‘Where you are from based on your dialect’ quiz in the New York Times

Really interesting little quiz.
Doesn’t ask for any details so no data harvesting.

It got me down to about 15 miles from where I grew up.

Meant to add that my dad is from Bradford so I have a few Yorkshire words like ginnel in my vocab.

That is amazingly accurate. Despite living in England for 35 years it pinpointed the exact region of Scotland I’m from!

Try on a different browser. The quiz doesn't like explorer but it works on Chrome.

It got my result exactly right!

This got mine as 11 miles from where I grew up. And that’s despite living in an entirely different part of the country for the last 30 years Grin

It placed me in 2 cities. One is 300 miles away from where I grew up and the other 450... Confused

Mine gave me a very large potential area. Probably not surprising since I was brought up in the midlands but with parents from essex and north london.

wrong side of the Pennines for me! But then unless it asked very specific questions about dialect they'd not guess it.

Nope. Although I think it gets confused because although people round my manor would say 'bare' and 'chav', I wouldn't.
