Shitty few days here so dinner tomorrow night is slow cooked garlic and chilli Bolognese with cheesy pasta.

What's your favourite comfort dish?

Potato wedges: scrub some huge potatoes and slice them into thick chunks. Toss them in olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and oregano. Season well and roast for about 40 minutes. If you're feeling daring add some Chinese 5 spice... YUM

Shepherds pie

Ellieboolou27 · 07/03/2019 19:21

That sounds lovely sneaky
Mines a fry up. bacon very well done with crispy fat, fried eggs, tinned tomatoes and thick white toast with loads of butter.

Two slices of bread. Crusts cut off. Pour milk over them. Add cheddar cheese slices. Splash milk over cheese.

Microwave until cheese has melted and bread underneath is hot.

Drizzle marmite over cheese and add salted and roasted cashew nuts.

I call it my comfort hedgehog food. Its hot, salty, creamy, soft, crunchy and comforting.

Slowknitter · 07/03/2019 19:25

Lasagne. Shame I can't be bothered to make it. Oh also, macaroni cheese (preferably Valentine Warner's posh version).

winterinmadeira · 07/03/2019 19:28

Scrambled eggs on toast. With lots of butter and salt.

Meet0nTheledge · 07/03/2019 19:29

Egg and chips. Thin, crunchy fries, not fat chips.

Titsywoo · 07/03/2019 19:34

Yes to scrambled eggs on toast. I use pane puglese bread from crosta mollica which is chewy and a bit crunchy when toasted. The eggs are just quickly scrambled in proper butter until they are still slightly runny. Delicious!

SquareTriangle · 07/03/2019 19:34

When I'm feeling down or a bit under the weather, I always seem to crave Heinz tomato soup with white bread and butter.

ScaremCarem · 07/03/2019 19:37

Definitely eggs. Boiled with solicited or poached on toast or scrambled with brown toast and smoked salmon.

Or cream of tomato soup. The M&S one is the absolute bollocks.

BlueMerchant · 07/03/2019 19:39

Spaghetti carbonara....

Millie2013 · 07/03/2019 19:43

I’m ill and OH works away, so this week, my mum has cooked me cheese and onion cakes (like fish cakes), veggie “sausage” rolls (cheese, breadcrumbs, onion and various other things, with amazing buttery pastry) and fried rice drizzled with hoi sun sauce. I bought her some of her favourite chocolates to thank her!

If I’m cooking my own comfort food, it’s tiger bread, toasted with seasalt butter or mashed potato and branston beans

TrainSong · 07/03/2019 19:44

For the family: spaghetti bolognese, UK style with minced beef and passata and veg. For me: penne all'arrabiata.

DC have both had a really hard week at school with some disappointments, so I made them a strawberry Victoria sponge with whipped cream. It really cheered them up,

jomaIone · 07/03/2019 19:45

@palomino WTF?? That sounds horrendous. how did you even come up with that???

Mine is a big dirty Chinese and ice cold white wine.

Or nachos with too much cheese and guacamole

Jamhandprints · 07/03/2019 19:45

Sponge pudding and custard.

SneakyGremlins · 07/03/2019 19:47

@Millie2013 I don't suppose there's a recipe for those cheese and onion cakes? Grin

Macaroni cheese that I haven't had to make! Dh makes it really lovely but doesn't often cook, plus I'm on a diet!!

HeyMicky · 07/03/2019 19:58

Tortellini in brodo con panna, lots of grated parmesan and black pepper

Also, tinned mince and onion on toast - reminds me of rainy childhood days
