Earl Grey Tea

Are there any Earl Grey lovers who can recommend a strong Earl Grey?

I'm fed up of searching for a brand that tastes like it smells. They all smell lush but as soon as the hot water hits the tea bag it just tastes like bland tea.

Really need that Earl Grey fix asap Grin

Waitrose own brand are excellent. Strong but not bitter. Definitely better than Twinings. My favourite premium EG is T2 (the standard, not the French one that is oddly sweet).

Another mention for Marks and Spencer Earl Grey.

I hate M&S, I find it far too strong. I buy Clipper organic, but I don't have much choice as I live in the arse end of Ireland. It's good though, but I sometimes yearn for more choice!

Whittards loose EarlGrey in a really pretty blue tin (the tin clearly makes the difference!). I found it much nicer than the Fortnum's.

foodiefil · 01/03/2019 23:27

I was going to suggest Twinings but I'm a newbie to the loveliness of Earl Grey and it's clearly not hitting the mark for you!

Will watch with interest for a better version.

I also like it with milk and cake - don't know if that makes me a heathen 🤣

Teapigs the one with a picture of a bulldog x

SnagAndChips · 02/03/2019 07:46

M and S earl grey are delicious.

LuckyKitty13 · 02/03/2019 07:47

Tea pigs - earl grey strong!

Pluginwall · 02/03/2019 07:55

Weirdly, we had a whole other thread about this really recently. I really would recommend the Nothing But Tea website, their Earl Grey is delicious.

That was my thread. I have given up wine and taken up tea drinking instead.

I have just received my second order of Nothing But Tea Earl Grey and can confirm their tea is delicious. They also do a Viscount Grey (spicy with ginger, fennel, cardoman as well as black classic Earl Grey tea) - I sometimes make a pot of tea with 1 spoon Viscount Grey and 2 of Earl Grey to get the perfect blend (for me anyway). I also drink it with milk.

anniehm · 02/03/2019 07:58

Morrison's premium one is good (and the bags are silky and pretty!)

funmummy48 · 02/03/2019 08:03

I like the Suki Tea Earl Grey. It's delicious 😋

boxlikeamarchhare · 02/03/2019 08:34

I have tried loads of different loose teas over the years- I bought tons after a trip to Vienna but never found anything I loved. I might look again at nothing but tea.

Wow 😯 those Ronnefeldt teas are expensive!!

hairygodmother · 02/03/2019 08:57

Pluginwall, I am so glad you're enjoying the Nothing But Tea tea (as it were). The Viscount one sounds delicious too, I must give it a try.

bebeboeuf · 02/03/2019 10:03

Clipper organic for me

icannotremember · 02/03/2019 10:06

Aldis one isn't bad.

scaryteacher · 02/03/2019 11:07

Fortnums Smoky Earl Grey is fab. Otherwise, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury own labels are fine. I find the TeaPigs bitter as well.

scaryteacher · 02/03/2019 11:10

I get anyone who I know is travelling by Eurostar to get me the Fortnums Smoky Earl Grey at St Pancras.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 02/03/2019 11:25

Check out the selection at Imperial Teas of Lincoln!

I've just ordered this because if of this thread! They have loads of earl grey type teas.

MrTumblePulledAKnifeOnMe · 07/03/2019 21:49

Thanks for all your suggestions. I had no idea Twinings changed the blend back to how it used to be. I ordered one sample of The Earl and one of Earl Grey. Just sipping on The Earl and oh my, just how it should be 😍.

Will try Earl Grylet tomorrow to see how it compares.

Omg have found my people, I am addicted to earl grey tea!

MsTSwift · 07/03/2019 22:48

I have to take earl grey tea bags on holiday Blush I need a very hot earl grey 3 times a day or I get edgy. What is in it?! I guess of all the things to be addicted to this isn’t so bad

Girlzroolz · 07/03/2019 22:48

All this talk of Earl Grey is making me giggle. The nearest cafe to school drop off has this quirky barista. Every time I order his (rather good) tea, he hovers anxiously over me, making sure I’m waiting until just the right moment of brewing to drink it. I swear he nearly sobbed out loud when my friend asked for milk in hers a few weeks back!

If he could get away with it, he’d serve it with a teeny alarm clock for optimum drinking. And a ban on talking, while you savour it.

Coffee snobs have a reputation, but Tea snobs can be very unnerving at the extreme end!

whatsnewchoochoo · 07/03/2019 23:18

Another one saying Williamson's - it's genuinely the only reason I shop with Ocado

GeorgeTheBleeder · 07/03/2019 23:37

Oh! The avowedly well sourced tea place in my local town leaves the teapot with exactly such an alarm on the table. Only, once, I was so engrossed in important business on my phone (yup!) that I didn't bother to look up to see just who was ignoring their alarm. Carried on screen tapping, getting increasingly irritated by the selfish alarm ignoring diner I had not identified. Until your hovering barista appeared at my elbow and flicked my screeching alarm.
