Looking highly unlikely there will be a third vote on the WA now.

So it's long extension (which EU not happy about and unlikely to grant) or crash out, right?

I agree. I thought bercow had put a stop to that but it looks like they'll choose to ignore him. Does that mean he'll resign?

Every day I am waiting to see what madness develops

Sorry my question to rhubarb was about the extension being discussed on 28th. I can understand why they want to cut it fine but it's terrifying.

Bluntness100 · 20/03/2019 07:28

No that's not right they are discussing it Thursday and Friday this week, and they have pencilled in an emergancy summit for the 28th jist in case.

Because Teresa May then has to have a vote on it next week in parliament,

The news is saying she has went for a short one, but this is totally against her commitment to parliament, she said she would only do this if her deal was passed. I fail to see how she can't now be held in contempt of parliament.

However it is just rumour at this stage, she nor the cabinet have confirmed it.

Bluntness100 · 20/03/2019 07:29

I don't think he will resign as he has done nothing wrong.

What can happen though is the government can table a motion saying not withstanding the speakers advice we wish to vote on this, then she can have another vote on it"

Right now she does not have enough votes to get the deal passed though. It's a huge mess. Huge.

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2019 08:19

I assumed he'd resign if he was so publicly ignored. I would.
Any way the news is now reporting she's only asking for an extension to end of June. Whether that will still be the case this afternoon remains to be seen.

Yeah, I don't think he will resign, he has simply put a point of order and was correct in doing so. If the house wish to break the rule and vote to do so, it doesn't mean he's done a bad thing, he's simply done his job and ensured everything is managed correctly. If he had permitted it with no comment, then I think he would be forced to resign.

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2019 05:55

Can anyone explain what the implications of them having this vote are when he's forbidden it? I honestly thought is meant it couldn't happen, turns out it doesnt mean anything.

Nothing means nothing anymore. I hope The Queen will be having stern words with TM today.

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2019 06:27

I thought what bercow said was a big deal. Turns out I could have said it for all the difference it's made.

OP posts:
NotNowMrTumnus · 21/03/2019 06:32

I’m serious about The Queen who is a stickler for convention and her constitution. I suspect she will take a dim view of TM’s dictatorial actions. And the Weekly Audience takes place on Thursdays.

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2019 06:36

But if she can ignore the public recriminations then whatever the Queen says in private is unlikely to make any difference

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 21/03/2019 06:46

Bercow hasn't ruled out a 3rd vote. Just said the words need to be tighter and must demonstrate that this is a vote on a fresh issue. Nothing some weasel words can't fix.

wowfudge · 21/03/2019 07:44

TM isn't meeting the Queen today, she's in Brussels.

YourOP · 21/03/2019 07:50

Posted too soon. Please sign this petition if you think we should Revoke. I signed it late last night when it was at about 100,000 and it’s grown to over 400,000 over night. I must not be the only one losing sleep over this Brexit mess...

Ewitsahooman · 21/03/2019 09:07

I think the petitions website may have crashed

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2019 09:43

Signed it

Why is the bbc saying.
The UK is due to leave the EU in eight days, with or without a deal, if no extension is agreed.
On a story about how an extension has been agreed?

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 22/03/2019 05:59

I think the BBC is saying that because that is the current state of play on the statute. The statute needs to change for anything else.

Triglesoffy · 22/03/2019 06:39

It’s been delayed to 12 April.

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2019 08:55

But it'd just totally contradictory and I find it really unhelpful. An extension has been agreed. But we leave in a week unless and extension is agreed

OP posts:
LarkDescending · 22/03/2019 09:00

The EU has said we can extend from their point of view. But we have enshrined 29 March in domestic law. Unless and until that is amended we leave on that date.

(But it will be amended, because TM accepted the EU’s extension offer last night so will have to put forward a statutory instrument to amend the statutory date.)
