Just tailgating from a thread ive just read.

Do you open your windows and keep them open all day?

Most mornings as am doing the housework I will open most windows even in the depth of winter and keep them open all day if i dont open them for a day or so the place just isnt as fresh. Although when we had the snow they didnt stay open quite all day Grin

yes, in my bedroom, but not really anywhere else.

bellinisurge · 03/03/2019 07:53

If I'm in all day they stay open until it gets dark. One in our room stays open all night. If I have been out , opening windows is one of the first things I do.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 03/03/2019 07:55

Yep. Postman threw 2 parcels through yesterday instead of me having to go to sorting office 🤣 made me laugh but loved it haha. Only the top small window of course, not the big ones.

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/03/2019 07:57

The bedroom window is locked open nearly all of the time. The bathroom window is probably open about 75% of the time. In the summer when there is no heating on lots of windows are open lots of the time. No fancy heating system here though.

onestitchaway · 03/03/2019 07:59

Yes our bedroom stays open constantly. Even if just ajar.

exLtEveDallas · 03/03/2019 08:02

Not in the winter. In the summer, yes, bedrooms all day, downstairs only when we are in the house.

In the winter only on odd occasions.

BatsAreCool · 03/03/2019 08:02

No they stay closed most of the time. We do have trickle vents in them all which are left open all the time and we get ventilation from them as they cause the blinds to move when windy.

berrybubbles · 03/03/2019 08:09

Not unless it’s a heatwave! 100+ year old house with no insulation and lots of draft meaning I don’t really need to open them. Me and DH went through a stage of not opening them in the summer as new neighbours moved in and have been smoking cannabis consistently. We’re younger than them and don’t want to be stereotyped and blamed by the other neighbours if they see our windows open too. Very squished terrace with shared fronts so is hard to distinguish where it’s coming from! The stink also comes in the windows🤢

berrybubbles · 03/03/2019 08:12

I’ll share something that will puzzle me until I leave this earth! One of my other neighbours has had a bedroom window ajar for 2 years, as well as the window on their outhouse. Never ever shut, always open. Not very security conscious as someone could easily climb into their outhouse. Why??

Hot4Holes · 03/03/2019 08:12

Always have my bedroom window open, we have a tall house so not much chance of burglars.
Always have bathroom windows open on the little latch thing.

Magmatic80 · 03/03/2019 08:15

I do at night in bedroom, unless it’s below about 3 degrees out. My username is directly derived from my personal volcanic temperature at night

PumpkinJuk · 03/03/2019 08:20

I open bedroom one for about 20mins in the morning, bathroom one when I'm taking a bath or after a shower but apart from that never really open them.

rainbowstardrops · 03/03/2019 08:26

My bedroom little window stays open all year round unless it's super windy and I get fed up listening to my blinds whacking the wall. Same with my bathroom window.
Neighbours around me rarely have windows open and it always baffles me! Each to their own though I suppose

Moorfields · 03/03/2019 08:28

Yes I keep my bathroom window open a few inches all day until bedtime.

All rooms are aired daily particularly during housework & cooking.

greenelephantscarf · 03/03/2019 08:29

no
I open all windows in the morning for 20 min or so and again in the evening.
bathroom window stays open longer after shower to let the damp air out (with door closed)
kitchen window after cooking and after running the dish washer.

jcq17 · 03/03/2019 08:30

I only really open them in summer or if I'm cooking or decorating. I hate feeling a draft.

Nacreous · 03/03/2019 08:34

In the summer, yes. But in the winter, no. I have no desire for my house to be the same temperature as the outside world, and also no desire to pay to heat the atmosphere. I open them up to air the place but only for a few minutes.

Bluntness100 · 03/03/2019 08:36

In the summer if it's warm, but not in winter. I don't find cold houses in winter pleasant.

Ragwort · 03/03/2019 08:37

As much as I can and then my DH goes round shutting them, we no longer share a bedroom and one of the reasons is that I can only sleep with the window open & he prefers if closed. Grin

Otterses · 03/03/2019 08:42

Honestly? Only when our neighbours are away.

They smoke, and smoke weed, constantly which in turn makes my house and everything in it stink.

BarbedBloom · 03/03/2019 09:38

When it is milder, but I always open them for an hour or so even in winter.

spicygirl26 · 03/03/2019 09:43

Our upstairs toilet window is always open a little, and I do 'ten at ten' - open all of the windows at 10am (well, more like 9am after school run but the same principle) for ten minutes or so, even when cold. We've lived in houses with such poor air circulation and condensation it's a habit we have got into, it also makes everything smell nice and fresh.

Myusernameismud · 03/03/2019 09:49

I'm constantly opening windows and DH is constantly shutting them because I have a borderline obsessive need to have fresh air in the house. I have an acute sense of smell and I'm always convinced the house smells a bit weird, although nobody else can smell it.
Morning routine is wake up, open curtains, open windows, make bed. Every day, no matter the weather.

I tend to leave a bedroom window open at night all year round because DH is an actual human radiator.

Celeriacacaca · 03/03/2019 09:53

Our DCs are always moaning that mum's got the windows open again but it amazes me that some people don't, ever. Our neighbour (interiors obsessed yummy mummy) has two DCs and two dogs and never opens windows. DS babysits there occasionally and says the smell is rank Confused

Meet0nTheledge · 03/03/2019 10:01

Not all day no, ours are all big ones or ground floor and it would be a security risk to leave any of them open while we are out. There is very rarely a day when someone is at home all day. Just open them as much as we can in the hours of daylight.
