Seems to be a lot of pre brexit stockpiling going on here. But none in real life Confused

Lazy comments like " ooh the bingo is starting" are hardly helpful are they.
I won't be the only one who feels 'meh' or somewhat cynical.
I'm open to discussion, persuasion even but sarky responses don't elevate my interest.

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 11:27

It's not my job or any one else's to raise your level of interest. This discussion has been going on here for months with people dropping in to say Y2K or scaremongering or you are the problem etc etc. Hence bingo.
If you haven't twigged by now that you need to think about this, that's your problem.

I have a law firm to run. I have no obligation to spend my time educating you and explaining why your comments are stupid.

Uptheapplesandpears · 21/02/2019 11:29

Be uninterested then.

MrsJBaptiste · 21/02/2019 11:35

Oooh, get you redhat 😂😂😂

EntirelyAnonymised · 21/02/2019 11:52

I’m not doing it and I don’t know any real life stockpilers either, OP.

Cloudtree · 21/02/2019 11:54

well you think you don't...

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 12:01

You might live next door to me @EntirelyAnonymised . We're friendly. We say hi. You would never know that I have a load of stuff because I haven't told you.

blibblibs · 21/02/2019 12:02

I've been forward purchasing since Christmas. I've told no one in RL apart from DM on the hope it will encourage her to do the same. She lives too far away for me to be any practical help to her if there are problems.
Unfortunately I have a house inspection next week so my stash won't be as secret as it is now.

Angelinthenightx · 21/02/2019 12:12

I dont know anyone who is, i was thinking about it but my husband said i was being silly.

LarryDuff · 21/02/2019 12:18

I did an extra online shop last night, about £50 all in of cupboard staples and household stuff that will get used either way, plus some 5l bottles of water and matches.

I also got some bread flour and yeast so I can make my own lovely fresh bread. It's not necessarily about brexit for me, it's just enough to have as a minor contingency against anything from bad weather to being ill and probably what a lot of people do anyway but I was inspired by the brexit threads I read on here yesterday so thanks for that :)

Just need to get a wine stash now....

Backwoodsgirl · 21/02/2019 12:24

The number 1 rule of prepping is not to mention it.

I have been urging me family in the UK to stockpile but unfortunately they "trust the government to do the right thing"

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 12:29

@Angelinthenightx - do you always do what your husband says?

bigKiteFlying · 21/02/2019 12:39

there are loads of people that don't like to let their cupboards get too empty and could happily survive on what they have in the house for quite some time. I can't actually see how that is any different to stockpiling ...

I have some family who have three freezers worth of food, there's two of them, and full cupboards but think any talk of stockpiling is ridiculousHmm.

Only conversations with family about future purchasing has been about medicines – other than getting a few weeks ahead if possible by putting repeat prescriptions in as soon as possible there’s not much to be done. I'm pretty sure the Health minister has suggested that anyway - I was half listening to radio interview.

We've got stuff in - been doing it slowly for months. If we don’t need it, they'll be a few cheaper months coming up - if prices go up we have time to adjust budgets. As there are five of us we tend to feel food price rises sooner than many relatives with few people to feed. Haven't really told people that in RL.

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 12:47

Sorted for milk for your tea, then?

Icecreamcarton · 21/02/2019 12:56

Erm, don't you understand the basic premise that if fresh food isn't available then people will need to eat more tinned and long life food. Thus decreasing the availability of those foods

@redhat yes I do understand there will be more demand on tinned and non fresh goods. Hence the supermarkets have said they’ve ordered more in.

What I don’t understand is where - anywhere at all - there has been any warning of shortages of food to put in people’s mouths.

Peridot1 · 21/02/2019 13:01

I’ve stockpiled. Based on reading threads on here and I joined the 48% Preppers FB group. It is a closed group so doesn’t come up on my feed. There are now 10k members from 5k when I joined about a month ago.

Financially we can afford to buy a lot now so I have done. It will save money in the long run. And it also means that if and when the shit hits the fan I won’t be part of the people panic buying.

Supermarkets are stockpiling what they can but they have limited space. Me stockpiling now while the systems still work means that the items I buy come from the supermarket, the ordering system orders more from the warehouse and there is more capacity for the supermarket to stockpile.

I don’t think there will be no food. I think supplies will be affected and there will be shortages. Many people can’t afford to stock up (or forward purchase) so the fact that i and thousands of others have done means there will be more available for those people. In fact I think anyone who can afford to stock up SHOULD do so. Not just for their own family but to help the system generally.

ShabbyAbby · 21/02/2019 13:01

I have no extra money and no extra space
I do have a stock pile of medicines though (there have been problems with those for some time)

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 13:05

@Icecreamcarton , there are no warnings that we will starve. But I don't remember the bus saying "we won't starve ". The fact "we won't starve " isn't something to aim for in a relatively well supplied and relatively prosperous society. Currently those things. Soon to be a bit patchy if we No Deal.

Uptheapplesandpears · 21/02/2019 13:12

Personally I see the relevant question as when have there been assurances that there are sufficient stockpiles of tinned food to prevent life from being more unpleasant in the event of supply disruption. I ask myself why I'd want to presume Tesco et al have both sufficient stocks and the means to distribute them equitably enough that I can be assured of the necessities.

Cloudtree · 21/02/2019 13:28

The supermarkets have said they can store and extra few days of food maximum

Angelinthenightx · 21/02/2019 13:37

No i dont do what my husband says,we are a team we work together, but i was goin to do the same when i thought a war was going to start and there was no war ,also i am a worrier .we havnt always been in the eu and we were fine.
I think its funny the way people like to start on people on here this is why the world is a mess too many nasty people time people started being nice ,make the world a better place.

bellinisurge · 21/02/2019 13:40

I am not "starting on you". I am trying to understand why you aren't questioning your husband. I too work in a team with my husband. But if I disagree with him on something that I believe is important, I will do what I think is right.
