Apparently I'm too old!!

So last night I was on FB and saw a decorate a post saying there were still places available on a cookie decorating workshop.

Well I love that crap, and sent a PM to say interested. The lady came back to me to say to reserve place I should pay. I duly did, and thought would introduce myself further.

The group was called first mummies club, but I assumed it was like Mumsnet so ALL mums welcome. Boy was I wrong.

"Normally, First Mummies' Club is aimed at Mums of primary school aged children and below.

When other Mums have approached me before who have older children, I've suggested alternative groups that may be more suitable."

Really?? I'm not welcome to do crafts as I have older children??

As you've paid me, I'd be happy to have you on this occasion.

Although, on second thoughts, sign me up for the 'Menopausal Mummy club' I'll make an exception there.

Not bothered about people seeing my name, although I'll probably name change on here soon (I'll forget)

Reading it, it seems even more niche than primary school children, like it's aimed at those on mat leave first time round - with the focus on "you-time" and making friends etc.

Set up your own "hot flush club" where instructions are repeated 10 times for those whose memories are shot to pieces, held in an air conditioned room, plenty of tea/gin breaks and a no-holds-barred approach to swearing when your crafting goes wrong.

I'll join that one drop, in fact forget icing biscuits, just boil the kettle and eat the buggers

@DropZoneOne love the idea of that!

(Slightly on point as I went into the kitchen to find a drink I'd poured about an hour ago and forgotten about!!Blush)

Oh god I can't drink it kills my head, can I bring tea bags?

Report
watfordmummy · 20/03/2019 20:54

@ssd of course!! I'm usually on the tea too!! Will you be bringing the biscuits to go with the tea, as I think the ones on gin would prefer a crisp? (Tyrells of course!)

Ha, this is local to me - more than one of my Facebook friends "likes" the group. Tonnes of "yummy mummies" round these parts.

While the biscuits look very pretty, I am of the opinion that the word "mummy" should only ever be uttered by a small child or by someone who is talking to one. I probably wouldn't last long without snorting derisively. Tempted to set up rival event just streaming Sweet Ambs YouTube vids and scoffing packets of chocolate hobnobs.

@LemonRedwood - there's tonnes of us in this area, I think the breakaway group is a goer!

(I still want to learn to do my biscuit!!)

I'm up for anything* as long as there's biscuits Grin

*Disclaimer: "anything" may change definition on a daily basis and definitely excludes activities that require too much moving or thinking.

Quite a niche group to be spamming I thought!

I am guessing it has nothing to do with your age though?

A "cookie decorating workshop"- sounds like a nice afternoon for 5 year olds.

Could it be a workshop to help mothers with younger children, inspire them with ideas etc so they can do craft activities with their children at home?

So that's why the workshop is aimed at mothers with younger children.

Just a thought.

Also local & totally up for the breakaway group!

Seen this group advertise a few times but just can't get past the title! (Also I have 2dc now so presumably also not welcome?)

@speakout

It wasn't in the afternoon, and it was more advanced than just slapping a bit of icing on a cookie. As I've said before I enjoy crafts that type of shit and tbh only looked at the workshop not the group hosting.
