I was 15. I was the last out of my friends to start. The first was 11.

There are normally other stages before periods starting e.g. breast buds

My dd started just after Christmas at 13.8 years. I started at 11 as did my Mum, I thought my dd would follow after!

My niece has just started hers at nine years old.

My dd started hers the summer before starting y7 so 11, half a dozen of her friends had already started and all the girls in her friendship circle had started by the end of y7

I felt it was young but after speaking to women in the family and other parents 11 seems a common age. I think I was 13.

"Expected them to be very erratic but she went September without one and is now regular, every month, which surprised me. I'm sure my took a good year or so to settle into a proper cycle.."

I could set my watch to mine ever since I had my first age 10. I know this is the exception rather than the rule though...

I was 11. My mother point blank scared me to death about tampons because she didn’t use them, so I didn’t actually use a tampon until I was around 14/15.

I would discuss all her options with her, but stick to pads whilst she’s still this young and teach her the hygiene etc which I’m sure you will, and just ensure she never hides knickers/bedding/clothing out of embarrassment, let it be a free subject in your household!

I was 10 and am 62 now. I was not unusual, so don't think it is a recent thing.

My DD is only 7 so we hopefully have a few years yet (I was 14). My aunts step daughter got hers at 11 as well, seems to happen earlier and earlier.
