(And how much are you paying for it?)

Just read the thread about holiday traditions and now thinking about holidays! We haven’t got anything booked yet but now with 3 kids and trying to stick to school holidays (this is also new for us) it’s slim pickings! Everything seems crazy money and / or awful!

So, inspire me, allow me to live vicariously through your fabulous holiday plans or give me some tips!!

Nothing too elaborate as saving for a trip to Japan for the olympics next year which will cripple me financially.

Off skiing shortly for a week in Italy. Booked a cheap hotel, antisocial flights, 2 4 1 lift passes and have all my own kit so no need to hire

Trip to the Lake District

Long weekend in cologne

Will get a trip to the highlands and south of France to see family in over summer

Another long weekend in Europe, maybe Croatia or Slovakia

VeryFoolishFay · 19/02/2019 00:04

A week in brittany in the summer holidays with DD and my niece of the same age. Small but pretty gite with a few others and a pool. Can't wait. Ferry plus gite is about £1300.

Longdistance · 19/02/2019 00:08

Going to Paris tomorrow back Friday.

Easter we’ll just go see mil at her seaside town.

In August we are going to Sri Lanka for over two weeks AI. Cost about £5k and our flights are short connecting flights, so no issue there. Direct would have been nearer £6k.

Chocolateandabook2019 · 23/02/2019 15:51

Update: We’ve now booked our holiday to Cambrils yay!!

We’re going for 10 days, half board in June, and we estimate with lunch and beers on top of accommodation, flights, and private taxi transfer, (oh yes), it’ll cost us about £2300. Quite cheap for us, as dh is working less hours now.

We have a week off in March so maybe a day out here and there.
That’s it up to now.
Counting the days....

Turquoisetamborine · 23/02/2019 16:13

We’ve been to a house in Northumberland over half term for a couple of nights.
We’ll be going to a log cabin with hot tub in August and also getting a travelodge in London for three nights over the summer.

In October we are going to a couple of different areas of Florida as my brother and his family live there. We managed to get the flights for the four of us from Heathrow for £1100. The hotels, theme parks tickets, airport hotel etc come to a total of £3300 so not that bad really considering that would be the price of a weeks all inclusive in Spain in the school holidays.

The London holiday will be about £400 with train and hotels.

WBWIFE · 23/02/2019 16:16

We're going to Bali with me, my husband, My dad and my step mum and my 18 month old daughter.

It's coming up at about £3400 for all of us for 2 weeks. £850 per adult for flights and accommodation which is s private villa with a house keeper!

Juanbablo · 23/02/2019 16:22

Fuerteventura in August. 2 adults, 3dcs, 10 days, all inclusive. £5,000. We will go camping a few weekends too.

PussInBin20 · 23/02/2019 16:44

We bought a small motor boat in October so we will be making the most of it and having lots of nights away around the South coast hopefully. It will be like camping on the water!

Plus a week in a cottage Isle of Wight (boating there) in May and 4 days Centerparcs in August.

Dowser · 23/02/2019 16:55

8 weeks in Tenerife spent over three holidays
Dorset and s Wales a couple of times to catch up with family and friends
In between whiles 4 days a week at our caravan near york
We might actually get to Ireland this year...it’ll probably cost the same as the 8 weeks in Tenerife and be 10-15 degrees colder too

Dowser · 23/02/2019 16:56

Wbwife..my friend set off for Bali today!

WBWIFE · 23/02/2019 16:57

@dowser ooooo how exciting it looks so stunning! We are going for our honeymoon but my dad and step mum 're coming along so we can have some trips out without dragging our 18 month old out with us as it'll bore her!

Aragog · 23/02/2019 17:00

Very fortunate year for us this year as we have a lot of holidays planned.
Me, dh and DD (she will be 17y in April) - we are very aware dd may not be coming on holidays with us for too much longer, I guess, so want to get some of the bigger ones planned and organised with her whilst she still does!

New Year/Jan - we had a week in Valencia with friends, and their teens

February half term - we've just had a couple of nights in Malaga

Easter holidays - Singapore for 10 nights, with 2 nights in Abu Dhabi.

