blush

No, I think the evidence against it is the presentation differences across different groups.

Why would the pill in water affect teenage girls in a way that "reduces femininity" and affect middle aged men in a way that increases it?
Why are no middle aged women affected?
Why are there clusters, some schools with loads of trans kids, some with none, from the same water supply?
What about the detransitioners?
Why does it have such an overlap with computer science and IT?

It's always good to think these things through, but also to question your premise that this is something biological. Social influences, especially internet porn, are much more credible candidates.

neversaidaword · 22/03/2019 11:48

Wasn't there something about cling film giving out hormones or something? I'm not saying it's the pill, but can diet and packing can affect your hormones. It can't really be right to take the pill, but I have so too, but when I think about it it's a bit scary messing about.

chillpizza · 22/03/2019 12:35

Nah surely if so all women taking the pill would want to become men since they would be having the same chemicals in much higher amounts.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 22/03/2019 12:58

Oh chillpizza don't be such a silly billy. Women on the pill are just so very much more feminine, more pretty, pink and sparkly than women who are not.

No... wait... Fnargh!
