British IS girl has had her baby

BrizzleMint · 17/02/2019 17:55

She's had her baby - a son.

Cabinet minister Jeremy Wright told BBC's Andrew Marr programme that the baby's nationality was "not straightforward".

The culture secretary, who was previously attorney general, said the first priority was establishing the health of her and her baby.

I disagree. Such recruitment relies on young people not being able to see shades of grey and less tolerant to points of view that dissent from their own. Kindness and a sense of justice are not solely the preserve of the young. But pretty pencil cases, stickers and badges with activist logos and one dimensional arguments are less effective on adults and more effective with children. I really think it is responsible for the current mentality of safe spaces etc that's so pervasive today. But I digress. I merely meant to point out that activists, advertisers, celebrity/popstar culture etc target the young specifically because they are less discriminating due to their reasoning ability still not being fully matured. It's a factor that has to be taken into consideration, and its partly why according to Gov.uk children under 17 in the uk are not tried in adult courts but youth courts and must have a parent or guardian present. She was a child.

Thymeout · 18/02/2019 00:36

Carrie Where did you read that her father radicalised her? I've never heard that before. I think she said that she wasn't particularly interested in religion until she heard about ISIS on the news. The parents have always maintained that they had had no connection with extremist groups.

KingHenrysCodpiece · 18/02/2019 00:47

Apparently it is the Father of one of the other girls that took his daughter to political rallies where radical views were expressed. Somehow its become confused with the father of this girl. At least this is what I heard one broadcaster say.

RamblinRosie · 18/02/2019 01:35

She left the UK on her sister’s passport, so she has no valid passport to get to a country with a British Consulate.

Unless someone can get a valid UK passport to her, she appears to be stuffed.

MadCatEnthusiast · 18/02/2019 02:24

Which is why she is asking for help.

I hope she gets tested for PTSD or something because being in a war zone (not matter what side) and losing two children can have a huge toll on anyone.

slipperywhensparticus · 18/02/2019 05:46

I've just read the interview with sky news she mentions the death of her son but not her daughter? What happened to her daughter?

Hollowvictory · 18/02/2019 06:12

Refugee camps are full of young mums and babies why is this awful you g woman getting so much air time? Babies are born in refugee camps and prisons every day. But suddenly everyone feels sorry for this one baby....???🤷‍♀️

KingHenrysCodpiece · 18/02/2019 07:08

Because a British subject gets priority Hollowvictory

Hollowvictory · 18/02/2019 07:15

Priority from whom? The justice system?

TokyoSushi · 18/02/2019 07:21

I think the current stance is fairly reasonable. Come back and we'll deal with you as we would anybody else, you might end up in prison, you might not, we'll have to investigate what you've done.

But we're not coming to get you, brainwashed or not you went there if your own accord, if you can get back here, fine, but if not...

KingHenrysCodpiece · 18/02/2019 07:37

Except she made a very public appeal. She may not be able to get out without some sort of intervention. She has a very young baby who is at high risk of possibly dying through malnutrition. How would that look for us if that happens?

She will need help.

I remember a case of a British National who was locked up in a prison in an Asian country some years ago. She somehow became pregnant (it was thought deliberately) There was a lot of hooha over whether she was our responsibility. In the end the government was forced to intervene and bring her home. Her child, once born woukd have been at considerable risk. Once it had made the news the governments hand was pretty much forced. I will be suprised if similar doesn't happen here. At the very least I feel some sort of diplomatic intervention will happen, even if its putting pressure to bear so her family can have access to the camp and help her or the rules are relaxed to allow her to leave the camp, as I cant see her getting to a British Consulate without help.

Hollowvictory · 18/02/2019 07:42

She's certainly an effective manipulator.

gamerwidow · 18/02/2019 08:09

She might have been groomed and she might just be pure evil it actually doesn’t matter either way.
I don’t know what the truth is neither do any of us. All we know is that she is a British citizen and she remains a British citizen with the right of return even if she has committed terrible crimes.
No one is saying bring her home and leave her free if she is guilty of terrorism but as a British citizen she is entitled to a trial and imprisonment in Britain for crimes against Britain.
People commit all sorts of horrific crimes in Britain and go to prison then are released to carry on their lives as normal after serving their sentence. That’s what needs to happen here. Even if she is a terrorist or a murderer.

Hollowvictory · 18/02/2019 08:14

Meh there are lots of innocent people with babies in refugee camps I'd rather help.

gamerwidow · 18/02/2019 08:18

Me too there are loads of more deserving people but that’s not the point we don’t get to pick and choose we have to follow the rule of law.

Hollowvictory · 18/02/2019 08:20

The rule of law is she's abroad and we are under no obligation to bring her back. She can rot.

KingHenrysCodpiece · 18/02/2019 08:21

HollowGrin

But that's the point, it's not about who you'd rather help as gamer said, she's British. She has a right to be tried in Britain for her crimes.

If you say leave her there when she has made a direct request to come home and undergo the judial process, then by extension we should rip up the law book and just go back to throwing people in prison without trial cause we 'think' they deserve to be there.

Hollowvictory · 18/02/2019 08:25

Are we obliged to bring her and any other individual who has been a British citizen anywhere in the world who doesn't like their circumstances home?

findingmyfeet12 · 18/02/2019 08:26

We should leave all our criminals abroad and replace them with more savoury characters who we feel are more deserving and can offer more to society. That's what people seem to be advocating.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/02/2019 08:27

I’m becoming more and more sceptical that she was pregnant and this is her baby- until I see dna proof I’m calling bs!

findingmyfeet12 · 18/02/2019 08:28

We're obliged to offer her the same consular assistance as any other British citizen would get when abroad.

Kintan · 18/02/2019 08:33

KingHenrysCodpiece she may have made a direct request to
come back to the UK, but that doesn’t mean the government has to risk soldiers or whoever’s lives to go through a war zone to get her. I’m sure there are lots of Brits (with or without children) overseas who are unable to get home for various reasons, but it is not the taxpayers via the government’s responsibility to facilitate that. If she gets here under her own steam, then she cannot be denied entry as I understand it. I cannot see how she or her family would be allowed to raise the child though.

Mewe · 18/02/2019 08:41

I have just read that her lawyer (who has never met her...) has just argued that she is “traumatised like a WW1 soldier”.

I can not even fathom how he can justify that statement. She hasn’t sacrificed her life to fight for our country like those poor men and women did 100 years ago. Shameful.

Hollowvictory · 18/02/2019 08:42

Very shameful. Disgusting.

JellycatElfie · 18/02/2019 08:45

Disgusting this whole situation makes me angry.
