I am so out of touch with the modern world it's embarrassing.

A couple of weeks ago I read something about a celebrity who had 'slid into somebody's DMs, I didn't think much of it, didn't read the article and moved on.
A few days later I saw a similarly titled article and thought Crikey what is it with people borrowing other people's boots.
Saw it again and decided to read it as I couldn't fathom why boot snaffling was such a thing. Grin
Obviously I now realise I am a complete berk who needs to get down with all this modern stuff. Confused

I don't know what DMs isConfused

ScreamingValenta · 13/03/2019 17:26

Same here. I haven't Googled so don't have a clue what that means. DM = Doc Martens, but I mentally live in 1992.

alwaysncxx · 13/03/2019 17:26

Direct messages

hell0mell0 · 13/03/2019 17:27

I have no idea what you are on about....but I do get Doc Marten's.......somebody enlighten me (ha!)

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 13/03/2019 17:28

Oh thank God it's not just me.

Direct messaging someone on a social network such as Instagram or twitter etc

shitpark · 13/03/2019 18:03

Direct message. Sending a direct message. Not direct messaging.

bliminy · 13/03/2019 18:11

I'm a social media manager for a living, and I still read the OP and thought 'Doc Martens'.

HelmutFrontbut · 13/03/2019 18:23

Oh I'm so glad you posted this OP! I keep hearing that Juice song on the radio and wonder what the hell that line 'he got lost in my DMs' is all about BlushBlushBlush

EverybodysTalkingAtMe · 13/03/2019 18:25

I think sliding into someone's DMs is going from posting publicly on their fb or Insta page to suddenly sending them private messages for a more intimate exchange.

HeritageCarrot · 13/03/2019 18:30

I feel so on trend now. Am 58 and actually know what sliding into someone’s DMs means. I don’t know how I know - no longer around the age group who’d come out with this, but there we go.

ThinkOfAWittyNameLater · 13/03/2019 18:31

I have no idea what song you're talking about but I feel quite happy that I've learned something new today.

Sliding into DMs ...

ssd · 13/03/2019 18:33

I only recently learned what patching someone meant

You are not alone op

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 13/03/2019 18:34

I don't know what that is either.

OP posts:
Littlepond · 13/03/2019 18:35

Why do you slide? That’s weird.

Singlenotsingle · 13/03/2019 18:36

Patching?

Bluntness100 · 13/03/2019 18:38

Sliding into someone's dms is sliding into someone's shoes, it refers to doc martins, not direct messages,

BiggFactHunt · 13/03/2019 18:40

When I was at secondary school my friend was saying her brother was going to buy some Caterpillars for £200.
“£200! Said I. But they might die the next day!”
I never even knew Caterpillar boots were a thing.

MissionItsPossible · 13/03/2019 18:50

Sliding into DMs, shook, mood, lit, all the feels, ugh, hate them all. It’s not me getting older, it’s the standard of journalism slipping, that’s my excuse anyway and I’m sticking to it.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 13/03/2019 18:52

I know what a DM is but I've never heard about sliding into them (what does that mean??)

MissionItsPossible · 13/03/2019 18:55

Slide as in smoothly

Jenniferyellowcat · 13/03/2019 19:00

Sliding into someone’s DMs means direct messaging someone? That’s frigging ridiculous. It’s definitely putting someone’s doc martens on.

LuxuryWoman2018 · 13/03/2019 19:01

My dd is shook that Tan and Jim have split. Proper shook.

????????

ssd · 13/03/2019 19:07

Patching means ignoring someone or something

I'm chuffed I'm up there with the kids 😂😂😂

Elledouble · 13/03/2019 19:09

I thought that was what it meant for a while too! Then suddenly had an epiphany about Direct Messages and felt very stupid!
