I accidentally booked Truro, Canada, instead of the SW of England.

So, we have to go to Truro in the South West soon, for a weekend, for DDs obsession hobby. So, as usual, we had a good look on Booking.com.I like the lack of paying for cancellation.

I was looking on the app on my phone, DP was looking on his phone. He found a place that was far cheaper than any I could see. He kept on about it, until I asked him the name, googled it and got taken to it via the App. It gave the price in £££, so I booked it. It looked lovely.

The booking confirmation came through and it was in CAD! Took me a while to work out that meant Canadian Dollars. Then I looked and saw it was Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. Lucky I could cancel straight away, but DD thinks it's hilarious, so, well I thought I would share our stupidity with you, so you can have a laugh and maybe make me feel better with similar tales.

I missed my ferry to Holland (way back in time before Eurostar) because I thought 20.00hrs was 10pm, so turned up two hours after it had sailed with the rest of my friends on board, they didn't let me forget that for a long time.
A girl I knew was driving with her husband from London to Cornwall for their annual fortnight holiday. When she was back in the office I asked her if she had enjoyed Cornwall. "Oh we never made it to Cornwall, we ended up on a ferry to the Isle of Wight, so just stayed there instead". It turned out they had no idea where Cornwall actually was and neither of them had thought to look at or take a map with them, but they enjoyed the Isle of Wight anyway Grin.

My DD18 booked train tickets recently to go to a concert with friends. She got confirmation on phone for ticket pickup at station. I dropped them at station as I was passing it for a hospital appt, arrived at hospital and got a call saying she had booked the train for the day she did booking, 10 days earlier! Wasn’t too costly, but she hopefully learnt a lesson.

I am usually ultra careful when booking anything and managed many holidays both at home and abroad without a hitch.

But 2 yrs ago I was going on a work trip with colleagues immediately after a week on leave. Trip was only confirmed on my last day in office, so I rushed to make my hotel booking via company portal. Got an email through, and logged off PC - but didn’t realise that email got sent before the final confirm button was pressed.

Arrived at hotel after a long day travelling and on site - no hotel booking! Like clairemcnam I was almost in tears. They rang our booking company who confirmed the booking was not finalised. They could have sent me to another hotel but luckily one of my colleagues was a woman (not always the case as I work in a v male dominated industry). She kindly said we could share her twin bedded room. I always double check hotel bookings now.

@winsinbin that's wicked! June is lovely here, sunny most days, breezy, and about 20c
Make sure you pack layers, it can be ten or 15 degrees different between inland and the coast. Also, rain can happen quickly.
Comfy shoes for walking, and our dress sense is pretty laid back.
There are hundreds of things to do, and most are quite reasonable priced too.
Amazing restaurant and pub scene, especially if you are into local stuff/microbrewery/East coast authentic

I'm a silly excited a Mumsnetter will be in my corner of the world! I hope you have a brilliant time, and feel free to PM me down the road if I can help!

A friend of a friend applied for a uni course at Hull Uni (Kingston Upon Hull), he actually meant to apply for Kingston (upon thames) uni. It wasn't one of his top preferences but it was the only uni he got a place for. He ended up spending 3 years there do his degree

I turned up to a Travelodge once, where I’d booked a room. Only I hadn’t. I’d actually booked the Premier Inn Down the road because it had been cheaper.

The man at the desk asked me several times if I was sure I really had somewhere to stay? And did I know where I was going? And did I need him to write me a card reminding me to breath in and out?

On a flight back from Lanzarote, for reasons I can't remember, we had to land for a short while in Faro. I was scratching my head trying understand why we would have been flying over Egypt. Blush

16 years ago I booked a return flight to San Jose, Costa Rica instead of San Jose California. I’d chosen the non-refundable option too. Didn’t realize for days why I kept getting emails from the airline with hotel/car rental package recommendations for Costa Rica and it slowly dawned on me. Bloody expensive lesson learned.

You need to rename your towns after popular destinations with airports!

Not such a large scale, but last weekend when out with the girls from work in our local Wetherspoons and friend ordered a last round via the app (which she’d been doing all night without issue).

It was a Friday night and the pub was getting packed, so after a while when the drinks hadn’t arrived she gave up and headed home, and told everyone else to enjoy the round when it eventually arrived... which it didn’t.

Another half hour passed, and someone messaged her to check she’d definitely ordered, and yes, she had, and sent us a screenshot of the confirmation... of a large round being delivered to our table number... at another Wetherspoons 🤦🏻‍♀️ That table must have been really chuffed when their free drinks arrived lol!

Although we get silly with names, in Porters Lake NS, there is This st., That st, and The Other st, and yes, they intersect

I accidentally booked Truro, Canada, instead of the SW of England.

DH booked the ferries for our summer camping holiday

We were staying in the B&B on the return leg just outside Calais. He checked the details on the paperwork for the sailing the next morning

He had booked a ferry but a ferry coming from the Uk and not back to the UK

This was in the days before the internet so stuff had to be done by post or by phone.
We had no mobile phones...

The B&B owner kindly let us use her home phone.

We had to pay again at the terminal but got home ok.

Had to go to Bangor, NI, for work. Work had introduced a sustainable travel policy and the travel team started getting arsy when I said I needed to fly there (from London). I refused to take the ferry, and they said don't worry, the train goes straight there.

Turned out they'd never heard of Bangor in NI, only the Welsh one. After checking an atlas they let me fly...

When I was a teenager I got the train from my parents in Surrey to Ashford, for some work experience. Was pleasantly surprised by the cheap ticket but it was a child one, I figured.

On the way home a ticket inspector told me I was on the wrong train. Turned out there's a village called Ashford in Surrey, about 10 miles from home. I didn't have any money left for a new ticket but eventually he decided having to live in my home town was punishment enough!

burritofan reminds me of a similar thing I did. Went to Sydney (Australia, in case of confusion Wink ). I booked a taxi to Heathrow and back home after my trip at the same time. All fab, lovely taxi, great flight, enjoying Sydney then - at about 4am - I realised I hadn't allowed for the time difference and the taxi driver would be a day early coming to collect me from Heathrow. But I couldn't remember the name of the taxi firm. So I rang my sister and she rang all the cab companies in my town until she found the one I'd booked and changed my booking.

My sister is a total STAR Grin

On an East Coast Mainline train from Kings Cross, a passenger across from me asked whether this train went to Bedford. Um, first stop is Doncaster so that'll be a no. When this news was broken to him he said, "Doncaster? That's up norf innit?" So we could see he was going to do well.

Turned out he was on the right number platform but the wrong station. St Pancras would have been his friend.

On a different sort of note my mobile rang last Saturday night just after midnight. Go into slight panic mode. Person at other end was a pizza delivery driver with a pizza for me. Obviously got my number slightly wrong because I'd not ordered one. He seemed very keen I should take it anyway. But since he was on his mobile and I was on mine, he could have been anywhere on the planet driving around with a pizza.

So many mix ups, sadly.

Have turned up at HRO to fly to US the day after my valid ticket. They let me on. DD did the very next trip, in reverse. They let her fly too, no added cost.

Booked to fly to Seatlle for Saturday evening wedding, back Sunday morning. Turned out I booked it for 12 midnight (after the wedding, and flying back in less than 8 hours after landing. That cost me twice as much again to attend in time.

Bought DS/DDIL tickets to Cirque - not cheap! Turned out I hit 'buy' twice, and didn't notice until my credit card statement came - the day AFTER the show.

I could go on. And on.
