Anyone else short of squirrels?

toach · 20/02/2019 12:45

We've lived here many years, SW London, always had loads of squirrels, but for the last few months I haven't seen one, not even our little regular with the missing tail. The nut feeders remain full, just a few birds having a peck. I'm really missing them, is anyone else experiencing similar, is there a problem?

No. I live in SW London and I think I have our entire contingent of squirrels living in my loft.

Pop round to collect yours whenever suits...

HankNPat · 20/02/2019 15:57

SW London also. Our resident pair have been scampering about!

LilyRose88 · 20/02/2019 16:04

Hundreds of them in my garden on the Sussex coast - or so it feels. They are very cute but they dig up my plants and bulbs.

Bloody loads here too-we call them tree rats. Feel free to pop over and collect as many as you like! We are rural East Mids.
Our poor birds don’t get a look in on the feeders which are “squirrel proof” apparently Hmm

LilyRose88 · 20/02/2019 16:27

Maybe some of the SW London squirrels have decided to migrate to the Sussex coast. I do seem to have more than usual …...

SpringForEver · 20/02/2019 16:49

Maybe someone is killing them for food.

Decormad38 · 20/02/2019 16:51

Too many in my garden.

RandomMess · 20/02/2019 16:55

It's been winter, they've been hibernating?

ChristineBaskets · 20/02/2019 17:05

UK squirrels don't hibernate.

I hadn't thought about it but I haven't seen a squirrel in our garden for a while- there used to be a lot of them. It wouldn't be such a bad thing if they were dying off somehow, and maybe the reds could make a comeback.

Lindy2 · 20/02/2019 17:06

I'm on the Surrey/SW London borders. I have loads of them in my garden as we live next to a churchyard with lots of trees.
They run up and down our fence so often even the cat is bored of chasing them.
It does seem strange though that yours have gone. I would be concerned that someone was trapping or poisoning them. Sad

dudsville · 20/02/2019 17:32

We have a lot. Today one was chasing another full on so I'm guessing mating season has started.

Sirzy · 20/02/2019 17:34

I’m in the north west and we have loads

RandomMess · 20/02/2019 17:35

Perhaps you have been invaded by Pine Martens!

Highly unlikely as they were reintroduced up north I think...

Chasingsquirrels · 20/02/2019 17:35

👋

Gershwin · 20/02/2019 17:47

They are all here. Come fetch them

WhatHaveIFound · 20/02/2019 17:50

I'm in Yorkshire. Normally we have several squirrels in the garden, digging up bulbs and trying to scale the bird feeder. This year - not a single one!

I'm not missing them as the small birds are flocking to the bird seed.

OddBoots · 20/02/2019 17:51

Loads here in Bedfordshire, all over my bird tables. Cute but cheeky wee beasties.

WorraLiberty · 20/02/2019 17:53

They've all moved here to East London

1000s of the little fuckers, invading lofts and assuming they have the right to enter my conservatory, just cos I've left the door open for a few mins Grin

toach · 20/02/2019 18:09

You've all nicked my squirrels, send them back now!!!!! Have you got extra foxes too?

Anyway, anyone missing their hedgehogs, don't worry I'm looking after them, I've provided lovely detached homes.

OP posts:
Gershwin · 20/02/2019 20:00

Oh yes please, I've not seen a hedgehog for decades here. I'll send you all the badgers in exchange

Amibeingnaive · 21/02/2019 12:18

Foxes are basically the local Mafia.

x2boys · 21/02/2019 12:35

There's a few on my estate Greater Manchester, or maybe it's the same one I keep seeing over and over again 😏

x2boys · 21/02/2019 12:37

I was watching Tenables the other day and one contestant was talking about her Pet Hedgehog apparently you can buy them who knew Shock

HankNPat · 21/02/2019 12:38

Having said that our resident pair have been scampering around, I've realised I haven't actually seen them for a couple of days. We put seed and nuts out for the birds and squirrels but the squirrels haven't been down for the last 2 days Confused

pullingmyhairout2 · 21/02/2019 12:42

My lurcher dog will tell you there is loads, my arm will tell you the same when being nearly yanked off each time she catches sight of them 😂
