What would you think if you saw a middle aged woman roller skating down the street?

Honestly? My finger is hovering on the buy button. I see grown men flying along the street on skateboards and scooters but can't say I ever see adults on roller skates. I was a 70's kid, loved roller skating and teens were spent hanging out at the local roller disco. My first pair of skates were those metal adjustable ones that you strapped onto your normal shoes Grin. Then I got 'proper' skates, blue suede with rainbow stripes which I would still have had my brother not found them in my parents garage and sold them at a carboot Angry. Back then we just skated on the roads as there were hardly any cars, not even sure you're allowed to skate on pavements Confused. Anyway have a hankering to take it up again, mainly for fitness trying to keep my arse up where it belongs , I went ice-skating for the first time in years recently and picked it up again no problem, balance and coordination good so what's the verdict? Am i going to look like a twat?

That she's exercising?

Less odd than seeing adults on scooters, but I actually see them a lot. Parents use them after they've dropped dc at school who went in on them.

BearSoFair · 03/03/2019 13:58

I'd think good on you! I used to inline skate but had to stop for months after badly spraining my ankle (not while skating!) and never got back into it. Strange how you can lose confidence in your ability to do something so quickly!

AlanThePig · 03/03/2019 13:59

I didn't have the coordination to skate at 14 so to see you doing it at 40 I'd be insanely jealous and very impressed.

elQuintoConyo · 03/03/2019 14:00

As long as you aren't doing a Frank Spencer and hanging off the back of a bus Grin

I'd try chasing you up the street to ask if I could join you!

GregoryPeckingDuck · 03/03/2019 14:01

I would think that was so awesome.

userxx · 03/03/2019 14:02

Just do it! What's the worst that can happen apart from breaking your hip 😈

tabulahrasa · 03/03/2019 14:02

Well I’d think she can clearly skate better than me...

I’ve beeb going to classes and I can still only turn corners in one direction never mind skate outside, rofl

TalkinPeece · 03/03/2019 14:03

Define "middle aged"
I am fitter and leaner now in my 50's than I was in my 30s

therefore things like roller skating and wall climbing and go ape are just the way life is for people my age

friends in their 70's do BodyCombat every week
good on them

OhioOhioOhio · 03/03/2019 14:03

I'd be jealous. Do it. Sounds amazing.

Littlebird88 · 03/03/2019 14:07

I would think " wow thats great ..wish it were me '
go for it

AlbertWinestein · 03/03/2019 14:09

I roller skate with my teens at a local
Roller rink a couple of times a month. I was rubbish at it at 14 and am still rubbish at it at 45, but it’s a lot of fun.

Bearberry · 03/03/2019 14:10

I recently got a scooter as my dd (nearly 3 is obsessed with hers) is very fast on hers so it means I can keep up. My DH takes his skateboard too so I was left walking behind. The scooter is the best fun ever and I really couldn’t care less what anyone thought. Go for it!

PottyPotterer · 03/03/2019 14:11

I think having a go at the local roller rink first sounds like a good idea. Never thought about starting a group but having others to skate with would definitely make me feel less self concious so something to think about. Thanks for all the feedback and encouragement.

I'd think it was amazing and how I would want to do that

Koalablue · 03/03/2019 14:12

There is a middle aged woman who skates down my road regularly. Proper speed demon she is too.
The only thing i think is "wish i could do that"

MamaLovesMango · 03/03/2019 14:13

I’d think:

FUCK YEAH!!!!!

Babygrey7 · 03/03/2019 14:14

I bought roller blades in the 90s, still have them, maybe I should dust them off

It's fun, wish I could skate indoor somewhere

StarLadyQuill · 03/03/2019 14:15

As a 20something year old I know I'd think "What a boss" and "I hope I'm that confident and free if I'm lucky enough to get to middle age".

As my 13 year old sister would say, YOLO.

MamaLovesMango · 03/03/2019 14:18

My DH skates on his 90s rollerblades with DD at the park. I really like the idea of some retro roller skate fun but alas, my gross motor skills are so shocking, I’d definitely to some damage Sad

m0therofdragons · 03/03/2019 14:24

I'd say - that's my kind of friend! I got roller skates for my last birthday and go skating once a month at the local roller disco with dc. Love it!

stayathomegardener · 03/03/2019 14:26

I went to a roller rink on my 40th birthday with Dd.

To be fair we used to go weekly.

Very good for fitness.

I would say 1. Wear wrist guards and 2. If outside the slightest small stone and you will be over (or loose dog🙄)

sizzledrizz · 03/03/2019 14:31

I'd be worried about safety, other people's and your's. I've seen a couple of people veer into the road to avoid pedestrians. I don't think they're as safe as scooters

Lemonsquinky · 03/03/2019 14:31

Inspired by this I'm thinking about getting a hula hoop. My dcs are too old to go to the park and I miss the swings. I can't get a pair of roller skates as my balance is dreadful. I think you should go for it.

oscarmayaweiner · 03/03/2019 14:41

I have a pair (42nd birthday present) !

userxx · 03/03/2019 14:46

I'm wondering if my dad still has my roller skates in the garage somewhere, blue ones with big red stoppers. Such fun.
