Dishwasher - Yay or Nay?

Do you regret your dishwasher or do you love it?

It's just DS10 and I and it feels like a bit of a luxury but I really want one.

Is this pure laziness?

I hate them. I hate trying to fit everything in, I hate emptying them, I hate the fact that so many of them leave dishes wet or dirty. I hate the dishwasher taste.

However, my hate of dishes on the side is making me consider getting one. However, it would only fit in one space and it could only be slimline. I find when I’ve cooked a proper meal I can’t fit all the pots in a full size one, so I’m wondering if it’s even worth getting a slimline?!

If I get one, it’ll be the slimline NEFF with the top cutlery tray.

AvocadoDream · 15/03/2019 21:57

Yay!!! I love mine. Got Miele with a cutlery tray, thank you Mumsnet.

You can wash stainless steel pots and pans in it, it’s big enough.

Bluebuckle · 15/03/2019 21:58

I ripped mine out when the kitchen was redone, I don't miss it!

I hate loading and unloading it but hate washing up more so on balance I love mine!

Couldn't do without one.

HotChocolateLover · 15/03/2019 22:00

Love mine! I was going to have an extra cupboard when we had our new kitchen but DH was desperate for a dishwasher. So glad I agreed as it’s fab and is used everyday.

anniehm · 15/03/2019 22:01

They are brilliant, but it depends on what you are sacrificing for the space

GlitterPixie · 15/03/2019 22:03

Definitely Yay! Get one

HeronLanyon · 15/03/2019 22:03

oonthat made me laugh. Recently lost my ma (also cremated) - ive not yet used ‘she’d turn in her grave’ - when I do I can see a funny side !

TiredTodayZzzz · 15/03/2019 22:04

I don't have one. No space or money for a dishwasher. I move house and there is no space there either. I really want a counter top one but they are so expensive.

I absolutely HATE doing the dishes. I hate having to scrub pots with stubborn a marks. I feel like all I ever do is wash dishes. Hate hate hate......I wish for a dishwasher.

Hazeintheclouds · 15/03/2019 22:05

Yay.

UnicornRainbowsRain · 15/03/2019 22:05

Love it. Would prefer to have two so one getting stacked and one on Grin

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/03/2019 22:07

Nothing like the dishwasher after a big celebratory meal. Just whack everything in and enjoy the festivities...

DonaldTramp · 15/03/2019 22:09

YES, YES, YES, YES, YES!
The only time in my life I've ever not had one is as a student. Wouldn't be without one. We are are family of four plus pets and I run it when it's full, which is daily. If there are only two of you, you will probably only need to do it every other day (or get a slimline one).
Don't feel guilty about it - it's not lazy, it's much more hygenic and actually saves energy and water compared to washing up by hand.

HappyMama01 · 15/03/2019 22:10

We live in a rented house with no dishwasher. I hate my life.

I told my hubby I wanted to move. Purely to have a dishwasher. He refuses. Sad

Geekster1963 · 15/03/2019 22:11

Yes! I was never that bothered about having one until we stayed in a holiday cottage with one, bought one as soon as we got home.

DivisionBelles · 15/03/2019 22:14

Wouldn't be without ours. We only have a small kitchen and a slimline dishwasher and had to sacrifice cupboard space to fit it in, but I would never go back to doing the dishes ever again.

Thewindsofchange · 15/03/2019 22:20

Love ours too. I waited for years for a kitchen with space for one.
Load it while kids are finishing their pudding. Whack it on, get kids to bed, come down, clean dishes. What's not to love.

HeronLanyon · 15/03/2019 22:22

donald ‘four plus pets made me laugh had sudden unbidden image of cats/dogs creating additional piles of dirty cutlery and wine glasses.

HeronLanyon · 15/03/2019 22:23

the love is so unconditional it almost feels cultish

IncrediblySadToo · 15/03/2019 22:25

We are are family of four plus pets

I think I’m going to regret asking this, but what do the ‘four pets’have to do with a dishwasher?

VelvetPineapple · 15/03/2019 22:31

I LOVE my dishwasher! No more dirty dishes on the bench - they all get hidden away. No smells either. No soaking and scrubbing - just whack them in the dishwasher. No arguing about whose turn it is or who dirtied the dishes and should therefore wash them. About 75% of our regular arguments immediately stopped on the day it was installed.

HeronLanyon · 15/03/2019 22:45

I’m hoping marriage counsellors and therapists, etc, have ’do you have a dishwasher?’ as one of their key questions.

BibbityBobbityEars · 15/03/2019 22:45

Pets = food and water bowls!

llangennith · 15/03/2019 22:47

Thought they were a self-indulgent luxury till I got one 30 years ago. Wouldn't be without one now.

LynetteScavo · 15/03/2019 22:48

I bloody love my dishwasher. And my washing machine.

I wouldn't want to live without either.
