What would you think if you saw a middle aged woman roller skating down the street?

Honestly? My finger is hovering on the buy button. I see grown men flying along the street on skateboards and scooters but can't say I ever see adults on roller skates. I was a 70's kid, loved roller skating and teens were spent hanging out at the local roller disco. My first pair of skates were those metal adjustable ones that you strapped onto your normal shoes Grin. Then I got 'proper' skates, blue suede with rainbow stripes which I would still have had my brother not found them in my parents garage and sold them at a carboot Angry. Back then we just skated on the roads as there were hardly any cars, not even sure you're allowed to skate on pavements Confused. Anyway have a hankering to take it up again, mainly for fitness trying to keep my arse up where it belongs , I went ice-skating for the first time in years recently and picked it up again no problem, balance and coordination good so what's the verdict? Am i going to look like a twat?

I have a couple of relatives who are late 30s to early 40s who rollerskate, including in public and I think it is fantastic. They have found certain places with good surfaces and don't just go down random streets.

Roller skating as a whole has taken off again in popularity, they go to a couple of clubs and lessons along with their DC.

Roller Derby on the other hand is to be avoided, very violent and another young relative broke her femur.

pickletickled · 03/03/2019 14:52

I'd feel jealous. I had a go of my nieces a little while back and almost broke my neck. Blush

TrySinging · 03/03/2019 14:54

I'd think she was awesome! Do it!

megletthesecond · 03/03/2019 14:57

Jealous and give you a little (silent) cheer.

justchecking1 · 03/03/2019 14:59

I skate round my estate a lot. I'm 41. I used to play roller derby and it's great exercise

Rockbird · 03/03/2019 15:02

I'd think good for you!

I'm another one who lived on roller and ice skates when I was younger but suspect I'd break my arse if I put them on these days. I'm feeling brave just contemplating a bike! Go for it!

Loyaultemelie · 03/03/2019 15:04

I'd think I hate you good for you. My recent reunion with ice skating has resulted in a full leg cast and badly broken knee.

MitziK · 03/03/2019 15:06

I'd be thinking 'fucking Roller Derby must be training around the corner again'.

Processedpea · 03/03/2019 15:08

I'd worry about you breaking your hipWink

WTBE · 03/03/2019 15:09

I would look out for cameras, as obviously you are in a sanitary towel commercial Grin

Joking Op, im 26 and would think ah sweeeet i wonder if shel let me have a go!

burbleburble · 03/03/2019 15:11

Friends (with children!) went to a roller rink recently. They tell me that inline skates are actually much easier to use than traditional roller skates with a wheel in each corner. The rink had both, so you might be able to try before you buy?

Craftycorvid · 03/03/2019 15:14

I’d think I was in Glastonbury Grin Once saw a woman in tiara, ballgown and skates combo’ on Glasto high street, and, I mean, why not?

Stickmanslittleleaf · 03/03/2019 15:26

We live on a massive hill in a very hilly part of London so I'd tut at you skating down the pavement, in the road I'd want to scream 'go girl!' At you but also worry (very briefly) for your safety as I do with all the lunatic skateboarders I see here.
In the park I'd think nothing of it, if you looked like you were having fun I'd wish I was doing it too but if you were just powering along I'd be more worried about what kids/ dog were doing and probably not notice. Go for it, why not?

twilightcafe · 03/03/2019 15:28

I'd give you a high-five.
And secretly hope you were wearing wrist and knee protectors.

CocoLoco87 · 03/03/2019 15:36

I would be half jealous and half thinking about the accident somewhere in London where a young man roller bladed into a pedestrian and left her with life changing injuries. He was going too fast on the road with no ability to stop himself. Not wanting to dampen your zest for life...

DaedricLordSlayer · 03/03/2019 15:42

I would would admire your gusto.

I need to buy some now Grin I lived in my roller skates in the 80s. mine were black with red laces and red, yellow and blue rainbow on.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 03/03/2019 15:58

i used to rollerskate like a demon! I never hurt myself but I do think it's why i am good at falling iyswim!

Go for it...what's the worst that can happen??

MrsJBaptiste · 03/03/2019 16:18

Mid life crisis?

origamiunicorn · 03/03/2019 16:33

Mid life crisis?

Why? Because once you hit a certain age you have to hide away and not enjoy yourself? We really are our own worst enemies. You go for it OP, enjoy yourself, do what makes you happy Smile

Ratbagcatbag · 03/03/2019 16:33

I'd think you were awesome.
I'm heading back to my rollerskating club. I'm not brilliant but I can do it, and go fast!! This has inspired me to do it again!!

TartanTexan · 03/03/2019 16:39

How long does it take to learn how to do it again without fear? Smile

NoWordForFluffy · 03/03/2019 17:04

I wouldn't think too much about you doing it (unless you were doing it dangerously and putting other road / pavement users at risk, then I'd think you were a twat).

However, given the state of many paths and roads, I'd assume that you were on a fast track for an A&E visit!
