Best shower gel/body wash to really clean yourself?

Preferably suitable for someone with allergies/sensitive skin

I never feel super clean after a shower

Have you tried proper soap? I like a poncy shower oil but for a really squeaky clean feeling I start with bar soap.

CrabbityRabbit · 18/02/2019 22:47

Proper soap all the way. I like the Yorkshire Soap Company but even cheap bars from the supermarket are better than gels. More environmentally friendly too as no plastic bottles.

User5trillion · 18/02/2019 22:49

Soap and a flannel, makes me feel clean. Shower gel used to make me slippery. Better for the environment too

Agreed re. bar soap. There are plenty of bar soaps around especially designed for allergies/sensitive skin, but do use real soap, not that bloody Dove stuff - it leaves the same not really clean feeling you get with shower gel. It's like a sticky film left on your skin?

dementedpixie · 18/02/2019 22:51

I also use soap and a shower puff thing

justasking111 · 18/02/2019 22:57

Goats milk soap here. Shower gel is just not something I have ever fancied, it is a detergent isnt it?

Dolly2007 · 18/02/2019 23:01

I like dermalogica body wash. Is a bar of soap better than Molton brown etc? Never tried I'm tempted now!

dinkydolphin · 18/02/2019 23:04

Proper soap. Not Dove. It isn't a soap apparently.

YouFellAsleep · 18/02/2019 23:15

After reading a previous thread, we've switched to 'proper soap' and will never switch back. We use Nivea (not Dove as that's a beauty bar apparently) even my teenage DS has said she much prefers it and feels loads cleaner Smile

honeylane · 18/02/2019 23:22

Bar soap is the only thing for the squeaky clean feeling

I have super sensitive skin with horrific eczema and the dove bar has never given me any problems

Mustbetimeforachange · 18/02/2019 23:25

Dove bars aren't soap so won't get you squeaky clean. We have gone back to proper soap too.

Pinkruler · 18/02/2019 23:25

Not really got any suggestions but why do you not feel clean after a shower?
I use a variety of shower gels and soap and always feel clean!

GlitterPixie · 18/02/2019 23:27

Bar soap - not Dove

honeylane · 18/02/2019 23:29

Dove bars are soap they contain detergent....

FissionChip5 · 18/02/2019 23:30

Rubbish, it may not be a soap but it still gets you squeaky clean.

PippilottaLongstocking · 18/02/2019 23:31

Dr Bronners liquid soap is brilliant

Skirmisher · 18/02/2019 23:32

I hate the squeaky feeling soap gives. I use it on my armpits but nowhere else.

SophieGiroux · 18/02/2019 23:33

Does soap not really dry your skin out?

Butterflycookie · 18/02/2019 23:33

Sanex- the hypo allergenic one. Foams up well and feels creamy. They have other ones like for sensitive skin as well.

ImNotKitten · 18/02/2019 23:34

What’s wrong with dove? I always use it, come out feeling clean and leaves a nice scent.

SingingSands · 18/02/2019 23:37

Ditch the gels and buy proper soap.

TK Maxx is my favourite. I buy the beautiful Italian soaps in lemon. Or Scottish Fine Soap Co.

dontticklethetoad · 18/02/2019 23:37

I switched to soap and it made me SMELL. I don't understand it. Firstly thought it was just the poncy soap I got from TK MAX, then I tried imperial leather and still smelt. Lastly tried Simple soap.
I'm gutted as I try to be eco friendly.

chemenger · 18/02/2019 23:40

Soap and detergent are different things. If Dove contains detergent it isn’t soap.

Grapetree · 18/02/2019 23:41

If you have sensitive or dry skin, it’s not usually recommended to use soap...

Some dermatologists think even those with healthy skin shouldn’t use traditional soap because it has a high ph and strips your skin barrier...

I recommend using an acid toner after washing your underarms
