I know there are a fair few fans on here of his! I want to buy his books for my 13yr old son, any suggestions on the first one to buy him?

Mort. Definitely Mort.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 21/03/2019 17:46

Wyrd Sisters.

Or

Mort.

Or

Guards guards

Or all three! Just don't start with The Colour of Magic

iklboo · 21/03/2019 17:48

Mort
Guards, Guards
Wyrd Sisters
Wee Free Men (DS's intro to Sir Pterry)

I bloody love the colour of magic. What's wrong with it? Anyway little gods or that one with the angel and demon..... God I miss Terry Pratchett. That's the only time in my life I've cried when a famous person I don't know at all died. Just felt like part of my teens went away.

iklboo · 21/03/2019 17:49

Oh and The Amazing Maurice & His Educated Rodents

BillywigSting · 21/03/2019 17:50

Any and or all of the above plus soul music and the Tiffany Aching books

Harebel · 21/03/2019 17:51

Truckers, Diggers and Wings.

Minkies11 · 21/03/2019 17:54

Mort or Wyrd Sisters!

ladyvimes · 21/03/2019 17:54

I agree with pp’s definitely Mort. That was my first!
All the watch ones are fab too. Give you one guess who my favourite character is Wink

BarkandCheese · 21/03/2019 17:55

The angel and demon one is Good Omens, it co authored with Neil Gaiman and Amazon have made a it as a series with David Tennant and Michael Sheen, and from the trailer it looks very good.

Anyway, I’d start with Guards Guards, Wyard Sisters or Small Gods.

SacharissaCrisplock · 21/03/2019 17:56

Others have suggested Mort or Guards! Guards! And they're both solid choices. I think you can't go far wrong with any of them really but some are more accessible than others. G!G! Was the one I started with at about that age and I loved it.

Schroedingersbadger · 21/03/2019 18:44

I started on Mort after struggling too many times to get into Colour of Magic. Now I'm a massive fan. I'm excited for your DS to have these reads ahead of him Smile

SparklesandFlowers · 21/03/2019 19:00

The Hogfather. Or actually, any of the Death ones.

Johnnysmilkingparlour · 21/03/2019 19:19

My favourite was "Johnny and the Dead". It is written specifically for children, so is a very easy read.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 21/03/2019 19:23

I adore Discworld and have read them all many times over but I whole heartedly agree that the first few books are exceptionally hard going for younger first time readers.

Wyrd Sisters was my first and I agree that this and Mort are the best for younger readers. Also Wee Free Men!

Favourite character is Vimes. Nope, it’s Vetinari. No no, it’s actually Granny Weatherwax. Ooooh sorry, actually I love Tiffany. Wait a moment, I forgot The Librarian...

Tell me, are you Elvish?

iklboo · 21/03/2019 19:23

Ooh Reaper Man!!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/03/2019 19:24

My favourites are Thud and Unseen Accademicals
DD loves anything with Rincewind
DS is a fan of the guards.
We all love Death and Lord Vetinari
So I simply bought the books in order of publication.

iklboo · 21/03/2019 19:24

Tell me, are you Elvish?

No, but baby I was Born To Rune Grin

BobbinThreadbare123 · 21/03/2019 19:28

All. Of. Them.

BellMcEnd · 21/03/2019 19:29

Mort.

And then ALL OF THEM

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 21/03/2019 19:32

Agree fully with CarlGrimes. I'm a bit slow off the mark, kept meaning to get through them all and never did all there's a good chunk of discworld I've yet to read (or listen to, I'm going through them on audible).

Love Wyrd Sisters, I have the 90s animated version of that on dvd. I also shed a tear when he died, the only famous person I've done that over.

Oysterbabe · 21/03/2019 19:32

Interesting times is my favourite.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 21/03/2019 19:40

No, but baby I was Born To Rune

Grin
CheesePuffTheMagicDragon · 21/03/2019 19:43

I think the Vimes books or the Tiffany Aching books are probably the easiest to start with, I started with Mort, but found the Vimes books were a bit faster, so easier to get into
Enjoy! I wish I could read TP for the first time again Sad

Hippopotas · 21/03/2019 19:56

Wyrd sisters

I really like small God’s but that might be a bit heavy for a youngster.

Nanny Ogg is my favourite character.
