Ah help I’ve just dropped my phone on newborns head!

What do I do? She’s got a red mark now. I must have dropped it twelve inches from her face when she was in her Moses basket asleep.

She moved when it happened but stayed asleep

She’s 13 days old if that matters

She's fine - don't worry! Congrats on your new arrival xx

Changeychangeyname · 13/03/2019 23:31

Thank you! I’m all panicking as I’m worried I’ve caused some brain damage or something!

Bless her, I'm sure she'll be fine. I would just keep an eye on it, see if a bruise appears. Maybe mention it to your HV if you see them regularly.

Flowerydenimdress · 13/03/2019 23:32

She will be fine! If she had of been hurt, she would have woken up crying. You haven't done any lasting damage. Congrats on your newborn!

firsttimebabybirther · 13/03/2019 23:32

Relax , don't panic and prepare to laugh about it in a couple of months time.

congratulations btw Thanks

Changeychangeyname · 13/03/2019 23:33

Will she be ok overnight though?

Sorry she’s my first and I’m very PFB!

InflagranteDelicto · 13/03/2019 23:34

Could be worse. You could have immac'd or dyed her head. Look in classics 😁

pickledparsnip · 13/03/2019 23:35

Oh God I did this a few times. Felt like the worst Mum ever. DS now 9 and there doesn't appear to be any lasting damage Grin

Changeychangeyname · 13/03/2019 23:37

Thanks all!

So the fact she’s still asleep and didn’t wake up isn’t a concern l? I just took her out her basket and am holding her but I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight now!

Aww that's practically a parenting rite of passage.

Ah help I’ve just dropped my phone on newborns head!
Ashana · 13/03/2019 23:42

Don't worry, she will be fine. It's normal to feel extra anxious about everything with your first. Try to get some sleep.

Changeychangeyname · 13/03/2019 23:45

Thanks all!

I’m too scared to tell DH as he’s probably more PFB than me so hoping she’ll be ok. She’s been stirring in her sleep so I guess she’s fine. The red mark is going already.

I did just drop my phone onto my head from a height so see how it would have hurt Grin

How's your phone btw?
No seriously accidents happen & babies are quite tough. If it's any consolation I accidentally managed to bang PFB DD's head on a beam (I forgot we were underneath it) when we were dancing & I lifted her up a bit too quick at 6 months old. I cried more than DD did as I was so distraught. I took her to the Doctors for a check up convinced I'd damaged her for life & she was absolutely fine.
If it would make you feel better you could ring 111 or OOHS just for peace of mind.
Anyway congratulations on your baby.

BitOfAKerfuffle · 13/03/2019 23:46

She will be just fine OP. It's normal to panic as well. Even with DC2 we were at football practice with DC1 and sat on a bench on the sidelines with newborn dc (about 2 weeks old) feeding and a child accidently kicked the ball a bit too hard in our direction and it hit newborn DC on the back of the head and left a massive red mark. i was so worried and ended up going to a&e incase it had caused a brain injury. There was absolutely no issue, baby totally fine and i laugh about it now although at the time i certainly didn't find it funny !

WombOfOnesOwn · 13/03/2019 23:47

Wait until she's at 10-15 months old, the stage my husband and I call "peak headbump." The day the old bruises clear up, some new injury is inflicted, it's hard to keep up with the various damages a baby can do to its head without impacting the brain at all!

My sister is a medical professional who said that if the baby doesn't lose consciousness, need stitches, or have a visibly deformed skull from the impact, there's no need for emergency treatment.

NorthernLurker · 13/03/2019 23:51

Bless you op, welcome to motherhood. Dropping the phone on your head to test impact is top quality anxious mothering! Smile
She will be fine, she didn't wake because it didn't hurt her. Try and get some sleep when she settles later.

lboogy · 13/03/2019 23:52

😂 I've done this a couple of times. They are so wiggly and it's worse when they move when you're not expecting it. She's totally fine so don't worry

SleepingStandingUp · 13/03/2019 23:56

DH changed DS's nappy on the changing table and somehow banged him head on the wood. DS cried. Dhcame down with baby Inn a panic. I cried. DS had stopped crying.
We got a taxi and took him to PAUto be checked over. This ws quite late at night. Thry very sweetly humoured us!

Now he's 3and clumsy and I grow his hairong to hide the ever present bruises on his head!!

Congratulations on the new baby OP

fullprice · 13/03/2019 23:58

I couldn’t help laughing quite a lot at the image of you dropping a phone on your head to test out how much it hurts!!
Bless you. My little one is older than yours and this week he cracked his head on a table. I cried more than him! They heal so so fast. I’m sure she is fine.
Congratulations and enjoy!

Changeychangeyname · 14/03/2019 00:04

Thanks everyone. Feeling a bit calmer although she’s on her back but laying on that side of her face so I can’t see the mark

@fullprice - I’m laughing at myself now Grin

quizqueen · 14/03/2019 00:06

Put your phone away and enjoy your baby!

Changeychangeyname · 14/03/2019 00:08

@quizqueen - I was so in awe of her as she looked so beautiful asleep so I went to take a picture, that’s how I dropped the phone on her
