I got a new job!!! A promotion, better pay and much better company to work for, more development opportunities, great team etc

We are going to London next week anyway so I am looking for some restaurant recommendations!

We don't like fancy food small portions Michelin etc

So eh we're with really tasty food, nice romantic environment and decent cocktails. And amazing puddings!!

Never been but romance is clos Maggiore... covent garden....

Hakkassn

Most of the ‘romantic’ places do fancy food so it’s quite a hard one. Is is small portions you don’t like or is it food more complex in flavour and presentation? Because they’re not the same and it’s not clear above if it’s a list of all the things you don’t like or if you’re treating it all as one and the same.

Have you thought about Rules? It wouldn’t be my idea of romance though.

BabloHoney · 15/02/2019 19:54

Congrats!! Maggie Jones’ in Kensington.. cozy, romantic, excellent food 😊

DonaldTwain · 15/02/2019 19:57

Cora pearl in Covent Garden is nice

LostInShoebiz · 15/02/2019 20:03

Kitty Fisher in Shepherd Market (though you may be made to feel like you should justify your own existence let alone why you would inflict yourself on their establishment).

DonnaDarko · 15/02/2019 20:04

Hawksmoor. Any of them. Their cocktails are amazing.

Congratulations!

HeyMicky · 15/02/2019 20:07

Kerridge's Bar and Grill. Great cocktails

Sort of both. I begrudge paying a fortune when I'll need to stop by McDonald's on the way home and also not overly keen on the idea of the complex food... Especially if I can't work out what it actually is 😂

Cora pearl looks lovely

CampariSpritz · 15/02/2019 20:16

Scott’s. Always a real treat. Predominantly seafood (but not exclusively), glamorous & fun. Congratulations & wherever you go, I hope you have a wonderful time.

Seconding Hawksmoor! Lovely atmosphere (each one is slightly different but all lovely), and the cocktails and puddings are great at all of them! Some are more just steak/meat where as others are fishier so have a look at the menus and locations to see which suits you best.

Magstermay · 15/02/2019 20:24

We loved Hawksmoor too, especially if you like steak! It was not a cheap night though 😂

prisscalledwanda · 15/02/2019 20:24

Clos maggiore is great as is hawksmoor

You could also try Bob Bob Ricard or the Wolseley (both quite glam) or St John or the Harwood Arms in Fulham (more casual), all of which are fun. If you like Indian food, maybe look Indian Accent which I love!

Have fun and congrats

NecessaryOnABicycle · 15/02/2019 20:26

Also - I know it sounds like a chain the way a talk about it (and I suppose it technically is) but each restaurant is run completely individually and has its own feel, and they are all lovely!

Chewbecca · 15/02/2019 20:26

The Ivy? The main one or one of the brasseries.

We like De Hesa in SoHo for tapas type food, but far more interesting than the usual tapas you get.

Congratulations by the way.

wyoudo · 15/02/2019 20:29

I love a Hide in green park!

wyoudo · 15/02/2019 20:29

Not a Hide,just Hide ;)

SteveMcqueensJeans · 15/02/2019 20:34

Randall and Aubin In Brewer St Soho. Great food, lovely atmosphere without being up its arse

Rollergirl11 · 15/02/2019 20:48

Social Eating House is good (Poland St in Soho), one of Jason Atherton’s. If you want Asian then you can’t beat Roka. There are a few dotted around in central London. The one on Charlotte St is my fave. Excellent cocktails too.

DonaldTwain · 15/02/2019 20:54

Terroirs nearing Charing x nick is really nice. Wines are organic, less of a hangover supposedly 🤔

FreeButtonBee · 15/02/2019 21:00

Harwood arms is super food in pub environment. Totally lovely

Little social is the Jason atherton bistro style restaurant. The tart Tatum to share is divine.

Medlar in Chelsea and chez Bruce in Wandsworth or trinity in Clapham are local to me and much loved for low key high reward fab food.

MissTulipan · 15/02/2019 21:21

Le Caprice near the Ritz, love it there. Lovely atmosphere and food is great.

Mamia15 · 15/02/2019 21:40

Brassiere Zedel - gorgeous Art Deco building close to SoHo, excellent french food at reasonable prices. No tiny portions either.

Hazlenutpie · 15/02/2019 21:43

We went to Le Gavroche and it was magnificent. We were so full I had to take the complimentary homemade chocolates home.

It’s a myth that you don’t get enough to eat in a Michelin starred restaurant.
