Earl Grey Tea

Are there any Earl Grey lovers who can recommend a strong Earl Grey?

I'm fed up of searching for a brand that tastes like it smells. They all smell lush but as soon as the hot water hits the tea bag it just tastes like bland tea.

Really need that Earl Grey fix asap Grin

Twinings - but not the tea bags. It has to be the loose tea SmileBrew

Actually, our favourite is to mix Twinings loose Earl Grey 50:50 with loose Darjeeling tea (Sainsbury's one brand is was fine).

But loose Darjeeling tea is now almost impossible to get hold of. Apparently there is is fighting (or a strike?) in the region Sad

Oh wow, so many suggestions and many I haven't heard of before.

I was hopeful for Tescos version, smelt really strong but tastes of nothing.

I will go a few of these a try, thanks for the suggestions!

I love Earl Grey with milk. I wish I had a box now!

Brew Tea Co. Rolled tea leaves and strong. It's a good one. I also love their Moroccan Mint.

Twinings changed it a while ago and there was a minor rebellion (ok maybe too strong a word) from the public so they changed it back.

It's good now

Travis1 · 01/03/2019 14:41

I always go for loose leaf. Tescos own one is pretty good.

Ivegotthree · 01/03/2019 14:57

Cannot BELIEVE no-one's recommended this!

From Fortnums so you have to pay to get it sent but it is SO good (and STRONG!)

Maybe I'll give Twinings another go as this was the brand that got me hooked.

Shame you can't buy just one tea bag as a taster!

You can on the twinings website!

AlexandraPeppernose · 01/03/2019 19:48

I like Pukka Earl Grey

ScreamingValenta · 01/03/2019 19:50

Loose tea (almost any brand) is the way to go if you want a strong citrus taste.

MsTSwift · 01/03/2019 19:52

Is anyone else addicted to earl grey tea?

bruffin · 01/03/2019 19:53

Waitrose own brand that's in a tin.

campion · 01/03/2019 20:08

'Russian Earl Grey' is the bees knees, especially the loose leaf version. Unfortunately it's only available in France (and possibly Belgium and Netherlands) despite one of the main brands being Twinings!! Liptons is the other good one - there are other less tasty ones. I'm a connoisseur, honest.

It is available online but more expensive. Though less pricey than a trip to France I suppose Grin and I do stock up massively when I'm there!

CommunistLegoBloc · 01/03/2019 20:19

Absolutely the Fortnum’s smoky earl grey linked to above

onetwofive · 01/03/2019 20:59

Agree about Williamson's - it's AMAZING & nothing else lives up to it. Totally addicted.

sizzledrizz · 01/03/2019 21:28

M and S is good. Tea Pigs is my favourite. Twinings is not what it used to be. Clipper is ok, but very mild, but much better than Tesco Finest.

There’s no going back after these

OlennasWimple · 01/03/2019 21:33

F&M Smoky Earl Grey is surprisingly refreshing (and strong - but not too smoky)

Girlinstripedpyjamas · 01/03/2019 22:14

I’m on Asda but don’t rate it. I must try m and s. And I like Lady Grey too

hairygodmother · 01/03/2019 22:21

Weirdly, we had a whole other thread about this really recently. I really would recommend the Nothing But Tea website, their Earl Grey is delicious.

Not sure how to link to another thread, but look in the 'Food/Recipes' topic for Best Earl Grey tea from about a month ago.

BasiliskStare · 01/03/2019 22:23

Booths ?

Gunpowder · 01/03/2019 22:31

Yes yes campion! I’m obsessed by Russian Earl Grey too. Delicious.

MsTSwift. I’m addicted to Lady Grey. Would give up wine rather than tea.
