School application - talk me down

Waiting for school allocation results for year 7. You can log in at midnight. I went to sleep and woke at 2am and looked and there is nothing there at all.

I definitely submitted it. Got email confirmation. Other people locally posted their results after midnight.

Nothing I can do till the morning and ring them to see what the fuck is happening. But Jesus fucking Christ I'm panicking

Tried to go back to sleep but no chance of that.

It's the right place as council posted the link. Right login.

I am here alone and can do fuck all and am panicking.

Sounds panic inducing all right.

But you know you submitted it as you have an email confirmation. There may have been an admin problem their end. Try not to panic. Easier said than done I know!

Fingers crossed for you.

I had the same issue until I was reading another thread and realised I hadn't clicked enough boxes to get to the right section. I ended up clicking an box with my child's details that did not look like a clicky link, then it had a box with "place allocated" again it didn't look like a link but sure enough, up came the offer.

Hope that helps and hope you get a school you're happy with.

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 03:03

@DyslexicNotThick only box I have in school admissions section is start an application.

And if I click that is says no available admissions.

Sounds like you didn’t get your first choice and it’s awaiting second choice allocation, takes a while to calculate in case people pull out of what they’re been given first

DyslexicNotThick · 01/03/2019 03:11

@nosleepformetonight on the council website there should also be a link for "secondary school offers" and then you should have to log in, and then it felt like I kept randomly clicking what seems like it might be relevant and finally stumbled upon the actual offer. Of course differential areas could have different layouts and some may be better than mine, but you need to find the offers section, not applications.
Honestly I thought I had looked properly and they were slow off the mark updating the website but it was there all the time.

ColeHawlins · 01/03/2019 03:12

Is it that time of year already? It is so nerve wracking. Fingers crossed tightly for you.

DyslexicNotThick · 01/03/2019 03:13

Ugh so many typos, I should either go back to school myself or go to sleep. 🙄

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 03:20

@DyslexicNotThick it's just not there. Thank you for reply though.

It must be an admin fuck up.

Emails are being sent website says between 6am-8am. So I guess if that doesn't come through either I'll have to go to council offices as I can't imagine ringing them today will work.

Accepted there will be no sleep now.

OP posts:
ColeHawlins · 01/03/2019 03:21

I thought that was impressively clear and concise for the time of morning @DyslexicNotThick

I just tried to tell the dog to get down and heard myself saying "Get the phone". Grin

I hate being awake at this hour Smile

ColeHawlins · 01/03/2019 03:29

Will you manage on no sleep @nosleepformetonight ? Are you working tomorrow?

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 03:36

@ColeHawlins I slept from 11pm-2am so had a tiny bit.

Fortunately I'm self employed so can rearrange my diary tomorrow if I need to.

I just can't get my head around it. I have read and reread the confirmation emailed about 6 times now. It is there. Application was made.

I just really hope this isn't going to be a nightmare to sort.

OP posts:
Justagirlwholovesaboy · 01/03/2019 03:43

If the school you selected was over numbers then it comes to a human decision, if there is another suitable school in your area you are at the bottom of the list and hence not automatically selected

WhoKnewBeefStew · 01/03/2019 03:46

They don’t always come through at midnight. I’ve hesrd of people waiting until 3pm the next day so try not to panic too much

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 03:47

@Justagirlwholovesaboy yes but I'd still have the option on the portal of an allocation. That is missing totally. No option. Nothing.

It's not that I haven't been allocation my first /second /third. It that there is nothing at all. As if no application was done.

OP posts:
nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 03:48

@WhoKnewBeefStew the council posted that you can log in at midnight to see, and other locally have done that and it was.

OP posts:
Justagirlwholovesaboy · 01/03/2019 03:54

The option for allocating doesn’t show up immediately, your first/second choice may not be someone else’s. Until the people ahead of you on your school lists have responded you may be in limbo. I’d they all choose not your favourite then slots will open up

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 03:57

@Justagirlwholovesaboy that's not the way it happens here. You will be allocated a place.

And as I said it's not about the specifics of the school I can't see. There is no allocation info at all when I log in.

OP posts:
Blue5238 · 01/03/2019 04:00

Just logged on and nothing on mine either yet

Witchend · 01/03/2019 07:39

Justagirl you are wrong, it's not human decision after the first one, and they allocate all at the same time, they don't wait to see.

Op it's probably something simple like website crashing. But if you have email confirmation then it's clearly their mistake and they should sort it out fairly quickly, and your D's would have a space created for him in whichever school he would have got into.

OMGithurts · 01/03/2019 07:40

Whereabouts are you? On another thread here it says that the admissions in Greater London won't be online until 5pm.

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 07:57

I'm south east and it was out at midnight to log in. And then emails are also out now.

But nothing.

Have been talked down a bit with logic by friends. He has no application at all showing so it must be a problem their end as one went in and I have the email to show that.

So need to wait till 9am and start ringing

OP posts:
2rachtin · 01/03/2019 09:12

How stressful! I hope it gets sorted ASAP

nosleepformetonight · 01/03/2019 09:45

Update. Managed to get through to the admissions office on the phone.

They have the application. I should have got an email. The portal is not working for me specifically because of an admin error their end.

But they can't tell me the school he got.

I have to email in and request a new email. Currently they are taking up to ten days to reply.

Beyond frustrating.

OP posts:
NewYear12UserName · 01/03/2019 09:51

That is very frustrating. You could try asking your DS's current primary school, they should have a list of allocations. If you explain then a sympathetic administrator st the primary may be able to let you know 'unofficially'.

ChessIsASport · 01/03/2019 09:51

That’s very frustrating but at least you know they have got his application. It seems crazy that they can’t just tell you over the phone!
