Cornedbeef hash with garlic

FullOnMonet1975 · 13/03/2019 17:18

Just mentioned to my very traditional DF that I put garlic in cornedbeef hash. He nearly had an heart attack & went all Peter Kay on me. Anyone else put garlic in CBH? Smile

NO fucking way. I bet you put mushrooms in as well.

FullOnMonet1975 · 13/03/2019 17:21

Lol ... mushrooms? I'm not a mentalist Grin

No ‘cos that would be weird.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 13/03/2019 17:24

No... weirdo Grin

FullOnMonet1975 · 13/03/2019 17:25

Try it ... it's a game changer. Just add a couple of whole cloves in when boiling the potatoes & onions then just mash it altogether. It's really nice Grin

Not happening, and now I know who to never invite to my made up CBH club.

Imacliche · 13/03/2019 17:33

Youve single handedly sullied the good hash name.

Utter filth

ZaZathecat · 13/03/2019 17:36

Yanbu, garlic improves everything.

gobbynorthernbird · 13/03/2019 17:36

I think the thread title needs a trigger warning.

InMyBloodstainedSundaysBest · 13/03/2019 17:37

Could one of you post a recipe? I've tried to make it a few times and it's always been grim. Annoying as it sounds tasty Confused

SpoonBlender · 13/03/2019 17:46

You're all mad apart from OP. Garlic is necessary to cut the icky lard taste of the corned beef. Stinky-breathers unite in better taste!

GrumpyOlderBloke · 13/03/2019 17:52

Garlic on its own? Nah.

Garlic and Ginger however.......

Garlic is like Bacon. All Food is improved by its addition - with the possible exception of ice cream.

ArgusFilchsCat · 13/03/2019 17:56

Omg I now want CBH (misses point of thread). But no to Garlic, it would clash with the HP sauce, surely? Wink

isseywithcats · 13/03/2019 17:59

no have never put garlic in corned beef hash theres enough flavour in it already

PineappleTart · 13/03/2019 18:03

I adore garlic but it has no place in a good corned beef hash

isseywithcats · 13/03/2019 18:03

for the person who asked how to make this is my recipe, cut potatoes into chunks and boil , mash with plenty of butter salt and pepper to taste, while the potatoes are cooking slice onions or leeks and gently fry in butter till tender, add sliced chestnut mushrooms to this mix. cut the corned beef into cubes, mix all the ingredients together put into an oven proofed dish and cook in the oven at 180 till the potatoes go brown and crispy about 45 minutes serve with brown or bbq sauce

ginghambox · 13/03/2019 18:07

leeks and gently fry in butter till tender, add sliced chestnut mushrooms
FFS.

Soontobe60 · 13/03/2019 18:20

The poncy recipe posted above is just wrong!
Chop peeled spuds into chunks, chop a couple of carrots and slice a big white onion. Boil all together in salted water until veg is cooked. Mix Bisto POWDER ( not granules which is a very different beast) with cold water, add to the pan, boil up until thickened. Cut up a tin of good corned beef into chunks, add to the pan and stir well. Add pepper if you must. Leave to boil for a coup,e of minutes until you have a bit stuck to the bottom of the pan. This is the best bit!
Put a thickly buttered slice of bread in the bottom of a bowl, pour over the hash, add some HP sauce and eat with a spoon.
Always make too much to have next day fried up with a fried egg on the top.

PCohle · 13/03/2019 18:23

Adding leeks and mushrooms sounds delicious

Whynham · 13/03/2019 18:26

Dunno, depends how fancy I'm feeling at the time. We had hash made with sweet potatoes, red cabbage, leeks and burger meat the other night using up the stuff in the fridge

isseywithcats · 13/03/2019 18:29

to the person who called me ponsy i love leeks and chestnut potatoes and dont like the wet version my mom always did the baked version and thats what i grew up with and i have always cooked it that way and try it its yummy

Grumpbum123 · 13/03/2019 18:32
