It’s great! After DH and I watched the first episode he was like Do you want to carry on?!, I wasn’t convinced but said we could watch a couple more. By then we were hooked! We are watching it all again (just started season 6) before the final season is released. Be prepared for lots of gore and unexpected deaths!

IDrinkAndISewThings · 02/03/2019 14:26

I'm so jealous that you get to watch it for the first time. It's awesome.

IhateBoswell · 02/03/2019 14:47

Oh I love it, wish I was watching it for the first time, with the ability to binge watch rather than wait for a new season.

Bobbybobbins · 02/03/2019 14:53

We are rewatching before final series. Enjoy!

MrsWicket · 02/03/2019 22:58

Read the books - absolutely brilliant. Taps fingers waiting for the next one - it’s been years because of the success of the series Sad

BartonHollow · 02/03/2019 23:03

Its ace

But some of the history and politics can baffle at the start.

Happy to oblige with spoiler free explanation

(Not because I'm a massive authority over any other poster, but because I enjoy any and all opportunities to bore on)
Blush

🤣🤣

drogon1 · 02/03/2019 23:13

We're rewatching for the billionth time!

BartonHollow · 02/03/2019 23:14

Me too! Already end of Season 1 started it last night 😂

nocoolnamesleft · 02/03/2019 23:14

I'm doing a boxset fest so I feel all caught up for the new season. Still keep spotting subtle bits I hadn't picked up the previous times...

thenightsky · 02/03/2019 23:16

I really want to watch the whole lot from day one again before the new series starts. Mainly because series one passed me by as DH watched it and I was all 'meh' I'm mumsnetting whilst glancing at this. Then I got all emotionally involved with Sean Bean's character and wished I'd watched from the go-get.

SomeDayPerhaps · 02/03/2019 23:17

Am I the only person who hates it?

BartonHollow · 02/03/2019 23:18

Me too coolnames loads of foreshadowing moments

I'm particularly picking up on the evolution of Sansa this time round

BartonHollow · 02/03/2019 23:19

No one is ever the only person who hates something

Am I the only person who hates The Big Bang Theory? No. And I've never considered that I was.

Milicentbystander72 · 02/03/2019 23:21

Me and dh were late to the GOT party.

We expected a lot as we'd been told we'd love it by so many people. First episode we were like "ok. Interesting". We didn't really have much of a clue what was going on. I kept having to look up characters on google.

We were still confused by much throughout the first series. By the end of it we were hooked. At the end of the second series we were VERY hooked!

Take your time with it. There was a while where I was thinking "I don't get the deal with this"🤷🏻‍♀️......but it's worth it.

Tessywoooooo · 02/03/2019 23:25

Yeah me too - jury is out still at 4 episodes in

Baconislife · 03/03/2019 00:29

Finished the first series
I'm 😮 at some of it

WarpedGalaxy · 03/03/2019 00:35

Yeah, that [shocked] feeling isn’t going to go away anytime soon in the next 6 seasons! I think I was in two minds whether to carry on after the first few episodes but the finale of season one I was hooked. Got the books because I couldn’t stand the wait for season 2.

Word to the wise, don’t go into the other thread that’s running currently because spoilers but please hurry up and watch seasons 2 - 7 so we can ask you what you thought when this one died and that one did x thing!

BartonHollow · 03/03/2019 00:37

Yes particularly if you don't read the book it will continue to shock

I honestly think that Game Of Thrones is the end of a certain era in TV

Being made to wait
The cultural impact
And the last tv series to be Appointment TV

Karmin · 03/03/2019 08:03

The nakedness gets much less as it goes on thankfully!

BearSoFair · 03/03/2019 08:58

I'm rewatching as well, just on S3. My username is GOT based!
Over the seasons I've grown to love Jaime Lannister, I'd say he's my number one character...but my God he was an utter dickhead at the start, I'd forgotten just how shitty he could be!

ApplesinmyPocket · 03/03/2019 09:15

I honestly thought it wouldn't be my thing - the snippets I heard about it made it sound horrible and on paper it so wasn't my sort of thing! But I absolutely love it. One of my all-time favourite shows.

There's so much brilliance in it. Never a dull scene. Surprises at every turn. Believable likeable characters who sometimes do things you won't like and sometimes will please you with how much they've grown and changed.

Though as an American friend who had watched ahead warned me, Don't get too fond of anyone

drogon1 · 03/03/2019 09:17

"Am I the only person who hates this?"

There's always one 🙄

FaithInfinity · 03/03/2019 09:22

Be prepared for a huge death toll! Many characters you like die and many you hope will die don’t!

I think GOT is the only show we watch which has a lot of commentary Can you imagine seeing that for the first time? or How must she feel now? or They’re always getting naked!

My favourite character is Arya Stark. DH’s is Sir Bron Smile

MillytantForceit · 03/03/2019 09:28

Tits & Dragons

You get points for spotting the Classical Mediterranean and British Medeval History allusions.

Best Line:

You Dernrt Knerrrrr, John Snerrr

Baconislife · 03/03/2019 11:31

Onwards to season 2 today
