What did you call giving someone a lift on your bike?

And where in the country was it?

DH brought up near Birmingham called it a 'backie'

I was brought up in North Yorkshire, called it a 'croggy'.

Just seen a teenage lad giving a friend a handlebar croggy which is what brought it to mind!

I don't think people sat on the handlebars in south lincs, you're harder in Yorkshire :)

clary I am fascinated by regional dialects and differences. Words that we grew up with thinking everyone said and 10 miles down the road it's like a different world!

I do wonder if regional differences are dying out a bit but the dialect words do seem very stubborn in playground circles.

In north london we called it a backie, even if you were on the front! One on the back, one on the front and someone peddaling desperately trying not to fall over, the front one would always jump off, tipping us over. Ahhh good times Grin

Backie - far north of Scotland.

Not aware of people giving lifts on the handlebars, so no word for that.
