Dishwasher - Yay or Nay?

Do you regret your dishwasher or do you love it?

It's just DS10 and I and it feels like a bit of a luxury but I really want one.

Is this pure laziness?

No regrets. On the rare occasions I’ve been without one it has felt like the end of the world.

Oliversmumsarmy · 15/03/2019 20:30

No.. can’t bear putting my hand in where there’s all that dirty stuff
So much easier to wash as you go along

That might work if you are the only one in the household but I have come back late at night before now (when we didn’t have a dishwasher) to find every pot pan and piece of cutlery used.
Just depressing having got in from work at 1am and everyone is asleep and there is a mountain of washing up.

Would rather give up my washing machine than my dishwasher

Her0utdoors · 15/03/2019 20:32

Not a moment of regret, and it cost an absolute fortune to get one to fit in our kitchen. Had to move the gas meter, the boiler and the soil pipe £££ ❤️❤️❤️.

I like washing up but don't always have time , never get the dishes and glasses as squeaky clean as the dishwasher can either , it's not a luxury now in the western world , everyone has them , go for it

RainbowMum11 · 15/03/2019 20:44

There's just me & DD - we have a slimline dishwasher & I'd hate not having one, especially at the moment when the most basic of household tasks are a real struggle for me.

wonkylegs · 15/03/2019 20:54

I wouldn't consider not having one
I did think that our Miele was an extravagance when we bought it but 10yrs down the line and it's more than earnt it's keep.

HeronLanyon · 15/03/2019 21:00

Never had one and never used one. This thread is making me a bit twitchy though . .
Never had a microwave either ! Hmmm

ooooohbetty · 15/03/2019 21:03

Looks like I'm the only person on here who doesn't miss having a dishwasher. When I had one I'd often just wash up by hand if it was just a few bits just to get rid of them. Moved somewhere with a tiny kitchen so no room and have never even wished I still had one.

TheNoodlesIncident · 15/03/2019 21:04

We have a slimline one. There are three of us and the cat, I can usually fill it daily.

Not only can you keep your kitchen tidier by putting your dirty dishes in it, you can also wash stuff like your oven racks in it, the remaining burnt on greb comes off quite easily while the racks are still hot. Happy days Smile

Travis1 · 15/03/2019 21:07

Only me and DH and I wouldn’t be without ours. We used to have piles and piles of dishes. Both lazy shites and wouldn’t do dishes until we had no clean plates 🙈 not an issue now 😂

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2019 21:07

It is a marriage soother
I load it up during the day and dh empties it in the morning
Not laziness at all
Keeps the stuff off the worktops

OhMyHolyCrap · 15/03/2019 21:24

Right - I am sold! Role on pay day!

I’m surprisingly quite tempted too having read the love (and very practical love) here

Borridge · 15/03/2019 21:29

Why are there so many people in a first world country without a dishwasher?

drunkenflamingo2 · 15/03/2019 21:31

Ours goes on every night without fail, full to the brim.

I wash up wooden boards and anything non stick but that's it.

I couldn't imagine life without it, I'd sooner give up my washing machine.

Strokethefurrywall · 15/03/2019 21:32

It shows the privilege of my life that I don't think I've ever not had one (either growing up or as an adult).

I don't mind washing up though and when DH is away I'll tend to wash up as I go but on the day to day with two kids and working full time, the dishwasher is filled and run every day without fail.

If you can afford one, go for it - you will absolutely not regret it.

OhMyHolyCrap · 15/03/2019 21:32

My poor mum would be turning in her grave if she knew I'm getting one ignoring the fact she was cremated

The next question is.... Which washing products to use with it?

OP posts:
VeniVidiViciTwice · 15/03/2019 21:32

I used to have one, don't anymore and oh my do I miss it! You won't regret getting one.

ColeHawlins · 15/03/2019 21:34

Why are there so many people in a first world country without a dishwasher?

Seriously?

There are thousands of children in this country without winter coats. Millions who can't buy a house.

Surely you can exercise some imagination about space, money, rental properties and spending priorities?

ColeHawlins · 15/03/2019 21:35

Which washing products to use with it?

Finish powerball quantum or Waitrose own brand.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/03/2019 21:37

Love mine, keeps the kitchen tidy as we just stack it when we’ve used cups/plates and put on at the end of the day.

Get one!

Ffsnosexallowed · 15/03/2019 21:38

Going against the grain. Had one. It broke. Didn't miss it. Got new kitchen, no dishwasher. Still don't miss it. Much prefer the extra cupboard space

screamifyouwant · 15/03/2019 21:40

Love mine , I've only had one a bit over 2 years . It's great in the evening I just stack all the dishes and switch it on before bed or the next morning. If I'm really lazy I don't even stack till the morning. The days of arguing who's washing up are gone .

Chlo1674 · 15/03/2019 21:41

One of the best purchases I ever made!

OvO · 15/03/2019 21:51

I moved house about 15 months ago and for the first time I have a dishwasher!

It was a huge hit for about 3 months, then another 3 of still liking it. But since then it’s hardly used.

I’d now rather have the cupboard space!

It’s so bloody annoying though as the previous owners who put it in clearly loved it (or never cooked) as the sink is tiny and there’s no draining area at all. Fuck sake. Stuck with stupid machine until we get that sorted.
