Well, I say real life, I mean in person.

I'll start Grin

Eat excessive amounts of food without considering the calories

Let their DC off school for holidays

Wear leggings or Uggs

Let their children play 18+ games in Year 6/7

Yeah, what is it with people not opening the door. Seriously odd although there was that Luther episode that scared the shit out of me

Shortandsweet96 · 10/03/2019 21:48

@Sparklingbrook we have someone like that in our area called ovenpig, your tempting me to make the call!

ChippyMinton · 10/03/2019 21:48

Leave the DC with the in laws and go away with their partner.
Leave DC with partner and go away with their mates.

I was going to say I never experience helicopter parenting but that’s not true. Seen some cracking examples today.

Also, let the DC gone away and revel in the freedom Grin

ChippyMinton · 10/03/2019 21:51

*go. (Sorry, mine were away this weekend and DH and I were giddy at the prospect of an empty house)

Warmhandscoldheart · 10/03/2019 21:51

Know how to read a pregnancy test
Have a toilet brush

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2019 21:51

Do it Short. Grin

sheskilledmyplant · 10/03/2019 21:53

Put bleach down my toilet

Got all of my dd's ears pierced as babies

Wing dinners every night

Cut my grass in February

Love baby showers/ hen nights

Dress my little girls the same occasionally

Leave my washing on the line overnight

ChippyMinton · 10/03/2019 21:55

Give their DC top 10 popular names
Or conversely, extremely indivual names.

Shortandsweet96 · 10/03/2019 21:56

I didn't vote for Brexit Shock

Disney2 · 10/03/2019 21:56

Don't rigidly police what books children read.

Ellapaella · 10/03/2019 21:57

Have a drink or two at home while the kids are upstairs sleeping - dreadful parenting apparently because what if one of the kids got taken ill and you couldn't drive them to hospital because you'd had a drink? God forbid...

Apparently leopard print and skinny jeans are deeply unstylish and passé even though every single high street shop you walk past is bursting to the brim full of animal print and skinny jeans.

Disney2 · 10/03/2019 21:59

Allow people to visit less than a month after giving birth. If I told my family/friends not to visit for a month after giving birth they'd think I'd either lost my mind and worry about my sanity or be incredibly annoyed at my rudeness. Probably both Grin

bluddleuddleumdum · 10/03/2019 22:02

I didn't vote for Brexit Hallelujah

Change my sheets whenever I bloody well like. Days, weeks, months......

wanderings · 10/03/2019 22:03

I don't know anyone who's actually cancelled their child's birthday party, because they threatened to do so in a moment of anger, and then had no choice but to "follow through".

Likewise, I've never met anyone who has a morbid fear of people who "would give my DD a Noah's Ark toy, believe in a sky fairy, and might indoctrinate my children"; how some MNers perceive people who go to church.

MidwifeyForLifey · 10/03/2019 22:05

Ahh yes, I use loads of bleach. And Zoflora Blush

I can't claim to eat Steak Bakes from Greggs. I'm really disappointed none of you seem to know their Cheese and Onion pasties is where it's at

Oh, and the old chestnut: some people in the real world let workmen use their toilet. Some people on MN would send them out to find a public one (rare as hens' teeth in some places).

And I'm sure not everyone talks about poo as much as it is talked about on Mumsnet.

nombrecambio · 10/03/2019 22:10

Where do you put your bathroom rubbish if you don't have a bin? ... I don't fancy walking round the house with hands full of contact lens packets, tampax wrappers, empty toilet rolls, toothpaste tubes...

I often enjoy a large glass of wine in the evening without the fear that I'll need to take a child to hospital.

MidwifeyForLifey · 10/03/2019 22:10

Visit McDonalds

A while back I posted 'What shall I get from McDonald's for breakfast?' And a swarm of angry MNetters gave me a good telling off! Loading on how many calories, how bad it all is, etc etc. I was rather taken aback.

OP posts:
hdh747 · 10/03/2019 22:12

Have a loo brush
And a bathroom bin (what is the alternative to this?)
And instant coffee
Don't tell people to get a grip (don't do in on MN either)
Drink port and lemonade out of mismatched glasses
Eat cold mushy peas

ChippyMinton · 10/03/2019 22:13

I love the McDonalds threads because I actually don’t know anyone in real life that orders, for example, nuggets on the side or milkshake and a McFlurry together! It’s always a straightforward burger fries and a drink.

MidwifeyForLifey · 10/03/2019 22:13

nomb Good question. I'm a frantic cleaner (I really enjoy it as well as like the look of
very clean/tidy), and this is something I'm considering, getting a bathroom bin.

I currently do a daily clean around and have little clear bags that I put my bathroom rubbish in (bits I've used for cleaning).

I'm one of those odd Mooncup ladies (Christ, a real MNetter Grin), so I don't have any sanitary products to dispose of. DC's nappies if changes upstairs get put in a nappy bag and then brought down. Can't think of anything I'd use a bathroom bin for in general, but it's really getting on my tits using one of these little bags every day so I'm considering getting one.

Things people on MN don't like/do that seems popular in real life!

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2019 22:14

The alternative is not to have a bathroom bin apparently. And sod any visitors who might need to use one.
They must put it either in their handbag or traipse to the wheelie bin outside from what I can gather. Confused

Eggstatic · 10/03/2019 22:15

Leave the oven chips for another day, pack DC into the car and go to McDonald's

SingaSong12 · 10/03/2019 22:15

Non MN I do

  • I have a toilet brush, didn’t know till this thread that a bathroom bin was unusual- I have one of them too
  • using bleach
  • eating ready meals

Other things I notice

  • children having maybe one activity a week rather than something every evening and sport at the weekend
  • the snacks I see children (and adults) eating - a lot more chocolate and less fruit than you might imagine from MN
