Sorry I know it's nosy Grin obviously if you don't want to answer that's fine!

It's more to give me inspiration that at my age (29) I will actually at some point be able to get myself a job that's on more than minimum wage (work in retail now).

I'm educated to degree level and have lots of skills I could transfer, but have zero self confidence. I want nice things though (sunny holidays, newer car, savings etc) so the reality is I need to find myself a higher paid job!

OP, you don’t need people here to tell you they’re 35 and on £80k. It’s completely meaningless.

Can we help instead encourage you towards a better paid role?

Bluesheep8 · 21/03/2019 13:53

I'm 45. Educated to degree level. Earn 19k.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 21/03/2019 13:53

Two of the rudest questions a Brit can be asked Grin

WifOfBif · 21/03/2019 13:55

I’m 34, I’ve just left a 26k part time job to go and be a support worker for £16k and I couldn’t be happier.

What would you like to do OP? What’s your passion?

IAmALionTamer · 21/03/2019 13:55

I’m 31 and earn £10k in a part time admin role.
Prior to having DC I was on £40k plus bonuses.

JourneyofSelfImprovement · 21/03/2019 13:56

@ShakeYourTailFeathers I know, I do apologise! hoping the anonymity makes it not so bad?!

@Happyspud that would be good Smile I've been looking at better paid roles on Indeed but I'm too nervous to apply for them because I just can't sell myself at interview, even though my husband is very supportive and tells me to go for it!

Piss all
Love my job though!

Buddyelf · 21/03/2019 13:57

33 and part time, 16k a year educated to degree level. Before second dc I was full time and on 32k a year. So much happier now

QforCucumber · 21/03/2019 13:57

32, £23k in a managerial role but in the North East where wages seem crazy low but so is housing. No degree, worked my way here.

JourneyofSelfImprovement · 21/03/2019 13:58

@WifOfBif congratulations on the job!
Honestly I'm not sure, don't really have any passions I don't think...
I've worked in retail for 13 years, at management level for 6, which I need a change from. I'm starting to struggle in a customer facing role now.

RoryLeighGilmore · 21/03/2019 14:00

TeeBee · 21/03/2019 14:01

46, £100k +. Love my job.

MaMisled · 21/03/2019 14:01

thaegumathteth · 21/03/2019 14:03

Dh is 41 and earns approx 55k

Expressedways · 21/03/2019 14:04

30 and £50k. It’s an admin roll, I do have a degree but it’s not a requirement.

ATailofTwoKitties · 21/03/2019 14:04

Just about made it back to what I was getting pre-kids. Sigh...

TaxiGood · 21/03/2019 14:04

I’m 97 and I earn £75285801558

daphine2004 · 21/03/2019 14:06

It’s so easy to compare and feel crap. People will always earn more or less than you.

I always thought that I was on low pay years ago whilst my friends were powering ahead. That’s all changed now and we are or less in similar situations. Life happens and people do things at different times. My uni friends went on to work after graduating, as did I for a time, but then I changed career paths and went back to uni to do an MA.

I don’t feel that way anymore and firmly believe that it is how you feel about where you are in life. Things happen at different times, it doesn’t mean you’ll always stay where you are.

Good luck.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 21/03/2019 14:07

I’m 35 and I earn €60k

Sweetooth92 · 21/03/2019 14:08

27 & 24k for ft, but very flexible so work 4 days not 5

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 21/03/2019 14:11

31 and earn £53k in Whitehall. Hold a relevant MSc and expect to hit £60k within the next five years - but only slow pay growth thereafter.

Strawberrylaceaddict · 21/03/2019 14:15

30 and 45k plus bonus (was about 7k) this year but no where near that usually!

sar302 · 21/03/2019 14:17

34, masters degree. Was earning 35k in public sector, am now a SAHM entirely supported by my husband. Will go back at some point, but will sadly never make my millions in the public sector.....
