Which book do you love reading to your children?

Mine is Peace at Last. I love the sound effects and the fact that my one year old DD joins in with the repeated bits. I love the illustrations. I remember having it read to me as a child.

It made me wonder which books others enjoy reading to their children and why?

The gruffalo and we're going on a bear hunt

We have little voices for them and when I don't do them she tells me off BlushGrin

AragonsGirl · 26/02/2019 21:38

Burglar Bill, because I have fond memories of my mum reading it to me. And anything by Julia Donaldson because they are fab!

ememem84 · 26/02/2019 21:39

Mog the forgetful cat. It was always one of my favourites. Ds is 17 months and we have a tabby cat like mog. Ds points to mog then to catface. And laughs. He especially likes it when catface sits with us to read.

I love we’re going on a bear hunt. I read it so msny times, I knew it off by heart. Also, what a wonderful world by Tim Hopgood, which is basically the song with nice pictures.

PepperSteak · 26/02/2019 21:41

Paper dolls. It’s my absolute favourite and the mummy and daughter in the pictures vaguely resemble me and DD Grin

FreeButtonBee · 26/02/2019 21:44

I’m currently loving the Mr Penguin books. Very funny chapter books with girl villains and lots of silly jokes. Much better than bloody faraway tree (which I loved as a child but am now hating reading)

Ribbonsonabox · 26/02/2019 21:45

Peepo. I love Peepo... it's so comforting. I love the pictures. Burglar Bill is also great. And Each Peach Pear Plum, which I have really vivid memories of from being a child... the pictures are some of my first memories.
I also love the Tiger Who Came to Tea. I was never read that as a child but my son loves it! I love the dads face when the mum is telling him about the tiger...
I also love Dogger... again I love the illustrations.

Bathbombs · 26/02/2019 21:47

I loved dogger and other Shirley Hughes ones.

doodlejump1980 · 26/02/2019 21:48

There’s a bear on my chair by Ross Collins. It’s brilliant 😁

evilharpy · 26/02/2019 21:50

I love Stickman. Never get bored of it.

TeenTimesTwo · 26/02/2019 21:52

Gumpy's

Dhalandchips · 26/02/2019 21:54

I love Green Eggs And Ham. It's silly nonesense and the kids giggle...still at 10 & 11!

Titsywoo · 26/02/2019 21:54

My kids are too old for stories now but my favs when they were little were Little Rabbit Foo Foo and You Choose.

fruityb · 26/02/2019 21:54

Hippobottymous, Poo in the Zoo and Where’s my Cow?

It’s ds while I read them that I love - he listens to every word and laughs. I just wish he’d then go the fudge to sleep afterwards

ThursdayLastWeek · 26/02/2019 21:54

Anything Ahlberg for the nostalgia.

I find the Snail & The Whale very good for soothing overwrought bedtimes.

Parket · 26/02/2019 21:55

You choose

Great illustrations and sparks a lot of chat Smile

UnalliterativeGeorge · 26/02/2019 21:55

The heart and the bottle

Are you sitting comfortably?

There's a monster in your book

bellinisurge · 26/02/2019 21:56

Hairy McLary and Slinkier Malinki

UnalliterativeGeorge · 26/02/2019 21:56

Ooh and the book with no pictures because they think it's hysterically funny

BlueMerchant · 26/02/2019 21:58

The day the crayons quit.

SnugglySnerd · 26/02/2019 21:59

Some of my other favourites here!

My older DD loves the You Choose books. Supertato is brilliant and anything else by Sue Hendra - her books are so funny.

I'm going to look up a few of these that I haven't heard of.
