What to spend bonus on?

ShirleyPhallus · 21/03/2019 18:35

Usually I’m completely irresponsible and spend my bonus before I’ve even had it, but by some absolute miracle that hasn’t happened this year. So it gets paid on Monday and I have about £12k to play with.

I’ll put some of it in savings but could spend a bit on something nice. Not just anything obviously - not looking to spend it for the sake of it.

Any ideas?

Maybe a Dyson airwrap. Or a mulberry.

Wow half my wage as an nhs nurse Grin

itbemay1 · 21/03/2019 18:41

I always buy myself something nice with my bonus and then treat the DH and family, rest in savings. Mine isn't anywhere near yours but I bought a bottle of jo malone perfume last year.

WinkysTeatowel · 21/03/2019 18:41

Wow, fantastic. Mulberry or DeMeiller maybe or how about a fancy watch?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 21/03/2019 18:47

Er, I’d say that if you’re coming on here asking what item you can buy then you really don’t need or want anything! Grin

If it were me (and it really was spare and not to be put towards a new car/boiler/kids uni fees etc) I’d always spend that type of thing on an amazing holiday/s (not that this would ever happen in the public sector). but then I’m not into buying for the sake of it and much rather (pass the sick bucket) “make memories” 🤮

ShirleyPhallus · 21/03/2019 18:50

CurlyHairedAssassin I went on a million holidays last year, but changing jobs soon so can’t really book anything. That is probably the only reason I actually have any money this time! It’s a most unsettling feeling!

I used mine as a car deposit last year (nowhere near yours, mind Grin). Also gave my nieces a set amount each to pick something.

WinkysTeatowel · 21/03/2019 18:54

@ShirleyPhallus I've been looking at bags too... my thread is here. Lots of lovely bags mentioned, there is a gorgeous doctors bag from the Cambridge Satchel company too.

I'm still deciding....

NeverHadANickname · 21/03/2019 19:04

Well last time I had a bump in wages I bought a frog and all the tank and bits and pieces with my increase. I came to recommend that but it was a lot less than 12k. Maybe still an option though. Mine was a north American tree frog.

ilovesooty · 21/03/2019 19:07

Isn't it family money?

Processedpea · 21/03/2019 19:10

A frog ! Do you have a photo of the frog

LizzieMacQueen · 21/03/2019 19:13

What job do you do OP?

Lots of holidays and you're still moving to a new job? What don't you like about this £12k bonus-paying one?

ShirleyPhallus · 21/03/2019 19:18

Thanks @WinkysTeatowel, I’ll get over there!!

“Isn’t it family money?” What, like share it with my mum and dad?

@LizzieMacQueen incredibly boring financial services. Been there for too long and not challenged anymore. Basically waiting for bonuses to be paid then I’m offski. I also really dislike that we get bonuses at all, I’d much rather be paid a full salary and then know it’s coming.

I’d like a photo of the frog too!

It never let's me post photos on here! I just tried and can't see my post so sorry if it is there and I can't see it. I'll contact MNHQ because this isn't the first time I have been unable to post a picture. Anyway, he is like this www.petsuppliesplus.com/en/Resource-Center/Reptile/American-Green-Tree-Frog

ILikeyourHairyHands · 21/03/2019 19:38

If I was going you have a frivolous non-clothes spend I'd also get a frogs, a couple of dart frogs and one of these biopod terras, I'd then spend a fortune scaping it. I might get a biopod aqua too whilst I was at it.

pussinwellyboots · 21/03/2019 19:40

I'd pay to rebuild the 8 houses in Katcherie village in Malawi that have been washed away by Storm Idai (£500) each. Each house houses a gogo (grandmother caring for her orphaned grandchildren).

My aunt lives in Malawi and my mum runs a charity working in this village which is why here particularly.

But I'd also be frivolous and buy a robotic Hoover for me!

Processedpea · 21/03/2019 19:47

The link doesn't work nickname Grin

dairymilkmonster · 21/03/2019 19:52

Take family to a west end show?
Give 10% to charity of your choice

SoyDora · 21/03/2019 19:52

We’ve got a similar bonus coming (well DH has but it’s family money). It’s going on a new bathroom and a new front and back door. Pretty dull!

DreamingofSunshine · 21/03/2019 19:56

The airwrap is a great buy, I've got rid of all my other styling tools and hairdryer and just use that.

NeverHadANickname · 21/03/2019 19:57

@Processedpea how annoying! I don't know how links work here to be honest, it worked when I clicked it when I posted it. If you Google north American tree frog then it should come up, it is the bright green one, bit like Kermit.

Processedpea · 21/03/2019 20:26

Like this ?

What to spend bonus on?
Palominoo · 21/03/2019 20:33

I now want a Tree frog and a Micro Pig - Kermit and Miss Piggy.

NeverHadANickname · 21/03/2019 20:37

Yes @Processedpea! He was so cute 😍 would make noises too and jump after his flys.
