I put it on because I thought it woukd be entertaining but actually, its pretty boring and flat. (Not talking about the causes sections)

I'd assume the baby in blue was Lily's older brother. Or a continuity error as you said! We're probably all over-thinking it.

I think it's sad that so many posters are slating the programme, it raises loads of money for good causes, where else is £68million going to come from to fill the gap? It's down this year in part due to David Lammy's criticism of Stacey D, I admit it's a tricky balance but I bet those villagers are glad of the help. .Hmm

To paraphrase Hennig Wein
charity represents a failure by government
If taxes rose back to where they were under Margaret Thatcher, there would be no need for austerity.

£68million is less than its costing to put toilets and electric points along the M20 ready for Brexit [hmmm]

Colourpencils · 18/03/2019 13:30

Oh god don't get me started on what we could be doing with Brexit money Talkingpaece. I agree that there should be far higher taxation for certain individuals and companies but in the eternal interim I do think there is a place for this type of charitable fundraising. I mean the London marathon is one of the, if not the biggest fundraiser on the planet and I don't think anyone would say let's ban people from fundraising as the govt should be funding all those hospices, air ambulances, cancer research etc. Tbh I don't think there would ever be enough money however much taxation we had and at least with charitable donations the individual can choose where their money goes.

TalkinPaece · 18/03/2019 15:13

The London Marathon should be about running, not compulsory fund raising
people feel pressured to donate to provide essential services
while the super rich hide their homes behind tax haven rules

Colourpencils · 18/03/2019 18:55

The London Marathon isn't about compulsory fundraising at all. You can get through on the ballot or choose to raise money for your chosen charity.

I don't think the super rich avoiding tax and someone running dressed as a rhino to raise funds for Rhino Rescue (how happy would you be if taxes were raised and some of your hard earned went to that particular charity say?) can really be included in the same consideration.

Exactly this. There will always be a place and a need for charity. Disgusted that people tried to use this thread as a way of airing their views on the night that the programme was on. Comic Relief does so much good work, anyone trying to stop that should be ashamed of themselves.

TalkinPaece · 18/03/2019 20:29

Sleeping
Comic Relief funds Mermaids.
I fundamentally disagree with the objectives of that group and believe that in future years there will be court cases to do with them.
I am free to decide where I give money and time.

Colourpencils · 18/03/2019 20:40

Ok I understand that you don't agree with that particularly charity I appreciate that but isn't it rather throwing the baby out with the bath water if they weren't raising money for any charity? Do you think Children in Need is a better charity for instance? I give a bit to them all and to all the DEC campaigns, they are more focused I suppose though..

SleepingSloth · 18/03/2019 20:41

I don't care where you give or don't give money to. But anyone actively trying to prevent others giving on the night it was on.....just disgusting.

TalkinPaece · 18/03/2019 20:43

Colour
I donate directly to individual charities who are small enough to notice my gift of money / time / skills
or I join groups that work on issues I choose to support
I never give money to the big umbrella groups

Que ?

Colourpencils · 18/03/2019 20:46

Sleeping sloth I totally agree, posters just ripping apart people's effort to raise money to help others. So easy to sneer and criticise isn't it...

Colourpencils · 18/03/2019 20:47

Talkin I'm torn between bigger, established groups and smaller, lesser known ones. It's a bit of a conundrum.
