Claudia Lawrence - 10 years on

What interests me about this case is that the police have repeatedly said that key information has been withheld from them by people who know or strongly suspect something, and this is why it hasn’t been solved.

So there are people going about their lives, shopping, going on holidays, eating dinner, whatever, who have knowledge about a murder. I can just about fathom turning a blind eye to an affair or a theft or something but a murder? Just who would do this?! Even if you were a wronged wife or something and hated her as the OW, would you really help cover up her murder?

I just cannot stretch my brain to understand this.

We were on holiday in Pickering not long after she went missing. There were posters everywhere. I hope for her poor families sake she is found. Somebody must know something.

Pinkarsedfly · 18/03/2019 10:39

I used to live on the same street as Claudia Lawrence, and her local was mine. Not at the same time, I hasten to add. But it really is the most pleasant place - so at odds with what happened.

I also was attending York University, where she worked, at the time she went missing. I can’t believe in ten years, nothing has come to light. How can a person’s life just be erased like that?

I feel so, so sorry for her friends and family. It must be hell.

Thesearmsofmine · 18/03/2019 10:41

I’m in Yorkshire too and I have seen her dad on the local news often over the years, it must be so difficult not knowing. I hope her father gets some closure on what happened to Claudia.

HeyCarrieAnneWhatsYourGame · 18/03/2019 10:45

It will have been an affair or something else sex/relationship based that was clandestine. I’ve seen several examples over the years where I think it could have gone as far as a murder/cover up. Agree though that in this day and age that seems bananas you’d get away with it.

NotNowMrTumnus · 18/03/2019 10:51

I was at school with Claudia and her sister and so the home town is very small and everyone knows each other.

I would like to highlight:

A) the family have been extremely dignified
B) there are dreadful rumours going around and lots of theories
C) PLEASE, in your discussion, remember that you are talking about a real family who are still in grief and have never had closure.

Sorry if I sound sanctimonious.

igotdemons · 18/03/2019 11:07

I always find missing persons cases particularly haunting - that a person can just disappear without a trace, they have to be somewhere so where do they all go? So sad and upsetting for the family to not know where your loved one is 😔 Really hope that if there are people out there withholding important information that their conscience is soon pricked and she is found.

NorthernLurker · 18/03/2019 12:48

I was reading about the case recently, it's local to me. It was mentioned her bed was made. Now I refuse to believe a thirty something with a duvet, getting up at sparrow fart on a week day carefully makes their bed before leaving. Somebody else must have been there and made the bed to remove evidence of their presence and make it look like she'd got up and gone to work. Ditto the breakfast pots. As to who and why no ideas at all. Awful case.

Rumbletum2 · 18/03/2019 12:51

I’d make my bed in those circumstances.

NorthernLurker · 18/03/2019 12:53

You're a better woman than I then Grin

Rumbletum2 · 18/03/2019 12:55

I can say with some confidence that I’m not 😁

I just hate coming home to an unmade bed and with a duvet it takes literally seconds.

Dramatical · 18/03/2019 12:56

Presumably the people who know something are not giving the information because they are guilty.

Palominoo · 18/03/2019 13:01

I thought she was spotted early in the morning on her regular walk and time on her way to work but didn't show up?

BusterTheBulldog · 18/03/2019 13:02

Hmm I always make my bed, I hate coming into a room and seeing an unmade bed. I get up at 430 far too frequently too.

It’s just an awful case. How can there be no leads?

JaneEyre07 · 18/03/2019 13:05

I've always felt so sad for her family.

I can't imagine the not knowing Sad - how do you live with that?

NotMaryWhitehouse · 18/03/2019 18:39

We've always thought that the police have known for years who did it and what happened- they just cannot get enough evidence to charge someone. I hope someone's conscience gets the better of them.

Everyone locally heard 'the rumours', but so what?? Even if it was all true, I think she was having a great life and enjoying herself and that was her business.

Very, very sad for her family and friends.

Patroclus · 19/03/2019 15:35

Cant believe its been 10 years. Been in the news a lot with York being close to Hull

www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-east-yorkshire-news/libby-squire-claudia-lawrence-missing-2657017

This maybe sounds absurd and I dont want to minimise it all, but I keep thinking about how upsetting it can be to not know the outcome of even small things, or losing something valuable- how much must the pain of losing your child and just not knowing where they are be.

juneau · 19/03/2019 15:38

Wow - is it 10 years already? I really feel for her family. Such unpleasant things were said about her after his disappearance and it must be devastating to know that people out there know what happened, where she is, etc, and are not saying anything.

juneau · 19/03/2019 15:38

*her disappearance

HelenaDove · 19/03/2019 15:41

Was reading about this in a magazine a couple of weeks ago. Joan Lawrence has lost her hair due to the stress and wears a wig. What this poor family have gone through Sad

Pancakeflipper · 19/03/2019 15:47

On the few occasions the media have reported someone has been arrested, I have hoped so much it would be the one leading to finding Claudia.

Her family must go through some level of hell everyday. No family deserves this.

There was a great article on the BBC site recently about the police investigation and the huge focus on her love life. Think it was in the magazine section. Worth a read.

Patroclus · 19/03/2019 16:01

Her mum (Claudia's) says she thinks she is still alive but in captivity. Imagine having that in the back of your mind every day

I heard this rumour a few weeks ago. These stories emerge when there is no other hard evidence.
