Seeking Hand Hold/ Reassurance!

34+1 have been admitted to antenatal ward as suspected I am in early labour. IVF baby (not sure if relevant!). DH has had to go home and I feel anxious as I am not sure what to expect now.
The monitoring machine is reporting contraction type tightenings and I do feel some discomfort but I don’t feel like I need any pain relief.
Does anyone have any similar stories they can share or even just a hand hold really. I am fortunate that I have never had an overnight hospital stay so I feel anxious.

Congratulations Grin

Congrats OP. Hope she's doing ok for being a bit early?

pombear I love that quote!

MidnightLavender · 15/03/2019 08:19

Thank you!
She is in an incubator to help her keep warm and is struggling to latch as she is so tiny but we are getting there.
She is going through so much stuff especially baby vests!! I thought she’s be ok with 2-3 a day... maybe not!

I am worried to do a wee now that I have had my catheter out Blush!!!

You'll be fine with doing a wee - I was the same but I was pleasantly surprised.

It was going for a poo that was the worst bit for me. I'd much rather my 40hr labour, episiotomy and forceps than go through the first poo again! Lactulose is your friend Grin

You should be ok but you could try having a wee in a bath of water - it mightn't sound very nice but I know midwives sometimes recommend doing it that way for the first wee. 🙂

Congratulations, OP. So happy for your good news, and best of luck.

ninibear · 15/03/2019 19:34

Congrats!! So very happy for you.

Mine is 5 months old and it feels like yesterday that she was born!

Get some warm water to splash onto your lady bits as you wee, to help prevent any stinging.

Breastfeeding takes some time to get going and if there's any pain at all do get support. I found it to be an acquired skill for both mum and baby so don't worry if it's not as straightforward as it seems.

Welcome to motherhood Thanks

Great news! Congratulations!

MidnightLavender · 16/03/2019 12:01

Thank you everyone! I am currently in the bath on the ward and it’s fab! I just wonder if my lady bits will ever be the same again! Hmmm! Grin

When are you going home?

Strugglingonagain · 16/03/2019 17:20

How's baby doing? When will you be allowed home? You're doing fab!

MidnightLavender · 17/03/2019 05:42

I don’t think I will be allowed home for another few days now maybe Wednesday. She is in the best place there is no point just going home for her to need more support and be back here in a few days. She has been under the jaundice lights and hoping she will be out of them today. Her temperature is also rising nicely so hoping she is out of the incubator.

I am going stir crazy being inside and sleeping on a ward with random women. I seem to be attracting the ones who don’t wash/ smoke/ chat on their phones all night/ snore loudly haha!!

I had to stay in a week with DS but luckily had my own room. 😉

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 17/03/2019 07:18

Huge congratulations, have you decided on a name for her yet?

Borntobeamum · 17/03/2019 08:16

Massive congratulations! I'm currently in hospital after colon cancer surgery on Monday and it seems as if the whole of my world is revolving around when I will pooh!
My baby granddaughter arrived in a very similar way to your daughter last January and is so bright and quick, she makes her older brother look like the village idiot!!! X
