Looking highly unlikely there will be a third vote on the WA now.

So it's long extension (which EU not happy about and unlikely to grant) or crash out, right?

OP posts:
longwayoff · 18/03/2019 17:39

I love John Bercow. Look leavers, there he is, putting parliamentary sovereignty before narrow party interests, which is what you demanded so we're all happy now.

KennDodd · 18/03/2019 17:43

Does anybody know what the odds are on 'no deal' crash out/extension/WA?

VanillaSugarr · 18/03/2019 17:45

There’s an EU guy on Radio 4 basically saying FU U.K.

On every level Confused

VanillaSugarr · 18/03/2019 17:46

“The problem is not the EU, the problem is the Giid Friday Agreement.” By Phillipe Lambert, a Belgian MEP.

KennDodd · 18/03/2019 17:47

@morningstress

Come marching

www.peoples-vote.uk/march

Theres even a whole section for people who voted Leave and regret it.

KennDodd · 18/03/2019 17:49

The problem is not the EU, the problem is the Giid Friday Agreement.

I don't agree. The problem is Brexit. It's a shit idea whichever way you look at it.

Bluntness100 · 18/03/2019 17:56

No deal is off the table. Politically, legally it just needs to be passed onto legislation, Teresa May has said she will respect the vote and she ill be in contempt of parliament if she does not.

So now she has to ask for a lengthy delay. It's highly unlikely that the Eu would reject this, but if they did, then she would have to face revoking it.

Revoking doesn't mean it's off the table for ever, she can then invoke it again when ever she feels like, basically it's resetting the clock.

We can't "accidentally" crash out with no deal. That's just silly. What are we going to do, say oh shit, I didn't realise it was the 29th? Hmm

JuneFromBethesda · 18/03/2019 18:01

I wish I had your confidence Bluntness I swing from faint stirrings of hope then back to furious doom again ...

JuneFromBethesda · 18/03/2019 18:04

Also loving AutumnCrow’s evocative description of Andrea Leadsom. I’ll never forget sitting in front of the tv bleary-eyed in horror at 5.30 the morning of the referendum result watching Leadsom being interviewed and practically bouncing up and down in her seat with glee 😠

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 18/03/2019 18:05

No deal is off the table. Politically, legally it just needs to be passed onto legislation, Teresa May has said she will respect the vote and she ill be in contempt of parliament if she does not.

Her government was found in contempt of parliament not so long ago. Didn't seem to bother them too much. As it stands today No Deal is still very much a likely outcome. A vote in the Commons saying it doesn't want No Deal is just the Commons negotiating with itself. Yet again.

PickAChew · 18/03/2019 18:05

Nige isn't walking. He joined them on Saturday and went for a pint in hartlepool but has better things to do, apparently.

And for peak irony, they planned to cross the transporter bridge, yesterday, but it was closed.

KennDodd · 18/03/2019 18:08

Is there a majority in parliament for a lengthy extension though? I'm not sure there is, which way would Corbyn whip?

longwayoff · 18/03/2019 18:34

Pickachew, are you in the Nige walk area? If so, how's it looking? A friend came across a Brexit march in London a few weeks ago, said there were about 40 supporters.

Rhubarbisevil · 18/03/2019 18:38

The Farage March is coming to my area Confused. I want to make some placards which say

DOWN WITH SORT OF THING

and

No Deal? CAREFUL NOW

I sound flippant but I hate Brexit Sad

Tomtontom · 18/03/2019 18:50

Worth following the Led By Donkeys Twitter for updates on the leave march. Hilarious! Passing by my house on Saturday, thinking of blasting Benny Hill out the windows Smile

Tomtontom · 18/03/2019 18:53

Kenn, the Labour whip will depend on the terms of the extension and where we are with potential deals at that point. There's growing support for Labour's deal (favoured by the EU) but still not enough for a majority.

PickAChew · 18/03/2019 18:57

@longwayoff there were a good 50 people out on the Sunderland to hartlepool leg, on Saturday, despite the filthy weather. I took an extremely blurry picture from the bus we were on, heading in the opposite direction.

There were lots of stragglers. No idea whether the stragglers signed up for other days. I suspect a lot will drop out after farage made his excuses not to walk (Adam Hills is going to have to dig his hands deep into his pockets!) and yesterday's walkers had to make a 5 mile detour to a different river crossing.

DS1 was more interested in the bus that's supposed to be carrying them between legs. I hope the weather stays better than Saturday because it's an open topped routemaster.

Looking highly unlikely there will be a third vote on the WA now.
PickAChew · 18/03/2019 18:58

Rhubarb, they're being followed by counter protests! You'll not be alone.

wowfudge · 18/03/2019 19:09

Parliament has been doing its job. It's stopped us crashing out with no deal, which would be hugely damaging, and it's stopped us leaving with a poor agreement, which resolves nothing.

The EU will agree to a long extension - why wouldn't they?

The uncertainty around Brexit is damaging, but leaving would be worse as things stand.

mummmy2017 · 18/03/2019 19:15

Questions.
Why do you want a delay?
What will you use it to do?
Nothing has changed....so ?

EnlightenmentwasaPassingPhase · 18/03/2019 19:21

What will you use it to do?

Campaign to remain.

errorofjudgement · 18/03/2019 19:25

So if the EU refuse an extension on the grounds UK Gov wouldn’t know what to do with it anyway, and MPs have rejected leaving without a deal, Is it likely the government would be forced to either revoke or eithfrse article 50?

AutumnCrow · 18/03/2019 19:30

Apparently a Speaker's conference was held in 2008-09 on parliamentary representation. I found this link but that's all I know.

www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/other-committees/speakers-conference-on-parliamentary-representation/

Leadsom definitely insulted Bercow and suggested he couldn't be courteous.

I don't think Andrea 'As A Mum' Leadsom was courteous to Theresa May during the Tory leadership election. She uses gendered sexist tropes and motifs while claiming she's a 'progressive'.

PickAChew · 18/03/2019 19:38

Oh, I've just found some excellent footage of the counter protest billboards and everyone's reaction.
