M&S at yellow sticker time is amazing. I’ve had real bargains. They almost give the food away.

I've more or less given up bothering to be honest. A new one opened up on the way home from work and it took a while for them to figure out their stock levels, so for a while it was bargains galore.

However, there now seems to be a hardcore of committed and dedicated yellow sticker hunters who will crowd around the person with the reducing gun, and grab everything out of their hands as soon as it is reduced. They then take their trolley full of reduced stuff away to a quiet corner to sort through what they do and do not want, but will usually take just about all of, and randomly dump the things they don't want in the nearest fridge.

As I refuse to harrass the staff and am not getting into a fight with someone with sharper elbows than me over a cut price M&S ready meal, I hardly bother anymore. And before anyone says anything, I highly doubt these people 'need' reduced M&S food. A minority might, but most of them will be just greedy and selfish.

Key lime pie
The cheddar which costs about £4. Don’t know what it’s called
Most of the fruit is better than other places. It must grow on a M&S bush or tree
A lot of the cakes and bread from the bakery counter
The sausages that are 2 packs for £5, various flavours

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/02/2019 10:23

The most hilariously overpriced M&S item that I can think of is a 'roasting vegetables' pack with the full price of either £2 or possibly a bit more, that consists of half a red onion, about a quarter of a cauliflower, and a bit of turmeric and cumin seeds sprinkled on it.

I bought one once when it was reduced to 49p and still felt a bit ripped off at that price as there was about 30 pence worth of quick and easy to prepare vegetables and a tiny bit of basic storecupboard spices that you could buy a year's supply of for about a pound. Lesson learned.

Meralia · 25/02/2019 10:49

I bought some food shopping from m and s food the other day. The oven cook parmentier potatoes are lovely, think they have garlic on them? They cooked really well, tasted light and fluffy and cooked evenly.

Also, bought one of the stir fry deals, it’s a protein, veg pack, sauce and noodles for £6 and it feeds 2 people.

Their gluten free cheese and onion quiche is also really tasty.

Alakazam8 · 25/02/2019 11:20

I’m addicted to their bakery Eccles cakes!

Millie2013 · 25/02/2019 11:46

I love their Eton mess dessert
And the broccoli, cheese and potato bake, which is a side order but I eat it as a main
Last summer they did a lovely lemon ice cream

BlueMerchant · 25/02/2019 11:58

Tins of shortbread
Blood Orange ice creams
Stonebaked pizzas
Pasta sauces( Tomato & Mascarpone my fav)
Salt&Vinigar Sticks/Prawn Shells

ChickeningOut · 25/02/2019 11:59

The chocolate twists in the bakery section

JingsMahBucket · 25/02/2019 12:55

Their balsamic onion cheddar is really addictive. I bought it on whim one time to take to a friend’s house for brunch and all of us attending were totally surprised at how tasty it was.

Dontletthebastardsgrindyoudown · 25/02/2019 12:56

Victoria sponge muffins! Oh.dear.lord!

They're amazing!

bluechameleon · 25/02/2019 12:57

Iced spiced buns. I used to buy one at least once a week when I commuted through Liverpool Street. Might have contributed to my being several stone overweight at the time but they are delicious!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/02/2019 13:08

BarbaraofSeville

The yellow stickers in our M&S don’t work like that. They sticker them in the same section. So you have to hunt them down.

I got a beautiful massive orchid in a china pot for £2.60 the other week. It’s fabulous and healthy.

We had a Colin caterpillar reduced to £2 which was a delight. No one scurrying off with all the goodies. Not that I’ve noticed anyway. Ours is a simply food. So it’s a big food store. I love it there.

Quintella · 25/02/2019 13:11

I absolutely love those little tartlets they sell in their bakery for £1 each. Three of those for 50p at yellow sticker time is a joy.

ChickeningOut · 25/02/2019 13:22

What are the best times to get yellow snickered items? Does it vary by store?

ChickeningOut · 25/02/2019 13:24

I have an M&S branch just 4 minutes from me. It's dangerous. The temptation is always there.

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/02/2019 13:29

They do the yellow stickers just before 5 pm* at the store I pass, and they do sticker the food in its own section rather than collecting it up to a single area, but that still doesn't stop some people crowding round the sticker person so no-one except them gets a look in.

They literally grab the things out of their hand as soon as the sticker goes on and buy dozens of items, all reduced.

  • This is the second round of yellow stickering. Smaller, and somewhat pointless reductions happen earlier in the day, and then if not sold, they get reduced by a much bigger margin just before 5, so there's a 'heads up' as to which items are going to be reduced - anything that already has a sticker, but has not sold.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/02/2019 13:29

I think it varies to be honest. I go in the morning and find plenty. Depends on the dates I think.