May half term - we are flying to Cornwall for a week in Falmouth with PILs, BIL, SIL and nieces

Summer holidays - two weeks visiting Japan, staying in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka (not yet booked, but planned out)

October holidays - not sure where yet, probably a week in Europe somewhere

feltcarrot · 23/02/2019 17:08

A few days in Spain with friends, villa is basically free so just flights, then Vietnam in June with DH, a weekend with a large group of old friends end of August and possibly a city break in October.

ohtheholidays · 23/02/2019 18:09

Were going to Cornwall for 10 dys in Easter. That's costing us about £1,300.

Beginning of July were going away either to the Isle of Wight or Weymouth for 5 days. That will cost us about £600.

The end of August were going away(not sure where yet)for 5 days that will probably cost us about £400.

Were also hoping to go to Birmingham for a long weekend sometime in the year to visit family, that will probably cost us about £300.

GreyGardens88 · 23/02/2019 18:13

I am going to Berlin at easter for a few days. I have a week off end of June so thinking about my options. I'm on a bit of a budget and flights in general are quite expensive at that time. I've tied it down to France (Paris area), Sicily (around Catania) or Scotland (Highlands, flying into Inverness). I'm the most indecisive person ever

ForalltheSaints · 23/02/2019 18:18

A week in northern Scotland.
A visit to Paris to pay respects to the family members who lived there and died in WW2.
A few days in Rome.
Possibly a couple of weekends away.

TheyGotMyName · 23/02/2019 18:28

TheyGotMyName · 23/02/2019 18:39

@Applesaregreenandred where in north wales? Have you been before? I live there could give you some places to visit.

@Chocolateandabook2019 I stayed just down the road from cambrills and just up the road from salou i loved both!

MinesaPinot · 23/02/2019 18:46

Me and DH are off to Bath in April Friday to Sunday - really good deal booked through Travelzoo.

Week in Greece in June.

Med Cruise with P & O for 2 weeks in August.

wherearemychickens · 23/02/2019 18:54

I feel like this is a parallel world to the one I live in - haven't booked anything yet as I don't want to waste money on travel plans (flights) that then get complicated by Brexit. Also worried that we are both going to lose our jobs this year and will need the money.

I have got as far as sorting out a green card for my car insurance and 1949 & 1968 international driving licences, so if there is a no-deal brexit we can still drive in Europe.

goose1964 · 23/02/2019 18:58

Bolton, yes I know, but don't know when. Ddil is having a baby in April and they will be visiting us in May on the way to visit family in Devon. We will be staying at a pub(we hope) so I expect the holiday to cost around 1 including train and food.

Nottsangel2015 · 23/02/2019 19:09

There are 4 of us plus dsd ages 3, 12 and 13. We brought a tent last weekend so hoping to get lots of weekends away with the children camping if we have a summer like last year! Planning long weekend camping at Easter weather permitting! Then we have 2 weeks to algarve booked for beginning of August. Going with friends who have kindly paid for the villa so we only need to pay for our flights and food/spending money so that's saved us loads on a summer holiday! Then we are off to Lisbon in October half term to visit dh grandparents so looking forward to that although not a holiday as such.
We used to go AI for 2 weeks but not there is 5 of us to go most years it's becoming unaffordable! Hoping finances are better next year so we can afford an AI break to canaries but at least we have the tent to fall back on x

Applesaregreenandred · 23/02/2019 19:33

@TheyGotMyName we are going to Conwy. We went there last year but until we got our dog 2 years ago we had not holidayed in Wales for several years. Hopefully we will get some good weather - the scenery is beautiful but as we all know, the weather can be a bit of a let down!

Ianzar · 24/02/2019 10:26

tierraJ This may be a little selfish of me but I fervently hope that you and your sister will decide on going to Crete & Mykonos. I am going myself to Tenerife and with the opinions I could obtain from you regarding the Greek Islands I'd be able to make a much more educated choice next year when we'll be deciding on buying a cottage in Spain or in Greek Islands to retire to in five years. This'll grant us (finally) some life under the sunshine and save on the hotel rates as they rise every year in every new place we discover. My only concern with Greek Islands is them being an island, namely - if getting regular supplies and basic services would be a challenge or not. We were to Canary Islands before and I know for a fact that there were no hindrances in that regard over there Gin
