I don’t bank with them but they own TSB who I do bank with.
The number doesn’t match the Santander number on the website.

Also I don’t have that sort of money in my account Unless this is a credit card.
I don’t have a Santander CC.

100% a scam.

ihatethecold · 15/03/2019 12:38

I thought so. I get nervous because my first direct account and my mobile number were hacked before xmas. which was stressful to sort out.

I can't imagine they'll catch many people with that, it's so clearly a scam.

Does Santander own TSB?

I'd always recommend ringing your bank on your usual known and trusted number to check anything like this, or calling into a branch.

If you get a suspicious call supposedly from your bank, hang up and ring your trusted number using a different phone.

elasticfantastic · 15/03/2019 12:48

Definitely a scam. Don't ring that number. Usually if you go to your banks proper website there will be a place for you to report it.

ScreamingValenta · 15/03/2019 12:50

... or if you don't have a different phone, ring a friend or relative and speak to them before dialling your bank, to make sure the scammers aren't keeping your line open.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 15/03/2019 12:50

I reckon it's a scam.
What currency is Gbp?
Great British Pound?
Great Brexit Pounds?

elasticfantastic · 15/03/2019 12:51

Just googled the number... definitely a scam!

ihatethecold · 15/03/2019 13:01

Lol at great brexit pounds. 🤔

I've had these texts from my own bank and it wasn't a scam. Someone was trying to buy things online witj my bank details. So ring them back on the number you have for them and ask them to confirm.

KitKat1985 · 15/03/2019 13:12

I'm saying scam. I had a very simillar one recently claiming to be Natwest who I do bank with.

Notwiththeseknees · 15/03/2019 13:27

What is papal? Are you banking with the Bank of Rome?

KitKat1985 · 15/03/2019 13:27

You think whoever sent that text Crunch could have least made the effort to spell paypal correctly in the link to make it a bit more convincing. Lol! Grin

QuirkyQuark · 15/03/2019 13:49

I've had one, I was suspicious so I rang the normal number and they put me through to the fraud dept or whatever it is. And yes it was genuine and they wanted to go through a couple of transactions. My dd had one too that was genuine.

ihatethecold · 15/03/2019 14:20

I’ve had them from my bank (tsb)lots of times. They don’t look like this latest one. I don’t bank with Santander either.

elasticfantastic · 15/03/2019 14:53

If ever in doubt don't phone the number or click the link (especially don't click links... it's usually putting malware or cookies onto your device)

Contact the back or service via the normal way that you contact them and get it verified.

anniehm · 15/03/2019 15:15

I had a NatWest scam today, but it appeared to be from NatWest - scary. Luckily I know their real website address so I could immediately see it was fake

ScreamingValenta · 15/03/2019 16:13

When I had a genuine query on a transaction, my bank called on the landline. DH answered and sensibly said he would get me to phone back rather than give any details over the phone. When I called back on my mobile via the normal phone banking number, they commended DH's precautions.

FloodedCuticles · 15/03/2019 16:16

The fact that Gbp is not all in capitals is an easy giveaway.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 15/03/2019 16:21

Weirdly I had a very similar text recently - purporting to be from Barclays (not my bank) - and referring to a £2000 odd purchase from IKEA. It was certainly mildly fear inducing. I made myself late for a meeting while I phoned my own bank - who confirmed it absolutely was a scam.

Rachael204 · 15/03/2019 16:23

I had the lovely Emily telling me about this suspicious transaction today. So helpful!
