Erm....tell me I can't be pg?

TMI ALERT

So we had a condom failure a few days ago. It slipped off inside me, after dh had come. Didn't even know that could happen ShockBlush

And some cum did come out because as I was wiping afterwards it was sticky, not like normal.

According to my period tracking app, it's the day I'm most likely to have ovulated.....I'm in my early 40s, anyone know the chances of being pg? Please tell me it will all be ok and there's virtually no chance

I can’t tell you that I’m afraid. Did you get the MAP? There is one that works up to 5 days later. If a pregnancy is really not what you want then go and get it.

kaytee87 · 24/02/2019 20:28

Well of course there's a chance you could be pregnant.
How many days ago was this?

ABitPeteTong · 24/02/2019 20:42

I'd rather not be pg but wouldn't end a pg. My dh doesn't have dc and I know he'd like them, but he's worried about my health (my body isn't great at being pg: hyperemesis, bad spd/pgp, prolapse)

I'm just kind of hoping that my age makes it unlikely? Grasping at straws

It's been a long time since I had dc...How soon can I test?

You can test a few days store your period would be due. Of course you could be pregnant. Doesn’t fertility have a last little boost before menopause- so late 30s:early 40s...?
Hope you get the result you want.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 24/02/2019 20:45

If you’d rather not be pregnant then take the MAP. You still have time. If you don’t then you clearly do want to be pregnant. Which is fine, but be honest with yourself.

ABitPeteTong · 24/02/2019 20:45

I forgot to say that I've name changed out of embarrassment

OP posts:
ILoveMaxiBondi · 24/02/2019 20:47

Nothing to be embarrassed about, condoms fail all the time. You didn’t cause that.

SparkyBlue · 24/02/2019 20:47

Had something similar happen and I'm currently 29 weeks pregnant.

kaytee87 · 24/02/2019 20:48

If it's only been 3 days then go to a pharmacy now and get the MAP

Bigonesmallone3 · 24/02/2019 20:49

There's no way including yourself anyone can know for about a fortnight..

ABitPeteTong · 24/02/2019 20:51

Personally, I've chosen not to do abortions etc (unless medically necessary) for religious reasons. I'm not sure whether the MAP comes under that. I don't understand how it works.

OP posts:
ABitPeteTong · 24/02/2019 20:54

Oh dear Sparky how do you feel about it?

I'd told myself I was past all that. So I'm mentally trying to adjust to the idea that it's possible.

PippilottaLongstocking · 24/02/2019 20:55

MAP just stops implantation, if you’re already pregnant it won’t end the pregnancy

olderthanyouthink · 24/02/2019 20:55

MAP stops a pregnancy before it takes, if that makes sense. It's supposed to stop ovulation and the egg implanting.

I had two condoms slip within a week, 2 lots of MAP later and I felt awful, but I had already ovulated which reduces the effectiveness by a lot so here I am accidentally spraying my 3 month old baby in the face with breast milk.

thecutecouple · 24/02/2019 20:55

You can still take MAP but it is less effective after 72 hours. Why have you waited so long afterwards if you don't want to get pregnant?

ABitPeteTong · 24/02/2019 20:56

Bigones thanks. I've really forgotten everything I used to know about it all. It's going to be a long couple of weeks.

OP posts:
olderthanyouthink · 24/02/2019 20:56

Ps I took MAP within and couple hours and within 12 hours

Redskyandrainbows67 · 24/02/2019 20:56

The risk is low but there.

You can test a couple of days before your period or in 5 ish days from now with first response

olderthanyouthink · 24/02/2019 20:57

I felt awful because the pill made me feel sick not because of any moral issues

genome · 24/02/2019 20:58

If you've already ovulated MAP is less effective as its main action is to prevent ovulation, similar to the contraceptive pill.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 24/02/2019 21:00

so here I am accidentally spraying my 3 month old baby in the face with breast milk.

Older you made me laugh with your last bit Grin

For the others: The MAP just isn't something I'd even thought of. I grew up with the idea that pg doesn't get ended. So I didn't even think of it.

If I took it tomorrow and it didn't work, could it harm any potential baby?

If it just stops ovulation/implantation and doesn't cause harm, I'll have a think about it tonight.

OP posts:
Givemestrengthorgin · 24/02/2019 21:01

MAP only works if taken before you ovulate so if you think you already ovulate the day you had sex then it won't make any difference. A fact I don't think is made clear enough and came as a surprise to me! I had the copper coil fitted which can be fitted up to 5 days after sex to work as emergency contraception.

SparkyBlue · 24/02/2019 21:02

@ABitPeteTong I took a long time to come to terms with it if I am going to be honest. It's been a miserable pregnancy. Like yourself a termination wasn't an option for me . I am excited now and the DC are thrilled but I am having my tubes tied during my section so definitely never again.

ABitPeteTong · 24/02/2019 21:02

Just want to say, I'm pro choice. My choice is not to, but I support others choices to end pg and I'm not claiming any moral high ground etc. It's just where I'm at in my thinking and faith for me.
