Just tailgating from a thread ive just read.

Do you open your windows and keep them open all day?

Most mornings as am doing the housework I will open most windows even in the depth of winter and keep them open all day if i dont open them for a day or so the place just isnt as fresh. Although when we had the snow they didnt stay open quite all day Grin

I know people who don’t open their windows and the air quality inside must be bad! Not to mention condensation and damp.

I open all windows every morning and then close a couple of hours later. When I was working full time I did it when I got back from work. DP goes around shutting them.

BitchQueen90 · 03/03/2019 11:10

Yes, I open mine every day before work and leave them open until I get home. Even in freezing weather. I hate the feeling of being stuffy, I like to get fresh air in every day.

I live in a first floor flat in a very busy location (shops and takeaways around) so if anyone wanted to burgle me they'd have to get a ladder and climb up in view of dozens of people.

I never leave them open at night though.

Bedroom windows open at night, but I shut the DC's if it's below 0. Open during the day when we're at home during spring and autumn. Air in the morning and after lunch for 10 mins in winter - heating would be astronomical else. Summer, all windows and doors open at night, shut by 6 to keep indoors as cool as possible for the day.

Bedroom and bathroom open all year round unless it is particularly windy or in the minus degrees outside which thankfully is not very often.

Moorfields · 03/03/2019 11:58

My neighbour has 4 dogs and she never opens the windows inside the house. The one time I went inside I nearly vomited, the smell was horrendous.

Chewbecca · 03/03/2019 12:00

Bedroom window is always open 24/7/365
Others as and when.

My attic room window stays open all the time unless snow or wind blow it shut. Can't sleep without fresh air. Have been known to book hotel rooms on basis of openable windows.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 03/03/2019 18:24

I open my bedroom window upstairs at night as it can be stifling even without the heating being on. I cant sleep in a room too hot.

LBOCS2 · 03/03/2019 19:14

Bedroom windows all year around. Downstairs windows to air out the house, daily if possible. Bathroom window is constantly locked on the air vent, likewise the DC's bedrooms.

SrSteveOskowski · 03/03/2019 19:37

I open the bedroom and bathroom windows every morning for a couple of hours just to let in some fresh air.
The rest of the house, only if its very warm.

MitziK · 03/03/2019 20:09

Almost always - and the back door is open right until it starts pissing down (and if there had been some sort of overhang to stop the rain coming straight in onto the kitchen floor, I'd have it open then as well).

I can't stand places where all the windows are shut and the doors are locked - they feel like a prison and usually smell of damp and sadness.

BackforGood · 03/03/2019 20:24

No. Don't think the insurance would pay out if we were burgled if I left windows open all day.

Moorfields · 03/03/2019 20:33

Of it's not baltic outside then I keep the
Kitchen & bathroom windows open all day if I'm at home. The windows in the other rooms are opened twice daily & left open if it's warm outside. In the summer, the patio doors are always kept open. I believe regular circulation of fresh air prevents damp & black mould.

happymummy12345 · 03/03/2019 20:39

In the summer when it's warm then yes (top ones even when out). In winter no. I'll open them for some fresh air but that's it

Stupomax · 03/03/2019 20:51

This made me smile. The warmest day we're getting this week is the day it's going to snow. It's going to be 5C which is very exciting.

The rest of the week it'll be back to the usual -3C highs in the day and -15C lows at night.

No, I don't leave my windows open. I like to actually have some of my paycheque left over after I've paid my heating bill :-)
