... I'm going to tell you about all the secret and amazing foods you just (most likely) ignore when you wander down the aisles....

Alibi Max
Location: world food, Polish section
What is it? A polish version of Lion, but bigger and nicer and cheaper. 50p normally. Currently 3 for £1 at Tesco.

Wedel - Jaffa cakes
Location: polish food
What are they? The only Jaffa cakes you will ever eat ever again. Also come in cherry flavour and raspberry.

Chilli and Lemon grills
Location: world foods, asian food section
What are they? Then is delicious potato snack you'll ever have. Lemony and spicy and delicious little crisps

quorn southern fried nuggets
Where? Freezers vegetarian section

What are they? A Good, spicy, cheap (especially as they're £1 a bag right now)
L alternative to chicken nuggets.

frozen garlic/ginger cubes
Where? Freezer, Asian section
What are they? About 30 cubes if crushed garlic, ginger (or both mixed together) around £1-£1.50. saves peeling and chopping fresh, and way cheaper than any 'lazy garlic'

@Justagirlwholovesaboy

"And you sound like a salesperson, a bad one at that"

Thank you for your kind words. Smile

Daisy they're spicy-ish, offset by the lemon. They're often 50p for a large bag. They're by cofresh.

Worth a try :)

Auntie the frozen garlic looks like this, by Taj. (Currently 85p at ASDA) but Morrisons and Tesco do them. Look near the Indian selection with the frozen parathas and such (which are also good!)

I'm a huge fan of those chilli and lemon crisps, 70p in my Sainsbury which is a bargain compared to their other crisps. Tofu seems to vary in price according to where it sits in the supermarket, mine has at least 3 locations.

Aaaahfuck · 15/02/2019 08:11

Yep on the chilli and lemon grills and quorn! I'm a vegetarian so don't know what mc Donald's are like but these hit the spot for me!

Aaaahfuck · 15/02/2019 08:14

@00100001 if you're a sales person you're flogging a bloody random selection of stuff! Perhaps your onto something? A new approach to influencing perhaps?!

LifeCasting · 15/02/2019 08:15

Yes!!! I get all my tinned tomatoes & chick peas etc there as 3 for £1 but better quality than the economy ones. We also love Polish kabanos sausages, Jamaican drinks, popcorn and dried beans, the chilli Sricha (?) sauce and the big bags of West End pistachio nuts.

My parents were buying the same brands in Asian supermarkets in the 1980s but harder to get where I am!

We also like mozzarella sticks for £1 from the freezer aisle in Asda...

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 15/02/2019 08:19

coconut milk usually cheaper in the world foods section than elsewhere also.

00100001 · 15/02/2019 08:31

@Aaaahfuck

Yes I'm actually a major shareholder in all those brands and thought I could drive sales up by posting in MN.... I got caught out. The other board members will be ever so disappointed in me....

Yes the coconut milk much cheaper Smile

DerelictWreck · 15/02/2019 08:37

@AuntieOxident I think every big supermarket does the frozen ginger, garlic, chilli etc. Certainly Sainsbury's, morrisons, Tesco and Waitrose round here so

DerelictWreck · 15/02/2019 08:37

*do, not so

Oblomov19 · 15/02/2019 08:40

Op are these a variety of different supermarkets that you see these bargains? Our Sainsbury's has a poor world aisle.

00100001 · 15/02/2019 08:44

I shop mostly at Tesco.
But Asda definitely has them, and Morrisons will have some.

Our Sainsburys has a biggish Polish section - I occasionally buy some of their chocolates and, by god, they're good! I keep intending to try some other things as well - this thread has given me the kick up the arse to do it - will give the mayonnaise a try (as suggested by Bluesheep).

AuntieOxident · 15/02/2019 09:00

00100001 and Derelict you learn something every day! I knew about how good the world food sections in the aisles are but not about the Indian section in the frozen goods!
And yes, frozen parathas (buy mine from an Asian cash and carry) are reeeaally good. 😋.

CurlsandCurves · 15/02/2019 09:03

I may or may not have a small addiction to those chilli and lemon grills...

They used to make chilli spirals but they seem to have been discontinued, can’t get them anywhere. Probably a good thing as they were amaaaaazing.

WatcherOfTheNight · 15/02/2019 09:04

Asda have a good selection,I use the app & have it delivered .The onion parathas are gorgeous (frozen)as are the bags of lamb kofta.

We also get the ketchup from the polish section,it is richer & more flavour than others we've tried, they do a regular & a spicy .

Gooseygoosey12345 · 15/02/2019 09:06

KOKA noodles from the world food section (think Polish but could be wrong). Much better than other instant noodles and 37p (ish if I remember correctly)

EssentialHummus · 15/02/2019 09:07

Chilli and Lemon grills

Yes! Love them. And may I humbly proffer masala flavour instant noodles, 30p a pack.

PoppingBubbles · 15/02/2019 09:08

Ah, what a great thread.
I agree on the Quorn nuggets. Am going to look for the others. Does Aldi do any of these?

EssentialHummus · 15/02/2019 09:08

Oh, and KTC chopped toms are the best (Indian aisle).
