Not trying to be goady...

I have a school Mum friend. SAHM - 3 children all at school and wealthy family. I am genuinely slightly intrigued as to what she does all day? She said to me that her doctor had recommended she swim 2 or 3 times a week but went on to engage me in a conversation that was like "You know what it's like don't you, I just couldn't believe he could suggest that, AS IF I have time for that!" - But I was stood with her thinking "well, I manage to work 5 hours x 4 days a week, do all the necessary stuff (shopping, petrol and a few chores) and have enough time to fit in 2 x 20 minute walks". I just nodded and looked sympathetic. Am I missing something?! She volunteers one morning a week but that's it. What is she doing for the rest of the time?!? puts on flame proof jacket

Oh for goodness sake, there’s probably someone out there who looks at your regime and wonders what the hell you’re doing with all your spare time.

I’m as busy as hell from 5.30am ‘til I fall asleep on the sofa around 10pm. If I do have any spare time I will go out for a walk rather than go for a swim ffs, far more time consuming that is, unless it happens to be in your own home!

sagradafamiliar · 27/02/2019 19:20

Are you really intrigued though? Are you actually intrigued as to how others spend their day?

SurgeHopper · 27/02/2019 19:21

She's currently on MN, laughing her socks off

Incredible how you just know that a post titled "not trying to be goady" is almost certainly going to be so.

Ask her, perhaps?

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 27/02/2019 19:25

I'm a SAHP with school aged children (in fact one is at university) and I do an awful lot of nunya.

Nunya business.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 27/02/2019 19:26

I work 60h a week and manage to walk 20mins per day...how on Earth are you only managing it twice a week?!

Or far more sensibly....why the fuck are you turning it into a competition?!

GreenWingers · 27/02/2019 19:26

I think it's a reasonable thing to wonder. She may have many necessary things taking up her time and she may not. Probably best to just ask her.

Kittykat93 · 27/02/2019 19:29

You're hilarious op. You work a whole 20 hours a week?? What do you want, a medal?? I work 40 hours a week plus an hour commute plus juggling a toddler. And I walk for 20 minutes during my lunch break Grin I win!!!! Wink

NataliaOsipova · 27/02/2019 19:29

Ask her then instead of starting goady threads to slag her off on the internet.

Yup. What do I do all day? Whatever the fuck I want to. (Until 3pm, when I maniacally taxi children what seems like the length and breadth of the county to their various “stuff”!)

Decormad38 · 27/02/2019 19:34

This thread is never going to go well!

picklemepopcorn · 27/02/2019 19:38

Seriously, she may have a demanding family- children needing lots of running around and support, or a husband who doesn't/can't pull his weight, parents who need support...

Or She may make gourmet meals every night, shop in farmer's markets and small local shops, do flower arranging for church...

sagradafamiliar · 27/02/2019 19:44

It's all just so very intriguing

LlamaPjama · 27/02/2019 19:52

WorraLiberty -your post is so funny!! Grin

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 27/02/2019 20:07

What is she doing for the rest of the time?!?

Flicks her bean obviously.

ThisCoolBean · 27/02/2019 20:09

It never fails to amaze me the lack of imagination people have about what they could possibly fill their time with if they weren’t at work.

slipperywhensparticus · 27/02/2019 20:10

I was out of work for a week I took selfies with my three identical kittens sent them to my daughter (who is away at uni) and tried to engage her in a game of guess the cat she was unimpressed

ThisCoolBean · 27/02/2019 20:20

It’s always ‘what does she DO all day?!??’
Maybe she enjoys her life. Radical concept I know, but hey.

Amibeingnaive · 27/02/2019 20:20

@paisho much like the way in which the phrase 'without meaning to be rude' is always followed by intentional rudeness. You can't offset the intent by denying it upfront, sadly.

Amibeingnaive · 27/02/2019 20:22

@slipperywhensparticus I genuinely cannot think of a better way to use one's time.

I send DH a lot of pictures of the cat, even while working from home, because I'm an incredible multitasker like that.

paisho · 27/02/2019 20:23

@Amibeingnaive I guess this is the Mumsnet version of "no offence but"!

Birdsgottafly · 27/02/2019 20:25

Now my Sister has retired she wonders how she fitted in working.

As said, if you have spare time, you fill it.

I wonder how I managed working, three part time jobs, with three young children, as an LP, one with SN and have a social life. I couldn't do half of what I did then.

Watch extreme cleaners or Wife Swap, some people spend all day cleaning.

If she is a friend it would have been better to suggest that she makes the time for herself. There must have been a reason why she went to the doctors.

JRMisOdious · 27/02/2019 20:27

Why do you care?

starzig · 27/02/2019 20:42

Time is like money. The more you have, the more you use and you never ever have enough.

LimeKiwi · 27/02/2019 20:48

What is she doing for the rest of the time?

Whatever she likes?
Oh and Biscuit

Babdoc · 27/02/2019 20:54

Is that actually a picture of a biscuit, Limekiwi? I’ve seen it a lot on MN, and for months I assumed it was a boob, to imply that the OP was a tit!
