(And how much are you paying for it?)

Just read the thread about holiday traditions and now thinking about holidays! We haven’t got anything booked yet but now with 3 kids and trying to stick to school holidays (this is also new for us) it’s slim pickings! Everything seems crazy money and / or awful!

So, inspire me, allow me to live vicariously through your fabulous holiday plans or give me some tips!!

I live in China so all long haul trips are short haul for me and not so expensive. I have just got back from Australia, have a week in KL in April and will go to Japan and Korea in the summer and probably Vietnam for Xmas.
When we lived in Europe we went to the Netherlands quite often as kids go back to school middle of August and the last week in August/first week in September was really good value. We lived in Germany and Austria and drove everywhere which also kept costs down. Centre park type places were also much cheaper in Germany and the Netherlands than in the UK.
We took the kids to Slovenia a couple of times which was also pretty good value.

Our holidays are all bloody weddings this year.

So far we have 4 days in Cyprus and 3 days in Portugal. And a weekend in Ireland.

Chocolateandabook2019 · 17/02/2019 13:29

Nothing booked at the moment, but we are looking at Cambrils for ten days in June, with a day or two in Barcelona tagged on at the end, and days out here and there in the U.K.

I can’t wait to get it booked, then I have a goal.

PippaParty · 17/02/2019 13:47

Cambriles is lovely.

Hoping for a European break at Easter and again in the summer but haven't booked anything yet. Holding off because of Brexit. I'm not a great flier, the thought of flights being disrupted with hours in the airport is my idea of hell, especially if we were only going for a week. I'm going to wait and see how it pans out post 29th of March the make a decision.

Chocolateandabook2019 · 17/02/2019 13:49

And how much are you paying for it?

Not sure exactly how much it’ll cost yet. We need to book the time off work first, then get down to the nitty gritty.

I love booking holidays 🌞🌞😎😎

Chocolateandabook2019 · 17/02/2019 13:51

@PippaParty, thanks, that’s good to hear.

TinTinBanana · 17/02/2019 13:54

needsleepzzz · 17/02/2019 14:41

Mexico in April c£4k AI
Canada in September, not costed yet
Tenerife in Nov, £1700 by booking flights and hotel independently, if a package would be c£2200

Justanotheruser01 · 17/02/2019 14:42

We've done Madrid costing around £500 including spends and we are going for a long weekend in Dublin we're off to Mexico in the summer and hopefully a Christmas Market holiday in December probably a few other little bits.
Were not drinkers though can't remember our last big night out holidays are our expense we will probably have spent approx 4k on holidays between us by the end of 2019

IggyAce · 17/02/2019 14:43

We have a couple of days booked at a caravan in Northumberland for Easter, cost £60 and already have Alnwick castle tickets so just petrol and food to still cover.
We have a cottage booked in North Wales for August (mon-fri) cost just under £300 again have food and petrol to cover but have National trust membership so that’s a few days out covered and we enjoy lots of walks.
Currently looking at going to Harry Potter studios and London for October half term, not sure on costs as yet.

Niffler25 · 17/02/2019 14:44

DS and I are going to the Lake District for 5 days in July then Legoland for 3 days in August. Hoping to go camping on Arran or Skye with DP too!

CountFosco · 17/02/2019 14:49

Week self catering in Derbyshire in May
Camping at a Festival in July
Visiting family in Scotland in August
Airbnb in Italy in October (but not booking until we know what's happening with Brexit)

3 kids so we avoid hotels!

pumpkinpie01 · 17/02/2019 14:51

We are going AI for a week to Corfu in July , £1900 for 4 of us , a weekend at a haven site £120 plus spends in June and will probably have a long weekend in a rented house in wales with my parents and extended family in August

Muddysnowdrop · 17/02/2019 14:54

Pumpkin do you use a travel company? Do you mind me asking who? Spent over 3000 for ten days in Spain (for 4) last July and would love a warm holiday this year but don’t have another 3000....

BillyAndTheSillies · 17/02/2019 14:55

France for skiing next week. I've just found out I'm pregnant so will be spending the week in the swimming pool while DH and DS go skiing.

Apart from that, nothing else. DH wants to see how Brexit plays out before booking anywhere in Europe and anywhere warmer or more tropical that we had on our list is out because of zika.

We usually go away in November but DC2 due in October so that's out of the question at the moment.

stanski · 17/02/2019 15:00

We spend about 6k per year on holidays.
This year California in March, Shanghai in May, Scotland July, Bulgaria August, Spain (September) and Barbados (October), NY November and Bulgaria December.

That said two of these trips are visiting family and two are weddings abroad.
We may also need to reschedule Shanghai for next year instead (and lose flights) as seems we'll need to move house the same week, so too much going on.

Pascha · 17/02/2019 15:03

1 night away doing steam trains with ds2 while DH and Ds1 go to watch racing somewhere in June.
1 night at Chessington early July
4 nights Centerparcs in August.

Pascha · 17/02/2019 15:04

About £2k all together.

shecamefromgreece · 17/02/2019 15:04

We are going to Turkey in the May school holidays. 5 star AI with a water park, fairground, kids club in Antalya costing just under £6000 for the six of us (two adults and four kids) for a week.
It's a lot but it holidays always seem to be with four kids.
We are looking at going to Marbella in August in an air B and B but not booked yet. Rough cost is around £1500 for flights, £1500 accommodation and £2500 spending money.
We usually try and get away for a weekend in our own somewhere hot and a nice hotel where we feel pampered but not sure if it's going to happen this year.
The kids have also asked to go glamping for a weekend in the summer so will see if I can find a reasonably priced break but they all seem so expensive.

Hoppinggreen · 17/02/2019 15:05

Currently in Spain
Easter weekend Holiday cottage prob Whitby area with our friends and dogs ( theirs and ours)
May Spain or Germany
July Greece
End August Spain
October Spain again
December Austria or Germany or long haul if we are feeling flush
We own a property in Spain and DH is German

Impicciona · 17/02/2019 15:23

We're on the France Switzerland border so can drive a lot of places and DH works for an NGO so gets 40 days+ of holidays

Dublin for a long weekend in March
Lake Garda for a long weekend in April
Sicily for 5 days in May (we'll fly there!)
Hyères (South of France) for 5 days in June
Sestri Levante (Italy) for 8 days in July

There will be more we just haven't booked anything else yet.

otterturk · 17/02/2019 15:28
