I accidentally booked Truro, Canada, instead of the SW of England.

So, we have to go to Truro in the South West soon, for a weekend, for DDs obsession hobby. So, as usual, we had a good look on Booking.com.I like the lack of paying for cancellation.

I was looking on the app on my phone, DP was looking on his phone. He found a place that was far cheaper than any I could see. He kept on about it, until I asked him the name, googled it and got taken to it via the App. It gave the price in £££, so I booked it. It looked lovely.

The booking confirmation came through and it was in CAD! Took me a while to work out that meant Canadian Dollars. Then I looked and saw it was Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. Lucky I could cancel straight away, but DD thinks it's hilarious, so, well I thought I would share our stupidity with you, so you can have a laugh and maybe make me feel better with similar tales.

New South Wales is the one that gets me.
That Turkey/Torquay story is hilarious!

When we got to the airport to fly back from Lanzarote at the end of Decemeber, we found DH had booked the flight back for 30th JANUARY!

That's why it had been a surprisingly cheap set of flights compared to others he looked at. There were no seats on London flights for days (taking us to after kids were supposed to go back to school), but fortunately 4 seats on a plane back to Birmingham 2 hours after the one we were supposed to take, and they weren't too pricey. Now, we could have hopped on a train and got home quite easily from Brum, only Xmas cancellations, so in the end we spent £200 on a taxi to take us from there to Stansted so we could pick up our car.

That went OK, and we were home by 10pm. And things could have been worse - the next morning the car didn't start, so thank God it didn't do that 12 hours earlier!

When I was qualifying as a nurse I applied for a job in Thamesside not Tameside as I thought I got an interview it was hundreds of miles away!

We go to La Palma in the Canary Islands a lot on holiday and we have been on a plane with quite a few people who are expecting the plane the land in Palma Mallorca. A couple once really kicked off demanding the pilot land while flying over Spain!!!!

Well, I didn't think it would be this common.

DP did say they should have their own names for places instead of copying ours.

I was at a Sara Pascoe gig. She told us that while she was going through a tough time, she booked at retreat in Costa Rica, thinking it was one of the Spanish Costas.

(although how much of the story was for comedic affect I couldn't say).

Most people who make this mistake have booked a package so still have a hotel to go to and a holiday in La Palma at least but this couple who kicked off were meeting family for a wedding in Palma Mallorca the next day. Not sure if they managed to get there but flying to other parts of Spain from the canaries is quite easy. They may have had to go to one the bigger islands first

When I first moved to Newcastle upon Tyne a friend from home (SW) came up to visit me.
He got off the coach a bit earlier than expected so phoned me to tell me he was here - I told him to walk over and wait by the metro station next to the football stadium and I would come and meet him.
"I can't see a football stadium" he replied
"What do you mean you can't see it, it's massive"
After a bit of back and forthing it finally dawned on us he wasn't in Newcastle upon Tyne.....he was in Newcastle under Lyme.
He did admit it was a bit smaller than he thought it would be and the trip was quite a bit quicker 🤦‍♀️
As he didn't have spare money for an additional coach ticket he didn't actually make it up to see me for another 6mths.
I have taken the piss out of him for it forever

Outing myself here...

Many years ago I rang directory enquiries to find the number to a local cinema

'What's the name please?'
She asked
I said my own name instead of the number of the place I wanted the number too.

My DH has done this kind of thing several times. Booked the Eurostar to Antwerp for the day before we wanted to go (Thurs, rather than Fri - turned on Fri and had missed our train by 24 hours). Then he booked flights from Seattle to Fairbanks 24 hours late, which would've meant we missed getting the Alaskan Railroad, so we had to get a flight late at night instead (I was six months pregnant and not best pleased!). I don't let him make travel bookings any more unless a) they're just for him or b) I've checked the dates/times before he hits the 'confirm' button Grin

A friend who is cabin crew recently had a very confused person on her flight to Washington as they thought they should be going to Texas. They'd booked Dulles instead of Dallas. At least it's the same country.

Yeah I did something like this a couple of years ago. I meant to book Perth in Scotland, and accidentally booked Perth in Australia. I paid for it, and it was only a week before we were due to go before I realised my mistake.

Easily done, to book somewhere 1000s and 1000s of miles away on another continent, instead of a place that's a few motorways away in the same country, and not notice that the trip costs 5 times more money. Nice trip to Oz though, not gonna lie.

Needed to book flights to Frankfurt for boss, he was really impressed with the price until he landed. Frankfurt Hahn is 126km from Frankfurt airport and the taxi cost used up all the savings and more.

She told the same story on Would I lie to You, it was true.

I accidentally booked cinema tickets online for the same day rather than the day after. When we went they let us in but someone said we were in their seat, we didn't think so but moved anyway as there was plenty of room. Then the stupid woman went and reported us, and the management escorted us out. It was really embarrassing and as we had clearly paid for the tickets and it was a genuine mistake and there were still plenty of seats I think they could have let us stay. I wrote a stinking email to the Head Office and received replacement tickets but that didn't compensate for the embarrassment over what was a simple mistake.

I booked a hotel in Dublin for the wrong year ,
Thought we were flying to Dubrovnik a day later then we actually were , I had a reminder that we could check in on the flight , thought the airline couldnt count hours correctly ! , finally check a few hours later and frantically booked the hotel for the extra night ( luckily they had availibility ) and rushed to make last minute purchaes and pack ....I always leave everything to the last minute

Again thought we were flying to Florida a day later then we actually were, I rarely check anything after booking , but for some reason I did this time

Ive booked holidays for wrong dates , mainly because when I search for specific dates I expect them to be the ones that appear ......I', looking at you ' On the beach ' !
Booked 4 tickets and paid for a ( very expensive ) London show on the wrong day

Writing it all down is a bit worrying , and I would guess thare may have been more
